Have you left it running for a while?

I think it gets the date and time from the GPS signal.

Has only been running with GPS active for a few minutes....maybe i'm being a bit impatient :giggle:

  • thought you boys might find this amusing!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5dL4DPm-DE

  • Yes, for basic use the 300 looks like an absolute bargain to me. These are cost prices BTW, I do not earn out of this group buy. I am doing it because I think on the roads today, with insurance clai

Mine's been running for a week and I have checked all the footage and its never found a GPS signal or updated the time from July 2011. Not sure what to do, but at least it is recording. I have the camera in the front for GPS and speed if required.

Well, I finally got some spare time today and fitted a 380 unit into the other half's car. I used a piggy back fuse holder and a cigarette extension socket, both of which are nicely tucked away behind the glove box (Ford Focus) and the wire is hidden behind the pillar trim and roof lining. Nice and tidy, no hint of it being there apart from the wire from the roof lining to the unit itself.

I took the car out for a drive and had a look at the footage on the laptop afterwards, I'm very impressed. Great, clear footage with smooth playback. Oh, it is in English too thankfully. I just hope installing it in the Fabia will be as easy and discreet.

People have no doubt already noticed, but in the settings menu, you can have Parking Mode enabled without the LED being illuminated. Personally I'll be opting for that on both our units as it is far more discreet when leaving the vehicle unattended but whilst wanting the device recording or ready to record. I noticed that as I was flicking through the options in the settings menu, I've now altered it to MPH too.

I'll update here once I've sorted mine in the Fab, which is bound to be a pain seeing as fitting the lady's was so simple!

Thanks to Gizmo68 and James I for helping me out with fitting questions.

Finally, thanks again Richard, great buy these things.

Turns out by having the GPS active for a while the camera updates the time/date etc appropriately. GPS seems quite sporadic in rural areas but in towns and cities the signal is pretty good

I've just tidied up the cabling for my 400 unit, though it still snakes its way to the front 12v socket. The cable is neatly tucked behind the headlining and A-pillar trim and through the fuse box, which is where it will go permanently once I've got the fuse holder to 12v socket adaptor widget.

May I ask which empty fuse slot you used Richard?

Turns out it's piggybacked off the Stereo Fuse in the Yeti.

Could have sworn it used a blank slot, that must have been in my previous Greenline II Fabia...

I have a few of questions around fitting 1 to the rear wiper switched live -

- Did anyone chop the end ( ciggy lighter end ) off the supplied cable & use to wire it in.

- was an in line fuse added to the circuit between unit & switched live connection.

- can anyone pm or e mail ( will supply e mail ) a photo of completed circuit.

Chopped mine off about 1 foot from the camera end, split and removed thin insulation to expose the wiring, then spliced into correct wiring, testing with multimeter to ensure switched live and earth selected. For the wiring going down the nearside pillar of the bootlid, the earth was brown and the switched live was black, There is no "circuit" as its merely piggybacking off an existing circuit. The draw of the camera is so little it will not even slightly push the circuit piggybacked to any point where it might overload. For me, this is especially the case as I have no rear wiper anyway.... :D

I piggy backed mine from the headlight turning fuse, it works fine.

I am going to do exactly the same in the Fabia in time for the Castle combe weekend although I will have to find a different live, I have bought an extra cable and windscreen mount so I can swap one camera between two cars.

By the way I've got a 400v2 unit available. (unwanted order)

Already updated to English. :)

Hi Bossfox. Have you still got the spare 400 available?

Let me know when you are going to fit.... i will bring my mulitmeter round.....

Might have an inline fuse at home somewhere, better safe than sorry ;) fuse prob not needed but just saves it from going POP!

Folks, have I made a schoolboy error in piggybacking the unit onto the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket fuse? The woman's car wouldn't start earlier, is there a preferable fuse to piggyback at all?

I'm guessing I've made a silly mistake, any help or recommendations or suggestions as to how to remedy this for future use would be great.

Jump started the car, just don't want the battery draining again.

Cheers.

A word of warning to anyone with the 400:

Very impressed with the recording and image quality, but after an hours driving, my date and time remained at 25 July 2012.

After having a look on the internet, there seemed to be agreement that a firmware update would fix it.

The firmware version I had was V1.011 and on the Blackvue website the current download is V1.040. So I downloaded it.

However that was obviously a mistake

And the unit now just says 'The model information is different' on a repeated cycle.

BossFox - the download that was in my Dropbox has gone. Is there any chance you could resend it again please? - I promise not to fiddle around with it again!!

It's Richard. :)

Yes, available and sorted with you via PM for the GB price of £210 for the 400V2.

Piggyback it off an ignition live. Mine is piggybacked off the stereo fuse.

Comes on with the car and off when you take the key out, provided you don't need parking recording.

(if so you may need a Power Magic which monitors battery condition)

Thanks Richard :-)

Thanks Richard!! :blush::blush:

Curiously, having just gone out for a drive, the date and time are now correct. Double win :sun:

Cheers  That was useful specially as was being told that you cant cut the end off the balckvue lead & I know from my conversations with RoadHawk support you can with their cameras, even if you go into a permanent live as the camera monitors your battery drain & auto shuts off the camera at a specified level ( you dont get stung having to buy a specific lead to run park mode).

Well both mine and the other half's are now successfully installed. On her unit (in the Focus) I piggybacked the fuse to the electric windows, which works a treat.

Oddly on mine I tried fuses for electric windows, the stereo, heated mirrors etc- all of which I thought would act as ignition live circuits- but powered up the camera as soon as it was connected. Eventually trial and error found that the ECU fuse works as you would hope.

Now in both cars, the camera powers up once the ignition is fired up and power is cut when the engine is turned off; hopefully with no risk of draining batteries!

First of all I missed the Shark Performance offer for the Self Tune unit and now I've only just come across this one - I've been promising myself for nearly 12 months I'd get one of these and I've missed the flipping group purchase (again!!)

Same here dude, I am gutted £249 on Blackvue UK site for the 400HD II with 16gb card at moment normally £259 if its of any use to you. I have a DoD GS600 but the Blackvue's are ever so slightly smaller and I have a lag with my GPS on it at moment so its for the chop. Wonder if any shops would do a 2 way group buy deal lol :D

Still plugging mine in the ciggy lighter at the mo', but is it obvious which wire's which when I chop the cable?

Thinking about a least used ignition live to use and I wondered if the heated rear window was a sensible option?

Gaz

Yep it's obvious. The two wires you expose are coloured red and black ;-)

It's looking like I'll end up organising another GB soon. (as in, within a few weeks)

Doh! Wish I'd never asked.

I'll ask my brothers if they're interested. Neither of them are on here though and both drive Ford's, so i hope they're allowed!! :D
