Well my information was second hand from our "sister" ISP.

Thankfully i have very little to do with open reach but what little i do know they are suffering severe brown stuff and whirly blades with regards to fault fix and installs.

That was why my opening gambit was 10 days to be considered lucky (if it happened).

sadly this is something which I am negotiating with Openreach just now. New changes coming in that mean they will get hit with penalties if they don't offer an appointment wtihin 13 working days. Mind you they're supposed to do it within 14 at the moment!

Openreach seems to be taking lessons from courier and delivery companies at present -- leave a card saying you were out when we called, even though you weren't (or go to the wrong address entirely and say nobody was at home), then reschedule with a further month's delay.

^^^ sounds soooo familiar.

However, since we switched to orange for eveything, openreach (who do their installs and repairs????) have phoned to confirm the appointment, their man phoned to confirm the time of his arrival. Which he did, on time. Set up the new fibre broadband and now all is hunky dory-ish. 37mbps is quite nippy! Speed and connectivity still yo-yoing. Although they did say this would happen and may take up to 10 days to settle. Here's hoping.

If you're in need of a barby over the xmas break Graham, I have a couple which I won't be using till summer.

Thanks Nick, but we do at least have a working stove now!

My ISP was on the phone earlier this evening and said that the "problem" has now been escalated to the next level. At least I've got another 3 nights shifts so have some access to check emails, but unable to do any banking or ordering stuff on the work's system.

We had that at work except they turned up, did the work and then tried to claim no one had been in the office when they called. Tried to hit us with an abortive visit charge.

Well, that is what they told my ISP. Surprised us too, but he escalated the complaint a long way up the tree!

Which isp ?

Headweb; they are a small company based in Kidderminster. They use Entanet as their server.

Not the cheapest but excellent service.

Will be interesting to see what traction they get with Openreach. I work with 2 of the biggest isps and even with all their size it's hard getting much change out of Openreach.

Sheila says that John from Headweb said that the problem is now with BT-W, whoever they are. The order for the ADSL line went in on 23/11 and we should have been connected last Monday week. We shall just have to see what happens. I finish work until the 27th now so might be "in-communicado" until then.

Ah, BT wholesale. Another department within BT who act as a service provider to smaller isps. So you have a BT Internet service being re badged and sold on. Might mean they have more leverage with Openreach. Strictly against the rules but it happens

Yipee.

Line now fully working as of 1230 today!!

Congratulations! Good to have you back in regular contact.

How is the speed/stability?

Well thats's a relief then! Bit of a war and peace...

Since your saga started, we have been awarded fibre in the village and are now connected, Speed now 37.??meg (from 3ish) but we still get quite frequent drop-outs, which is a pain.

Suspect it is Orange throttling, but they deny, deny, deny.

How is your speed/ stability then Graham?

How is the speed/stability?

Speed is a bit iffy at the moment, but the engineer from Openreach who called said it will improve over the next few days as useage increases. Was told not to switch the modem off for now. Shall do a speed test on Sunday, as I'm now on nights.

Turns out they had to rewire to the post opposite as we were on a shared line with number 3, and now are on our own wire, plus they had to put some new bits into the exchange.

Graham

As I understand it the router talks to the local exchange and initially the link is slow. I was told by a BT engineer (pre Openreach) that they monitor your speed over first 72 hours then set the link between you and the exchange to a figure around 80% of the best figure obtained.

I have always left my router turned ON unless there is a problem then a reboot usually fixes it.

Fred

Glad to hear you have it all sorted  , and are back to help keep a eye on Bob

Thanks Fred, exactly what I intend doing, but I need to do a bit of sorting out the plugs in the corner where the 'puter is. Today I wanted to get rid of some of the outstanding correspondence that has accumulated before I came to work.

Welcome back to home connection Graham!!!

Cheers

Peter.

Ps Are you drying up a bit down there??
