  • Yes, for basic use the 300 looks like an absolute bargain to me. These are cost prices BTW, I do not earn out of this group buy. I am doing it because I think on the roads today, with insurance clai

Thanks for the replies guys.

Richard gave me some useful info to consider before deciding which unit to go for and how many.

Do I just make deposit now as per the last group buy details earlier in thread?

I think the 4gb card that came with my 300G is bricked. :( Can read it on my PC but the 300G does "please check SD card" when inserted blank. Going to look out for a decent quality 8gb card I think.

Edit: Bought one, shall report on the outcome when fitted. If this one says "please check SD card" I fear the unit is a duffer. :(

No problem, if it is just send it back to me.

Any chance of getting a 300?

No, they are out of production.

I've held a couple back, but it's just for warranty replacements.

+1 for me please...

Richard - if the 300 is a no-go (I see you have a couple which is handy), I am tempted to pay the difference to have another 400 in the back, but I'll see if a replacement 300 does the trick first.

I have ordered one (2) of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170709632237?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 for when im fitting it. I understand I can use a free ignition switched slot in fuse box and intend to fit as per the picture earlier in thread but I have a question or 2, what amp fuse and which free slot do you guys use in Octy II FL? Exactly how do I connect the 2 wires I will have to it, I am assuming you crimp on 2 spade connectors and stick them in the holes in second slot in little adaptor, if so when looking at fuse box for a individual slot which is + and - as in top or bottom hole for the blade fuse?

Neither are negative!!

Find a fuse that is ignition fed and pull the fuse,

replace with the fuse tap,

put the fuse that you pulled into the tap (closest to the rest of the fuses,

remove the inline fuse in the cigarette socket and see what size fuse is fitted, place that sized fuse into the second slot of the fuse tap.

Wire the POSITIVE feed of a female socket (or cut off the cigarette plug if you like) and the negative wire to a round eyelet, loosen a nut / bolt going to the chassis (there are a couple of 8mm nuts that bolt the dashboard in place) place the eyelet behind the nut and tighten up.

Looking at my photo below I would say the purple fuse is possibly a 3AMP fuse

Just need clarification to make sure I understand how the adaptor works, am I right in thinking:

1. That the original fuse that it replaces is inserted into one of the adaptor slots and still powers the original device/item?

2. The second fuse slot in the adaptor provides the power to the red lead for the camera (once a further fuse has been inserted)?

With reference to the camera lead, I am presuming there are two cables:

1. The red is plugged into the red lead of the adaptor

2. The black lead is attached to any 'earth to chassis' connection

If the answers are all 'yes' to the above then this is going to be a doddle to install :-)

Cheers dude think I have got it now I had thought the lead off adaptor was the earth was wondering where the power is meant to get to new cig plug from.

Yes spot on.

Looking at the installation pics provided Gizmo68, I am wondering if it is necessary to have the Cig plug at all.

I would prefer to remove the cig plug from the end of the camera lead and solder bullet plugs to the end of the lead.

Then from the piggy back connector solder a bullet socket, make the connection and then heat shrink the lot.

Observations please...

The ONLY problem with doing it that way may be if you need a replacement under warranty? otherwise I fully agree it is an easier tidier way to do it (although it is all out of sight anyway)

If it's warranty through the GB you don't need the Cig Plug.

I cut them off.

Do I just make deposit now as per the last group buy details earlier in thread?

bump bump

Hi Richard,

Was just about to put my name down for one of these, and was looking around the web for more info and discovered that they are releasing a newer model called the DR500 GW.

Just wondering if your sources can get any of this new model ? Looks very interesting.

More info here http://ohmyblackbox....oduct&id_lang=1

Cheers

Reviews I saw the other week and info on them seemed to say more or less same camera as the 400 V2 inside but with wifi. Only use I could make out for the wifi was the ability to use their app to connect you mobile to it to see the camera on screen of smart phone. Apart from lining it up I don't see the real point in this, can hardly be able access its feed when not in wifi range of car. But maybe there is more to it. Design of camera unit itself and mount is slightly different, wifi squeezed in there will not help any heat issues new casing appears to have a load of holes drilled in it and they claim "improved cooling" but as I was aware the 400 V2 was an improvement on that front anyway. I am tempted by the newer one but might be better to hold off for now and wait until its out there and no be a guinea pig, especially if its really just same camera as current model with wifi.

I saw an Australian dash cam site that was getting 50 early ones for first 50 customers shipping 14/01/2013 but no word on an official launch date there or UK that I could see.

Like FUBAR, I can't see the point of seeing the video on your smartphone when you are supposed to be driving.

BUT, maybe there is more to it.

I'll ask.

For anyone wishing to avoid paying paypal fees £7.54 (if paying in 2 transactions) on 400 V2 model who is not aware of how this can be done, you can use you bank account directly with paypal rather than a credit/debit card which is when the fee is applied (under a personal then gift transfer). Payment is still instant but no fees for either side. Just in case anyone didn't know as I set mine up to that method years ago rather than my debit card once they started this card fee. Could be a pint and a half saved!

Paypal's fee (link to page only works if logged in so took a screenshot)
