Alarm siren (and me) going spare

Featured Replies

My siren started misbehaving at odd times of the day/night about 1 year ago.

I took the car back to the garage, who "reduced the sensitivity". It started again and they reduced it further. After a few months it chipped in again at random and I went ballistic. This time, they completely replaced the siren.

Just recently, it has started again It's been booked in for rectification and if that doesn't work....

My neighbours (notably the furiously-glaring early-retirement path-sweeper next door) seem to be deeply disturbed and think that my Octy 2 vRS is a sack of ****.

Totally ungood: it's the only decent set of wheels on street view hereabouts and would chew the balls off any of their sad jalopies anytime.

I wonder whether anyone else has had this problem or it's a one-off; deep within the onboard electronics?

Do not have a fix but a diagnostic step would be to push the 'Lock Car' button on the remote twice when parking up for the night - the second push turns off the internal sensors. If the alarm still goes off you know it not the internal sensors but either the alarm box or other electronic fault.

Following on from Octavia5's suggestion, it could be the connection to the interior sensors getting dirty/corroding slightly, which seems to be fairly common and is straight-forward to sort. MikeHolroyd put up a really good guide a few months ago, will see if I can find it...

...here.

Maybe someone is trying to steal your car then runs off when the alarm sounds.

Oh, does it ?? I never knew that. I've been pressing the button on the pillar to my right for turning off the interior sensor.

Yup, you can switch em off using either method, both do the same thing.

Sensible suggestions so far, that's what I'd do as well. Problem with these intermittent issues is knowing whether that's the cause, or it's just the car deciding not to do it that night! It's what makes alarm related issues one of the most infuriating...

Have they also ran a diagnostic scan to see if any faults have been recorded. As said, the other culprit would be the interior sensors. They're fitted behind the sunglasses holder and the unit comes out in one piece. From there it would be easy to check that unit and connections, plus whether there's any dust/debris/cobwebs up there, that might be causing a problem.

They kept her in for a week or so while I was away.

Diagnosis?

Software update required...

Sounds odd, but I'm not complaining until the bugger starts screaming again.

Connect VCDS and do a full system scan, the alarm system stores details of the most recent activations so you can see what triggered it.

Also be careful about using the 2 button press trick. AFAIK that also disables the deadlocks.

I had my alarm going for ages and seemingly very randomly. To the point where it would go off while I was driving and stay on for 10 mins.

On one journey on the motorway all was well until suddenly the alarm went off. After stopping and thinking to open the bonnet it stopped. Dropped it back down again and it stayed off. Then thinking back it would start having issues going off after every time I'd checked fluid levels or had the car serviced. Came to the conclusion it must be a sensor on the bonnet.

As Posted earlier

get the car scanned for faults

Also look to see what the trigger was

I had a similar issue (and the glares too), booked into dealer and they diagnosed a software issue. Two updates later and it now behaves itself, although I still jump if I hear a similar noise.

I need to look at mine also as the lights flash but no siren sounds.

The siren will sound if your battery is low. To the above if the lights flash and no siren sounding the siren will is spent . On the phone i replaced mine myself I did a guide to replaced
