vRS Estate - Lowering Springs Fitted

Featured Replies

Well I've just had my vRS Estate lowered using the official lowering springs.

Whats it like:

It's a far better ride! A lot less roll, way more composed on the road and feels like my Octy vRS (2) did on the motorway. It's not more uncomfortable either, almost like these are the springs it should have come with and was deisgned for.

How much:

£180 for the springs and I paid £100 for fitting at a local garage. I'm the 2nd person to have theirs done there and it hasn't needed re-alingment. I also had a £50 voucher for Skoda so £230 all in for me! Skoda Dealer wanted £580 all in!!!!!

Warranty Concerns

I have an official email from Skoda UK stating that if fit correctly it will not affect the original 3 year warranty at all.

Difference In Springs:

Take a look at this pic of both springs! The originals are, quite frankly, shockingly bad in comparison. Even though it's lower there's an extra 'coil' on the Eibachs!

Looking good

Looks good.

from what i understand about springs (which can be written on the back of a postage stamp) i would imagine that they may even be a little softer over the originals as they have an additional coil in them but stiffer as they are constructed from a thicker diameter steel.

Sorry if i have got this wrong and please correct me if have.

Had mine done back in August...best thing I ever did. Enjoy!

What I think you mean is that these springs are "progessive",i.e. perhaps softer than standard for, say, the first inch of travel and so giving good ride comfort over bumps, but thereafter stiffening up so as to give less body roll and more planted cornering feel.

Anyway, the case to fit them seems compelling.

Looking good. I did hear that the estate has slightly different springs? Didn't someone once show 2 part codes, one for hatch and one for estate? Really want to do this

Yes, Estate has different part codes to the hatch.

Word of warning though, it took 7 working days to arrive which is fairly normal. Don't book it in to get done expecting it when they say! Like i did.

Looking soooo much better. Really need to get mine done!

Just.... Wow!

It's certainly more 'abrupt' over speed bumps now! Not in a bad way but it helps. No Clearence issues though.

I am still seriously considering this - the wheel arch gap on the standard car really doesn't do it any favours in the looks department. I imagine being that bit lower AND stiffer (I assume it is) makes it more stable at high speed? Doing a lot of trips to Germany with some Autobahn work... :giggle:

I have the H&Rs (40mm drop) but I'd guess that's the case with Eibachs as well. It does feel so much better above 100 mph on the highway. More stiff and less scary. I hadn't dared reaching max speed on stock suspension even on the best road conditions, it just felt as it was about to take-off after a certain point so I had left it be. Now I've almost hit vmax in 1-2 occassions without realising I was there. Certainly the way to go.

PS. Don't forget to install a rear ARB as well If you start with handling mods. Springs are great but when it comes to bodyroll I think the bar is what mostly cures it in the vRS. After these two upgrades, I enjoy the car way more often and I feel much more safety when doing so.

I'm not after a major increase in handling - I do a bit of town centre work as well as a lot of motorway miles but the poor thing does look like its on stilts! Would just like it to feel less twitchy at Autobahn speeds. 130mph was very "brown trouser" time!

I remember driving VWSharan 1.9TDi there doing 130mph-white knuckles time and the a quick services pit stop to clean myself lol.

In 5series (520d) 140mph was simply boring, no difference to 70mph, just have to be watchfully for dudes doing 170mph lol

The eibachs on my Hatch were 25mm drop , they are much stiffer than stock and a little crashy over bumps but the tradeoff in improved handling and less body roll is worth it imo , the car feels more stable and better planted even on the motorway

Makes a big difference on motorway.

Feels more like my octy vrs did now.

How much is the arb?

The Whiteline rear arb is about £150

Did you buy them directly from Skoda? Also did where did you get the email from Skoda from? I would definitely need to get one of those.

You can get them from Skoda or others,e.g. Awesome.

I wouldn't worry about the warranty,as long as you get the same Eibach 20mm ones that Skoda supply.

Given that you've just fitted a Skoda approved part,I can't see how your warranty could be affected.

I bought them from Skoda Dealer. They were sent direct from supplier, not Skoda, which is why it took a week. Box it came in was normal Eibach one.

Do you need to get new shocks with the Eibachs? Supposedly, they were OK to use with the standard shocks on the Ford Focus I had, but general consensus amongst the Ford Australia community is that the Eibachs will wear out the shocks after about 18 months.

Decent gas shocks are not that expensive but bythen you are into coillies realms costs wise...

I had eibach springs on my Evo for three years without issue , cant understand why a spring which allows less travel would wear the damper quicker , logically the opposite should be true

It doesn't affect the Skoda Warranty so I can't see them selling them if it had issues. It's a relatively minor drop.
