Off to Brussels

Featured Replies

Heading off to Brussels in the morning so ive just been out to change my headlights for driving in Europe. Was dreading this as last time I went I took my Vrs with xenons. A quick press of a few buttons on the maxidot and hey presto. Looking at posts on here on how to change my standard headlights and it looked pretty daunting. Still 5 mins and they're done. What a simple idea. Remove the rubber cover. Reach to the offside of the headlight and flick a lever and put the rubber cover back. Brilliant.

Although having covered 2500 mikes in 6 weeks this will be my first long trip in my Greenline. Really looking forward to it and will be intetested to see what I will achieve economy wise.

Why do you need to do anything to your headlights ? :bandit:

Think about it a little Skoda-man :giggle:

My headlights point to the wrong side of the road what with the rest of Europe driving on the wrong side!!!!

Yes I know that but is there a law that if you go to another country in europe, just visiting, you need to adjust the lights ?

I think I may have caused some confusion here. I've said "change" when I should have put "adjust". I've adjusted them with the lever inside the housing so they don't dazzle oncoming European traffic.

Thought it was going to be tricky with people stating they've had to use bent wire to move the lever. I managed easily with my hand.

Yes, there is - you can't dazzle other car drovers because you've decided to visit old continent  . That's why you are supposed to either adjust or make "dazzle free" by sticking some stickers to your headlamps.

BTW - so much easier with xenons, everything done through maxidot only :giggle:

Is it possible to change them over for left hand rather then just flattening from the maxi dot. That would save some cash when the tuv exam looms on the horizon

The French Police do check if the headlights have deflectors or have been adjusted. I was in a UK car where they stopped us and among other things they did check the headlights.

No, only flat beam. if you want them set fully the otherway you have to replace the light units and then code the car for driving on the right.

Also whilst set via the maxidot, the tourist mode disables AFS and you get a warning each time you start the car as a reminder its been set.
