Left Foot Brake override possible?

Do you know if it is possible to disable the brake / throttle switching to enable left foot braking on a Fabia vRS?

I am thinking that it's going to be similar to the Octy with a switch on the brake pedal?

But is it possible or is there another level of gizmo's in my way?

You CAN do it in the octy? Would be nice to know if it can be disabled on any Fabia at all. ;)

I have spoken today to VW motorsport who ran Polo rally cars. They have told me the brake switch is also used by the cruise control ( to deacivate the cruise), so if you have cruise then it is not possible.

But if you have no cruise then on the cars they built it may be possible to cancel this feature via VAGCOM.

Slightly Off Topic - I drove off with the hand brake up a notch yesterday and the car reminded me I had done so by a gentle beep and then a big red flashing light on the dash :D

Why would you wanna do left foot braking? Drifts?

So you can keep the power on whilst breaking, Rally drivers use it alot to keep the wheels\engine spinning up.

In my experience, you can brake (ECU cuts acceleration), come off Acc (still with brake pedal depressed) and then go back on the Acc. When you re-depress the accelerator it works even though you're still on the brake.

You do this on the public highway do you Chavyboy???

Coming off the power defeats the object though.

It helps to keep the car balanced in a corner if you can brake and leave the power on.

If you try it in the fabia vrs it just dies and takes a second or too for the power to come back.

I'd forgot about left foot braking not working until I was driving though one of the BRC stages in Dyffi in May.

Good Evening. I PMed ColinD and asked him if he had come across the question. It was a while ago and I had not posted any questions at that time.

I would like to be able to driive the car as I want to NOT how it wants me to (... How long before we could have GPS telling the car how fast / slow the car can go round a corner??????)

Also my car is sometimes parked up for a week or so and the discs get quite rusty so a dab of brake cleans them up before you need to use them hard.

Wouldn't you need to use the handbrake to be able to do that? I mean, you're using an FWD, the rears have the handbrake...I don't know...never tried it so...

you could try removing one side of the brake light switch wires (the ecu side)

Hmm. I used to do this all the time in my Polo when braking. The Fabia just cuts the power though, and it's a bit academic because it's a turbo and a diesel and it doesn't rev as instantly as the Polo did.

Definately useful though, if the car responds to it!

All the VAG DBW (drive-by-wire) vehicles have the "feature" of cutting the throttle when you try to left foot brake. :thumbdwn: I suspect it's the ABS/ESP ECU detecting the brake switch and telling the engine ECU via CAN, which then closes the throttle actuator. Whether it's something that can be de-selected via VAG-COM is another matter - anyone know for sure? I've not seen anything on any of the OBD websites.

I used to left foot brake on a Renault 5 GT Turbo I used to have - it's useful to keep the turbo spinning when you're cornering since it gets rid of the turbo lag when you exit the corner. :thumbup:

On a non-turbo car it's pretty pointless, but on the vRS (or the Audi S3 I used to have) it can be beneficial - especially if it's been "chipped" (when you notice the lag more). :cool:
