First Service Cost - 1.2 Tsi Dsg Elegance

Featured Replies

Guys,

I have just picked up my wife's car from the dealer having had it's first service at 9000 miles. The bill came to £222, not including some warranty work done at the time and a further appointment for more warranty work to be carried out after they found an oil leak from the gearbox and engine.

This seemed too high and when I mentioned the fixed price 10k service for £129 on Skoda's website it was quickly established that that offfer is for cars over 3yrs old.

Looking at the bill it is broken down as follows: (I have rounded the pennies up to the pound)

Service £110

Waste Diposal Charge £6

Oil Filter £8

Sump Plug £2

Cleaner £4

Q-Prouniv Maintspr £4

Castrol Edge 5w/30 £54

This came to £185 + Vat

Total = £222

Can I ask other members for their opinion? I have had a quick look round the site and this is the highest price I could see. Needless to say I am not very impressed.

Many Thanks

£85 for my 10k service on the vRS ... its worth shopping around, the prices vary massively... (that was from my local skoda dealer)

I doubt they actually used castrol edge. it will have been VW502 00, 504 00 or 507 00 depending on your engine spec but i'd be surprised if they used Edge.

The price doesn't seam that extortionate though.

Did you not get any skoda vouchers for money off when you purchased the car, i got a great big booklet of vouchers for a percentage off services etc and parts etc.

Did you check what was carried out or was it just a fluids check? Its worth getting a break down for a fair comparison.

Sounds like an error on the bill if it was a 1 year/10,000 mile Oil Change service, it should have been around the £110 max including Materials & VAT.

Did you ask for Castrol Edge & did they ask if you wanted a Flush done.

Cheeky sods tried once to charge me for Environmental charge/waste disposal of £4,

i questioned who they were paying this too & they were getting their Burst Oil collected & not paying for that service,

actually receiving payment.

Pretty high Charge if it is for the Filters Disposal.

I would be asking for further clarification on the Time Taken for the Service.

Is their Hourly Rate £110. ??

Or around £70 & they are charging for 1.5 hours which is ridiculous.

No didn't ask for Edge or a flush, feeling a little had over now having paid double what you thought...

Don't recall getting any vouchers when we first picked the car up either, they would have come in handy now!

My 1.2 TSI(86)ps 1st sevice £85 +vat

My first service on a 1.2 TSI 105 was £93 total at a big Skoda dealer. Labour was £42 plus vat.

Your charge does seem extorionate

As already said, first service on its own should be around the £100 mark, maybe slightly over... Certainly not double that amount!!!

The last service plan I got was for two services (one for 30k and one for 40k miles, the 40k one being a biggie) and one MOT test and I only paid £299 for all that.

I'd name and shame the dealer if I were you, so that others in your area can avoid.

You were ripped off... seriously.

My first service on the Fabia TSI was £108

Guys,

Thanks for the responses so far. Seems I have paid double what the average going rate is. I will hold off on naming dealer for the moment as I have sent an email asking for the bill to be investigated and revised

I have previously had a good relationship with them and will be disappointed if I cannot resolve this.

Hopefully I will receive some good news in due course and will post an update either way.

I touched on this in another thread. They are simply ripping you off and then holding a gun to your head if you try service the car yourself as they claim you will invalidate the warranty by doing so. I will say once again , NONSENSE! I bought a genuine Skoda filter for my Greenline Fabia from Ebay for £5 delivered, part number 03P 115 562 and five litres of oil also Ebay, Fuchs fully synthetic [German oil] meeting specification for my car VW 507 00, £29 delivered. I fully serviced and inspected the car according to the Skoda service schedule, time, 40 minutes. Ran a diagnostic and reset the service flag on the dash, a further 10 minutes. Total time 50 minutes, total cost £34. I then stamped and signed the service book myself.

I had this problem with another make of car when they declined to invoke the warranty when they saw no main dealer stamp in the service log. I took legal advice and the dealer was forced to carry out the work as it was established the car had been maintained and serviced in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations!

They have ripped you off I'm afraid simply because you have let them. Other posters have said shop around if you don't want to service the car yourself. Better luck next time.

My first service cost at the authorized dealer was about £70 for 1.2 Tsi Dsg, but this is in Turkey.

It contains Castrol Edge 5w/30 oil, air-oil-cabin filters and labour price...

Your prices can kill me

At what mileage is the first service and what is really included?

Ive asked for some prices here in Sweden and the cheapest i could find was £250 and the most expensive around £280

Thats pretty bad! I paid £96 for my first service and the 1.8 probably uses more oil. My quotes ranged from £189 - £96 iirc. Hopefully they will resolve it for you. :)

At what mileage is the first service and what is really included?

Essentially it's just an oil and filter change and an inspection, probably 1 hour of work at the most.

Hum okay, but what mileage? Here it is every 20000km.

Hmmm, i wonder if someones computer has taken a fixed price service and then added the cost of the consumables as well. As the computer has told them that is the price that is what they have charged.

Certainly 1st and 3rd service on the vRS was about £80 as I recall, but i really believe you should not have been charged that much based on my experience.

The price of oil always makes me laugh though, £54 for 3.6 something litres when we know that a 4 litre can will cost about £40 and can often be had for a lot less. That and the fact that it probably comes out of a 200 litre drum which costs considerably less as a bulk discount will apply.

Hum okay, but what mileage? Here it is every 20000km.

Every 10,000 miles in the UK.

Just dug out papers on first service on wife's 1.2TSi DSG SE last December - Total of £138.90 inc VAT

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away on a course. The dealer concerned is Parkview Skoda in Reading. After the initial complaint they got in touch, stated that the price was correct and that the other prices I had quoted had been for an oil and lube service only, whereas they carried out an inspection service, which allowed them to pick up the faults that would be rectified under warranty....

However, they stated that as a gesture of goodwill the service manager would give me a voucher for £100 to use against my next service. As they had been trying to promote the two year service plan when we initially took the car in I asked if they would take the £100 off of that. I got a phone call 2 days later to state they couldn't do that as the service plans were part of a different budget purchased from VW, but would leave the £100 voucher on file for me.

I wasn't happy with this but due to being away left it there. I took the car back in today to have the warranty work carried out and whilst there spoke to the guys on the service desk. I told them that on reflection I either wanted the £100 as a refund or they could keep it altogether. There seemed little point in bringing my car in for a service with a voucher reduction when the whole point of the complaint was the price of the service in the first place. No doubt any subsequent service would also be overpriced, so I would go elsewhere.

The staff then had a quick consultation with the service manager who then agreed to issue me a £100 refund. I await a cheque in the post. I am now satisfied with this result, although it has left a bad taste in my mouth that I was charged so much in the first place.

As had been said by other members, this should be a warning to all those requiring a service, a few phone calls could save £100's. Before taking our other car in to them I will canvass all the other local dealers and ensure that they at least match the lowest quote.

Many thanks..

A call to Skoda UK Customer services is really in order.

A Oil Change Service includes an Inspection. or should.

Or it would be an Oil & filter Change.

Any Warranty Work was to be carried out under warranty.

You could have requested them to check out a fault & see about getting the warranty work OK'd by Skoda.

They are trying to say that if you had only been paying for a 'Oil & Filter Change',

they were going to not inspect a year old vehicle.

They should stop digging now.

Pants on fire.

Thanks for updating.

george

My first service was free, so will my 2nd and 3rd be free... finance = free servicing and judging from rough prices the interest paid over 3 years will be less than 3 years servicing.

On a side note, if they say they used castrol edge, they have to otherwise they get in big trouble... my dealer showed me the oil thingys and each one had a sticky label on it with each grade - mine had castrol edge, and Skoda recommend it, so the dealer use it.

Same here, 3 year servicing with financing deal costing me £325 - the only reason I went for the financing deal :).

I will have to call them and ask to change my vehicle to fixed service schedule and not flexible it is currently on to get the value for money, otherwise it iwll be a rip off !
