What other makes of cars do you own other than Skoda and why?

Featured Replies

We have three cars in our household, one of them a Skoda. All were bought for a specific purpose. How about your car choice?

The Polo - just because I liked that shape at the time and it was a fun little car. It was also the best spec'd car of that type, although not the fastest. Also at the time I went on the VAG good reliably theory too which the Polo has sort of lived up too.

The 330d - it was replacing my RX-8 and I wanted something RWD and derv. Only other real choices I had were a Merc, but I didn't like the interior, or a 3/5 series. 5 was too big, so it was going to be a 3. Found out the 330 was insurable, so opted for that over the 320d instead and couldn't be happier.

Parents have a Focus - in hindsight, no-one's sure why we've got it, but at the time was the best fit for all 4 of us (but we rarely all go anywhere in the same car now, so a bit wasted!)

Sister has a Corsa C - her first car, got-it-cheap-off-a-friend type of situation.

Both brothers own Ford. Older brother drives a 54 plate Focus which replaced his N reg Ford Escort and other brother drives a 58 plate Fiesta that replaced his 52 plate fiesta.

I'm the only car driver in my current household.

List of cars:

Mine:

E-reg Ford Escort,

L-reg Ford Escort,

02 plate Peugeot 206,

54 plate Skoda Fabia vRS,

Middle brother:

E or F-reg Vauxhall Astra,

M-reg (i think) Vauxhall Corsa,

52 plate Ford Fiesta,

58 plate Ford Fiesta,

Older brother:

A-reg Austin Maestro,

K-reg Ford Sierra.

N-reg Ford Escort,

54 plate Ford Focus.

I got the my octy vrs to replace my volvo s40 diesel as i wanted something similar size with abit more go, plus ive always been abit differant and skoda fitted that aswell.

Parents have a volvo V50 D5, that replace a v70 d5 as my mum wanted something smaller but still had to have room for dog,

Sister has a mk6 fiesta, it replaced her first cat which was a ford ka, seemed a natural progession as the ka had been very reliable, unfortunatly the fiesta hasnt been but that was more down to the muppets that work at ford than the car itself

Errr I have a small issue of hording I have to admit....

In fairness the C1 my missus also drives so its sorta both of ours rather than just mine... but here goes..

The Skoda I bought two weeks ago...

1975 Reliant Scimitar GTE - Used for fun and car shows 0-60 8.5 seconds

1987 Reliant Scimitar SS1 Ti - as above 0-60 5.5 seconds

1991 Reliant Scimitar Sabre Ti - used for racing 0-69 3.8 seconds

1989 Range Rover V8 - used for taking rubbish to the tip ect 0-60 forever

1985 Porsche 928 S3 - Fun car but brought to make money on after some tidying up 0-60 6 seconds

2001 Cirtoen Saxo VTR - used for autotests ( for sale though :( ) 0-60 never tried

2004 Daewoo Matiz - for the kids (now for sale due to them at uni) 0-60 never

2011 Skoda Superb V6 - would have gone for the diesel, but the dealer had this sitting in there with no miles on for less money than a diesel and without awaiting time 0-60 5.5 seconds with VW R36 upgrades

Some people say we have too many cars. I don't see it... :D

Beside's the partners Fabia , we (I) have a VW Sharan thingy. 1.8T version, which we recently had to swap for my Subaru legacy GTB :-(

However, it has turned out to be rather fun embarrasing the local boy racers with it, so I can feel some tuning mods coming on lol

I don't own any other cars other than my Fabia, but we do have 3 cars in our household

2004 Black Fabia vRS (mine)

2003 (53) Silver Fabia Comfort 1.9TDI (mums)

1996 (N) Subaru Impreza 2.0 Turbo (dads)

I guess a 1992 Tamiya Madcap RC buggy doesn't count.

My dad in 1998 was looking for a replacement family car to replace his MG Maestro. He wanted a hatchback, but was offered the Subaru at a good price so bought it. Mother wanted a small 5 door hatchback with good boot space, so bought the Fabia. I was simular.

Soon to be a non skoda household :(

Not that you lot will be getting rid of me anytime soon. :p

There's the Kangoo van for work. Bought for £700

Cheap business tool, small diesel engine, cheap to run.

The Fiat, bought to replace our Fabia sdi after it got tired and tatty.

Needed something newer, less mileage, more toys, and most importantly

FUN!

The vRS, stripped of all the goodies I've fitted over the years

It's about to be put up for sale. To be replaced with an Audi all going to plan.

Other cars are my Wife's '97 Golf Mk3 TDI and Son's '93 Mk3 Polo Coupe.

We were looking for a Mk4 Golf but didn't find a nice enough one when this Mk3 popped up. Very comfortable, amazing mpg, 150k miles and still uses no water or oil. Peanuts to run. Gets a new patch of metal for its birthday (MOT) each year and is showing every sign of out-living me!

The Polo's Dan's first car - 1043cc, 4 speed, wind up windows, quite cute and a good starter car to work on, but just failed it's MOT, putting its future in the balance.

Gaz

The only non Skoda I have is a Nissan. 2011 spec GT-R in a subtle colour. (as per the link in my sig)

I have it because it's *$%"&*%"* fast !!! :D

On the Skoda front we have have a pair of Yeti because are very good all round practical cars.

And a Citigo that hopefully next year will also be *$%"&*%"* fast !!!

Me - Mazda 3 1.6d TS2 - because it was so much cheaper than another octavia when I changed - like £30/month over 3 years. Also tempted by teh fact that the dealership is only 3 miles away rather that the 30 to Skoda.

SWIMBO - Honda CRV - Because she needs a high car with big doors to get her infirm mother in.

Son has a Civic Type R - ' cause it goes like stink!!

Work - what ever Arnold Clark deliver, latest was an Astra 1.6 SRI (If I am doing more than 100 miles or so work supply a hire car, otherwise use my own)

To supplement the VRS estate, we have a VW Fox, three cylinder 1.2. Ace little car, cheap to run and insure, with loads of room. Accommodates 4 adults better than my old mk1 octavia. Group 1 insurance so my younger son can drive it.

Elder son owns 2001 Polo estate, now with 117,000 miles. Sweet as a nut.

Find it difficult to buy anything other than Skoda or VW.

Parents have a Swift because they, or rather my mother wanted something blue. Handles really well engine revs really well too. Dad does want a Roomster but I'm trying to talk him into a Yeti, maybe with DSG since they aren't getting any younger. Brother has a Swift Sport and that's fantastic. It's only faults are economy and not having a 6th. It really needs one which the new Sport does have.

Mazda mx5 2008

BMW k1200r motorbike . 0 to 100mph 5.5 seconds!

No Skoda at the moment(awaiting a mate in the dealers finding me a bargain) so at the mo, a Citroen van, seat Leon FR Tdi, and my toy, a Honda S2000.

Ford Ka diesel titanium.

Hmmm... only one Skoda left, my newly-acquired Fabia vRS.

Dad- Civic. Mum- Civic. Me- Blimmabubbadoo. Until last year, about this time, we had three Civics that were the same shape...

The wife has a Mazda 626 2.0 auto bought for her to learn in as she won't drive mine. 252,000km and going strong. Had it 18 months now :)

Fiesta 1.6 TDCi - wanted something that was very cheap to run on a daily AND annual basis and that was easily modded in three key areas - must respond well to a remap with good increases in torque (useful for the 'real world' commute I do daily), affordable way to enhance the handling and brakes. At 6,000 miles i had it remapped to 204lb/ft torque, eibach and poly bushed the suspension components and fitted Focus ST 300mm brakes, steel braided lines and Mintex M1144 pads. Goes amazingly well for it is and surprises many more powerful cars. 52mpg all down around town, 70+ mpg on a long run, £30 road tax and cheap servicing and parts which I do myself now it's out of warranty. More than anything though, I just think it's FUN to drive. :-)

Interesting to see how many Briskodians no longer drive Skoda - Fact that we hang around just shows what a good forum this is.

Only 2 cars in my household... my pride and joy,'05 Fabia vRS and the better half's '05 Honda Civic 1.6 SE Vtec....

Nothing worse than driving my car then getting into hers...... takes forever and a day to 60, drops to its knees in the twisties and is a responsive as a slug .....doesn't get used much by either as a result.... only 22k on the clock and only gone up by 3k in the last 2 years!!

My other half drives a '06 BMW 120d. It has 120000 miles on the clock and still going strong! Only ever needed (variable) servicing, tyres and brake pads/fluids.

Bullet proof, but I still don't like it - very cramped inside and fugly as hell (new shape is even uglier in my opinion particularly the non M sport ones).

...and the better half's...

 ;)
