underbody tray

in a word what does it do and how important is it

my cars mega low and half of it is broken from getting on and off my drive only in the rear conners though it doesn't bother me but its not doing any harm is it?

Good question. I ripped mine half off on my daughter's driveway and had to get a mechanic to screw it back on due to the weird type of fastener. Think it is just a dust/debris protector and over time, a place to collect mud!

apparently without it you get a significant drop in mpg coz it helps aerodynamics quite a lot.

if your going to buy another one, check the forsale section, ive got one of them and a few other bits forsale

reduces noise a fair bit too

improves mpg, stops the air hitting the bulk head, thus helping with wind resistance, mines has gone up by 3mpg since i put it on

More aerodynamic helping mpg, prevents stones and other debris flying into the the bottom of the engine bay.

Especially aircon compressor and crankshaft pulley - imagine the consequences....

i did not mean the engine tray

if you look at title it says UNDERBODY

my engine undertray is fine

I suspect the same answers are relevant though - sound, mpg and cleanliness...

Ibizas of the same age didnt come with underbody side trays (because there meant to be the light weight "sportier" cousin).. so they won't be mega important m8 ;)

It will probably rust more quickly, make sure it has some sort of underbody sealer under the tray!

Thanks for clearing it up

All VAG cars from the late 1990's are factory undersealed so no need to put more gunk on ;)

What is this underbody?

What is this underbody?

2 plastic under body protection plates that run either side of the exhaust down the sides of the car body (underneath).. where the brake pipes + fuel cooler runs ;)

So the fuel cooler should be covered? Don't think I have these lol

Theres a hole so the fuel cooler isn't covered but the fuel lines are ;) (otherwise the cooler couldn't do its job of cooling..)

Anyone got any photos?

Anyone got any photos?

Well i had a quick look on google n found 2 pics of the u derside of fabia vrs's... neither had the side trays...

My fabia has got it but it was a pd100 originally... so im guessing with the fabia VRS being a "sportier" model they ditched it like the ibiza's.. weight saving possibly :-/..??

Possibly? Def don't have em :( lol

That thing with cooling fins under the driver's seat on the outside is a fuel cooler?

Mines been off for.months now no different in mpg not that noisy it is a diesel. And the engine still looks mint.

Yes fuel cooler but it should be exposed. If its covered what would the point in it be lol?
