whats the longest trip your felly has done?

Featured Replies

Just in from a looong day in my felly and wondered who has done the longest trip in a felly in one day? My day started by leaving ludlow to go the swindon for a motorcycle shop sale, then bristol to collect some fabia brake calipers for my rally car I'm not building, followed by a nice run to wakefield to collect an engine for said car, a nice easy 475 miles all in today mostly at maybe slightly more than most of the other motorway traffic was doing too and around £70 in petrol (1.6 motor),

poor thing has been sat for 2 months without the door being opened on it then it gets a belly full of fuel and the tyres pumped up last night lol.

anyone else got any decent roadtrips in their felly?

My longest Trip in one day was almost the same as your trip distance around 720 Kms (450 miles) in my 1997 1.3 felly GLX. the car seats were comfy enough for the trip. I was doing 50mph most of the time and did 100mph for a few kilometers every couple of hours to energize my head with adrenaline so i do not fall asleep since i was driving alone.

done brum to middlesbrough and back overnight a couple of times, 400 odd miles.

brum to new quay, wales and back overnight only 320 miles or so but much more fun.

one of the boro trips was during one of the major cold snaps a couple years ago, several inches of snow/slush on motorway, with cars broken down/abandoned everywhere. the felly got me home with no drama :)

I've clocked around 500 miles within a day in the Fun, more than once, dropping my lad to Crewe for his apprenticeship residential's. Equates to around 8 - 10 hours on the road ;)

I did the Plymouth - Banjul rally in one that I converted to LHD as the rally rules demanded it.

Did 4399 miles in total. One day we went from St Flour in France to Benidorm via the Millau viaduct (tallest bridge in the world, I believe) ,650 miles, all in one go aside from petrol stops - about 13 hours in total. Car never missed a beat, even in the Sahara where it got a real thrashing. Even managed to average 40mpg over the entire trip.

DJ wins this one then :)

I quite fancy doing one of those banger rally's some time but I have a pretty full tear next year already lol

My longest non-stop trip was 770 km made in 12 hours over 3 countries, no highways, from 12 AM to 12 PM.

That includes a 45 minutes ferry cross.

I don't think anyone's going to beat DJ, but I went to Devon and back one summer, with the Felly full to the brim, I think it was about 800 miles altogether in a week but never missed a beat, and all on two tanks of fuel.

 I drove a Mk1 Favorit from Cambridge to Northern Ireland about 6 years ago [no, they don't float!]. It caught fire on the M6 [luckily I managed to stop the fire quickly] so I had to stay at my sister in law's in Preston to fix it before I could continue the journey the next day. The car still lives.

I thought felicia16v asked about longest non stop trip, in one go or one day, on legal roads, no rally.

And mine was, a non-stop trip, in one go in one day. Legal roads, legal car, etc. Wasn't a "rally" in the "competition" meaning of the word, but in the "car people doing something for fun" meaning.

FTR, a competitive event, you'd be doing maybe 400 miles in a day (longest rally GB day was about that, IIRC, including liaison and stage mileage), so no competition for anyone there, as it were as it's not long in terms of mileage. But the cars still have to be road legal, again for the record.

Jim - do it, bloody great fun!

I did a return trip to abersytwyth from hayling island which is around 500 miles ish I think. It nearly bloody crippled me too, and it cost about a million quid in petrol, makes you realise just how bad the seats are in the fel. I've done the same journey in my a3 quattro as well and it was actually cheaper in fuel and I could actually still sea straight after doing it in the Audi.

Yay, Tom's back emoticon-0128-hi.gif , were you let out for good behaviour,

Longest trip in one day ranking

1st by far djaychela

2nd teflontom with 500 miles and blood in urine afterwards

3rd lazydaisy with 800 miles in a week

4th daverapid who remembers doing a trip 6 years ago

...

Last - me, disqualified for counting in km, not miles, and for driving on the wrong side of the road

Didn't make Adurer's top 4 :'(

Twice done trips from north of Glasgow to Deal, Kent (530 miles each way).

Just today drove back down to Ross-on-Wye (375 miles) before continuing to Deal tomorrow via Nailsea, Bristol (275 miles).

Not bad for a standard 1.3 Felicia bought for £46 in 2007!

I actually find it reasonably comfortable (and I'm 6ft 3) and I'm always surprised at how, even in the Felly, I manage to pass about 80% of the other traffic on the motorway.

I got a few jobs done on the car while it was at home in Scotland but, annoyingly, an exhaust blow developed today which I will need to get sorted out once I reach Kent. I think it's the central silencer; hopefully not the cat!

Didn't make Adurer's top 4 :'(

Oh well... maybe next time I'll come to lovely Kent county, hire The Stig on the way to learn me LHD and break my personal record of 475 miles by night, no highways, hill and mountain roads, 12 hours straight 1 pee break trip.

I managed 480 miles in a day in a 1.9 diesel cube van.

I did about 512 miles in the 1.9d estate last month, all in the total space of about 12 hours there and back. Down the A1/M1 from Durham to London. Never missed a beat mind you! Lovely drive down, but back up, my arse was killing as was my neck... as was my back.... and right foot....

Although I'm convinced the GLXi seats were more comfortable, even though they're like the same? Just the GLXi is velour.

And whilst diesel is quite nice cruising at 50-60mph, its just insufferable at 70 and beyond. I have mentioned many, many times on this forum xD

Yeah, that killed me too. I wish there was a cruise control for carburettor cars to buy...

For sure, on my longer trips I've ended up with numb bum syndrome and the distinctive ache in the lower back, that fades with the joy of movement

Took jnr back to Preston in The Fun a couple of years ago. Round trip 520 miles (all but 5 were motorway - M2, M25, M1, M6), 10 hours, only stopping to fill-up on leaving Preston (Tesco), other than dropping jnr off. The pickups are definitely not designed for long journies. Did have the back open and the windows down all the way though :) :)

The Ocy does it on 2/3 of a tank and far more comfort (aside from the cruise-control and the a/c ;) )

^ Must have been a nice day :sun: as it can be a tad breezy open backed!

'twas the most excellently sunny day dude, in mid-august. Did get a tad nippy as I was coming back, so had the heater on full-tilt hot (keep my tootsies warm), but didn't close up until safely on the driveway again :)

(After having had the back open as often as possible, it did feel slightly claustrophobic when all closed up.)

The first run I did in her, the day after picking her up, was to Preston too, but later in the day, in May. When I got to the B&B, I discovered I couldn't feel the back of my neck as it had got quite cold around 21:00.

I misjudged an evening once with the kids in the back & on return they likened the feeling to being shut in the fridge for a good hour or so! :giggle:;)
