Aircon has stopped coming on when on fan speed 1

Featured Replies

Tonight I have noticed that the aircon has stopped coming (light out on switch) on when on fan speed 1, switch to fan speed 2 and it's OK.

Anybody any ideas why this should happen ?

With my fabia ever since i've owned it the aircon has never come on at fan speed one? Is my broke aswell or is that standard?

I think he means with the newer version of the fabia

The manual states:

The air conditioning system operates when switch is

pressed and the following conditions are met:

• engine running,

• outside temperature above +5 °C,

• blower switch switched on (positions 1 to 4). - Note "1"

Possibly a resistor has died somewhere?

Had a 9N ('05 pre FL) polo and had resistors die on me that meant I only had full speed fans, or no fans, so could be that?

EDIT: Oops, never noticed it was specfic to AC, so possibly not.

Yes that is how and when it has normally worked.

Where can the resistors be found.

Thanks for all your help.

No idea, sorry. Took it to a local garage to get it sorted.

it will be the resistor pack, each speed has a resistor on it to reduce the fan speed. Max speed has no resistor, and as you decrease the speed the resistance increases thus slowing the fan, so yes it sounds like the resistor has failed in position 1. If the resistor in the next to fastest position had failed then you lose all speeds except maximum.

It's a common fault. The a/c switch gets it's power from the blower motor circuit. If you check, you will find the blower motor isn't running on position 1.

OK, thanks. However will the duff resistor be at the fan motor or at the fan switch or somewhere else.
