Fabia 1.9SDi Fuse Problem ( low beam on the left 54)

Featured Replies

Hi Folks..

Got a strange problem with my 2001 Skoda Fabia 1.9SDi Classic..

Today i went out to start the car and my battery light did not come on (as it usually does) and when i started the car there was a warning buzzer going off... (a sort of high pitched beeping)

My fuel gauge also goes to the correct level before start up, but when i start it up the fuel gauge bounces a bit and drops to empty..

Now the warning buzzer has stopped and i had a general check of the car and main beam on headlights were not working, nor the indicators or hazards...

I've checked the fuses and fuse no 68 (25amp for fresh air blower) and no 54 (15amp for low beam on the left) had blown...

Replaced the fuses and fuse no 54 keeps blowing....

I've cleaned the Earth Terminal on the suspension strut and figured out everything works fine until i turn the lights on.... ( well all apart from the battery light doesn't come on..) and when i turn the lights on only fuse no 54 blows...

Any information or help would be much appreciated..

Brian

It could be two unrelated faults but the blowing fuse is a good place to start. It's hard to say without looking at a wiring diagram as to what fuse 54 feeds, have you checked the left headlight doesn't work with this fuse blown? I find the easiest way to pinpoint a short circuit like that is disconnect everything on the circuit, replace the fuse, turn the ignition on and reconnect connectors etc until the fuse blows. That would at least narrow down the search a bit but like I say it's difficult without a wiring diagram in front of you as that circuit could easily be feeding things you won't expect.

The battery light not coming on indicates a fault in a connector at the bottom front of the car. 2 wires go in/out of this and they often break.

These wires supply the car with information on the alternator load and when they break they often don't tell the alternator to kick enough power out which causes the dash to go into a spin.

The fuse fault sounds like a dodgy wire or short somewhere and not much else to do bu try and trace this.
