Lousy P/X offerered for my Octy

Featured Replies

Whilst in for MOT yesterday (Pass by the way) i thought i would take a look round the showroom after.I noticed and liked straight away a brand new Fabia Monte Carlo 1.6tdi cr being offered at £12995.Had a word with the sales guy who sold me my Octy from new about a deal on the Fabia. He took a look around mine noting the mileage etc and we went back in for a "chat".

After a chat with his manager he came back and said to me he would offer me £2500 for my Octy.I was in complete shock!!

I said to him "£2500 you got to be kidding me right?" but his answer was no thats the best they can do.

So with that i told him to forget it and walked out.

Well after this i have decided to keep the Octy until it falls apart.

2006 (56) Octavia 1.9tdi Ambiente 57K with full service history from new and just me as the owner for £2500?

Anyway a few pics of the Fabia in question

The Octy will die as a 1 owner from new.

Sorry for my ramblings.

Just out of interest? Is that Meaden's of Sway? They offered me stupid money for my old Toledo a few years back :wall:

Just a thought but from looking at the first pic the car is "used". Pre-reg showroom car. Noticed the 8.9% apr sticker in the window.

Yes correct it was Meadens.

Looking further into it my car as it stands actaully books at £3900.But anyway i,m not going to part with it now.I,ll keep it until it dstroys itself.

@ Preston Motors- The car is brand new but with £2500 off rrp price just 50 miles on the clock.Yes its actually registered now

Heres the link:

The monte is on the vat offer hence the 'saving' ;-)

The sticker with the apr should be 7.9% apr applicable to new cars. 8.9% used cars.

Regardless its still poor money for my car :(

I tried Meadens recently when I was looking to buy a new Blackline, they were about £500 worse than Sparshatts Skoda at Fareham and incorrectly said the finance deal had ended when it hadn't. Pretty poor sales team, although its only a 5 min walk to the show room so I may still use them for future servicing.

Just for information I got 2500 for an 07 2.0 tdi Ambient with 114k on the clock so yours sounds a low offer, plus mine had been a bit of a DIY workhouse over the last year so was fair-poor condition.

You could give Savills at Mustow green (worcestershire) a ring and ask for Patrick. I traded in my 1 year old octy SE plus and he gave me what 'what car' said was the forecourt price. OK so it was immaculate with only 6k on the clock but it might be worth a phone call. It may well depend on whether the dealer would put it on their forecourt or not as if they're off loading it you won't get as much as they'll be taking a gamble at the auctions, but I traded in a 12 year old 1.2 Clio to buy my SE plus and he gave me the best deal I could get on that too. I honestly don't know what your car s worth- have you looked in the various car price books to find out? Best of luck

They are a great garage otherwise for servicing/repairs.I can,t fault them and the service is friendly and thorough.Only 7 miles from me too

I have enquired elsewhere and it actually books at £3900 but to be honest i would be gutted if i parted with it.The car has given me 6 years of trouble free motoring. You never know what your getting into next these days.

I have used them for a couple of services for my car and the wife's Fabia and so far so good. They did manage to mis diagnose a fault on my Dad's Superb which later caused a fairly big issue. I guess no one is perfect !!

Looks mint

Youre right too

Keep it

Whenever I think about changing a car, I tend to look at my car from the point of view of both a seller and a prospective buyer.

If the trade in value is pants, then it's also a bargin for me the "buyer" so I'm happy to keep it a while longer.

Could sell privately on here or eBay?

Depends on what you mean by " Books at £3900 " and which book.

Glasses is well out of touch with prices these days.

But was that the top book price if it is then that is the max Retail price for a dealer forcourt.

You can take 6-900 off that for private sales and 12-1500 of for a trade in value.

I dont think its bad. I just P/Xed my company car in and was offered £3600.

It has high mileage on but it was an Octavia 1.8TSi elegance reg sept 2010 so it was just 2 years old.

I dont know which is worse the offer they gave you or wanting 13 grand for a used sheep in wolfs clothing, I am in a similar position, my car is perfect and no dealer is going to get my car for a song and sell it for 2500 more than I would get, you made the right decision, they are not called the stealers for nothing , but to be fair to Prestons( on here) they seem to be more customer orientated

Maybe i should have worded my last post differently. by no means was i saying that 2500 was ok because of the vat offer, just a passing comment.

The octy looks nice though.

Having spent a decade working in the trade in a previous life, about £1500 - £2000 off of Glasses book for older cars is about right.

Your car will end up a the auctions, so the CAP Black Book price is what the dealer is looking at.

But, they should have a good few hundred margin in a new car to bolster the p/ex price.

Long gone are the days of 15% margin in new cars, when I was last working for a main dealer they were 10% on the larger cars, and 7.5% on the smaller cars. Dealers want to keep about 5% as the showroom has to be paid for somehow ........

Most use CAP as a price guide and i just dont trust it my self.

If they are using CAP on my car fine i'll use it on the car i'm looking at.

If only :) I had that conversation once with a ford dealer who miss sold me a car, it was a year older than they claimed... All I wanted was the difference back .... I took both cap and glasses with me and got what I wanted

Aything older than 4 years used to get valued with CAP as it was likely to go to the auctions. Most main dealers want 3-4 year old cars as the oldest stock on their forecourt - still got warranty so no expensive costs to ge them up to scratch for resale etc.

Of course, if they got a peach of a 5 year old car it would be bought at CAP prices and retailed at Glasses - £1500 margin if you can get away with it!

Have seen £1500 differences between CAP and Glasses at dealers. They seem to go with CAP now since that's based on auction prices, so I was told.

Thanks for all the info gents. Well no auction is getting my car. I'll keep it. I was just curious to see if I could move into a new car easy like it was to get this Octy from them. Obviously not now.

Had an 06 reg MK1 Octy tdi with FSH and 44K and they gave me £6000 for that against mine now but the MK1 was only 1 year old. I got a great deal on getting the MK2 from new with them.

Trade in price is pretty irrelevant IMHO as its what its actually going to cost me at the end of the day I'm more concerned about. They the dealers can put down what figures they like on the order form as long as I'm happy with the cost to change price
