Spare wheel

Featured Replies

I currently have a Octavia I which has a full size steel spare.

I'm currently pondering a newer car, which is likely to be another Octavia. Do the Octavia IIs have full size spares also?

Tom

Yes. When I brought my Elegance in September I was able to have full size spare as optional extra. However, there was a choice of space saver as well.

My 2009 Elegance has a steel wheel and tyre of different size from my alloy wheels and tyre. Not a space saver as such but still limited to 50mph from the sticker attached . I ran on the spare and actually forgot it was there as the handling felt normal at the speeds I drove at.

No it will need to be added as an option.

If you are to change ask to keep your spare, I did, it was part of the deal.

The MKI spare wheel will not fit the MKII though

Spare wheels are optional extra’s now on all Skoda’s (apart from the Greenline where it cannot be order with the car)

When I got my Mk2 the space saver was included.

I told them I didn't want it but I wanted a "propper" wheel.

They changed it! FOC.

New spare was steel though.

The OP said "newer car". Around 2009 Skoda stopped putting full size alloy wheels into the boot as spare.

If you are buying anything used, insist on a print out of the option codes so you will know whether the car came with a spare or was robbed out by the dealer or previous owner.

Although my 2006 had a steel non space saver spare, someone had filched the jack and wheel brace, so worth a check too.

OK, maybe I'll re-word the question, is the well in the boot deep enough on all Octavia II models to fit a full size steel and tyre?

I have no problem in ditching the poxy 2CV wheel and getting a steel and tyre from the knackers yard.

Tom

I have a full size spare. But if yours is an Octavia 1 it will not fit an Octavia 2.

So to answer your re worded question, yes it will take a full size spare

I didn't go for a spare tyre as an option. However having just suffered a flat I notice I don't have a jack either. Should this be the case or should I have had a jack supplied?

No use for a jack (or wheel brace) if you have no wheel to swap over, so they are not included.

Aye thought as much. Was just gonna get a spare off eBay (well that was the thinking at the time!)

Worth noting that if you have a vRS, the "full size spare" optional extra is not full size for a vRS which is 225 wide, and of course is only 16" rather than the 18" that the standard alloy is. You also cannot use a 15" on a vRS due to the brake callipers. Not tried it but I suspect the 18" standard alloy and tyre don't fit in the spare wheel area.

Should fit. A 205/55/16 has the same rolling radius as a 225/40/18. It may stick up a tad but it should fit in the wheel well

I suppose it is only 2cm higher, probably need to pop out the centre cap as there is that black screw down retaining thing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are the PCD of the wheel nuts different from Mk1 and Mk2 Octy?

I'm sure I've read Octy 1 is 100 mm PCD and Mk2 is 112mm (or something like that). Therefore his full sized spare in his Mk1 will not fit the new car.

Edit: oops, this has been mentioned before in this thread, that it won't fit.

Correct (as I pointed out above)

The wheel bolts are the same though.

This thread has got me thinking... I've just upgraded my front disks to 312mm and all is fine as I have 17" wheels. I've just checked and the spare I've got is a speed restricted 16". Now.... if I get a flat on the front, will the 16" fit on the new disks or is it only 15" which will cause problems? If I'm not mistaken, the VRS has 312mm disks as standard and according to gsp above, they have a 16" spare so I may be worrying about nothing. However, don't fancy having to do a juggling trick with the wheels if I do get a flat!

Providing your brakes are the same as what is on a FL vRS (probably pre-FL as well) then 16" is fine, either steel or alloy. My winters are 16" Audi alloy, there is not much clearance but still ok, not tried the 16" spare but that will probably have a bit more clearance.

greenline comes with no spare and you cannot spec one when ordering, so once i got car, into parts dept and £125 for wheel and tools

it was an article on watchdog a few weeks ago , no spare and kit infaltion kit no good

Not a problem. The 16" spare will fit fine over 312mm brakes. As you note, the vRS runs exactly the same setup.
