Heres what a Garage owner told me!? (2.0 TDI)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

On the hunt for a 1.9tdi superb elegance, proving hard to find in Ireland.

i recently rang a garage, looking to see if the car they had advertised was a 1.9tdi or 2.0tdi. It was the 2 litre one, when i mentioned that it wasnt the car that i was looking for, the chap on the phone started off on a rant saying basically the following:

the 2.0tdi engine is not a VW engine, its a skoda engine , Or really a skoda modified VW engine.

Its a single cam as opposed to a twin cam (cited as being one of the differences between the two)

A lot of people mix up the VW 2.0tdi with the skoda 2,0 tdi

i should check with skoda on this and they will confirm that its a different engine

Now ive done a lot of research on Superbs Mk 1, and it all points to stay away from the 2.0 TDI.

Is the chap in the garage misinformed or talking crap?

Confused!

If he rants at customers like that, walk away...

He's basically trying to get rid of a car that nobody will want if they do their research.

It's the same engine used across the whole VAG range. Think about it... why would skoda re-invent the wheel if they don't have to.

Is he trying to say that it's a PD engine which is basically the 1.9 with bigger cylinders, different head and turbo etc and different to the 2.0 CR?

Phil

He's talking crap. The 2.0 16v TDi with the issues was fitted to many VAG cars.

There is a reason PD140s are so easy to find for sale! I had to go on a mission to find a PD130 in the spec I wanted but it's nice to safe in the knowledge the engine should be pretty bombproof.

If you ask him to check the V5 it's a 1.9tdi if it says 1896cc.

Im not sure what he was trying to say, i wouldnt be well up on engines, my knowledge comes from research and this site! (Thanks guys).

The main crux of his point was that it was a common misconception that the engine in the 2.0 Superb is not the same engine that is in the VW 2.0 and the Audi 2.0 and that skoda will confirm this. He recons he has sold 300+ 2.0 TDIs with no problems!!!!

Thanks Lads!

its definitely a 1968cc!

He's full of it, that's for sure.

its definitely a 1968cc!

And definitely exactly the same as all the other VAG 2.0 engines!

Ah well... walk away! And wait to find the car you want with a delear who doesn't bull crap you.

Phil

He's talking crap.

When I was looking for a 1.9tdi elegance, there were so few! I travelled 650 miles round to get mine.

I love it, and the engine is one of the best I've ever had.

The 2.0 PD140 is NOT the same in all models, however the only bit you need to concern yourself with is the 2.0 PD140 fitted to the MKI Superb is a DOG!!!

(the 2.0 PD140 fitted to the Octavia, Golf etc for example is fine ... as it is different to the Superb engine)

You need the engine code to be sure of what you have.

One word........DON'T

Certainly don't buy it in the MK1 superb, the PD140 engine in the Superb MK1 is well renowned for destroying its oil pump drive and then itself.

However the 2.0 PD140 engine in the MK1 Superb, shares nothing in common with the 2.0 PD140 used in the Octavia and Superb MK2 which is a totally different version of the engine sharing only the CC capacity and the PD injection name, the rest is not the same. So in this respect he tells the truth as there are many variants of the 2.0 TDi engine.

I travelled all the way to Milton Keynes from Sheffield for my 1.9TDI Comfort 130bhp! ;)

Thanks Guys,

Its a pity all the 2.0 are duds!!! Their more available at the minute (for a good reason i guess)

The engine code on this car in particular is BSS 003063

Anyone info on it?

Hold On Hold On Hold On!!

Dont waste anymore of your time, seemingly the BSS engine code is the worst (research on this site)

Ah Well, Thanks for all your help!
