Show me some figures!

To the OP, personally I'd want a smoother map than that.

It's got too much of a sharp torque spike.

Driviability with a smooth map is far more important that having 181bhp instead of 175.

It makes the car quicker and doesn't break things.

Would you suggest I give AWESOME a call to see what can be done?

That is a very spikey torque curve, not something I'd personally be happy with if you want things to last!

This was mine back when it had just a remap, done by Angel Tuning. Car drove really well, and the useable power out on track proved itself at the time. Headline figures mean nowt!

I've only recently give my car a good run against my mates 197 Clio f1 which has had a k-tec remap and I pulled away a couple of car lengths up to 100 but then he was catching me. Did rather well considering he thought he was going to sail past. (On private road of course)

Anyone got a graph of the basic shark map?

Going to go custom soon and were wondering when is it best to hit peak torque figure ?

Im not one to chase figures and much prefer usable power which is why I asked shark to limit the torque on the current map to prevent lighting the tyres up lol.

Looking at the stage 1 maps everyone's peak torque seems to come in between 2k and 2.5k rpm.

Pm on the way.

Cheers buddy, will try and sort something out, tad busy atm stripping a car but should have some free time at some point

May pop down to the Malthouse weather dependant!

Seems to be the way. Its when you start introducing Hybrids and GTB turbos with the bigger mass to spin up that peak torque starts pushing up the rev range.

Not very standard. RR from 2010 I think this was. Just pulls and pulls then, stop "ooops, there's the limiter" Still 270bhp @ 4,700rpm.

This explains the difference between our cars at Cadwell Jason, though unfortunately I don't have a graph of my current power level. Look at the power at 2500rpm on your graph, then compare it 500rpm later........ lol. I remember yours seemed to just explode with power when it came on song, where as I had much smoother pull on tap out of the corners, because the power/torque kicks in sooner. Once yours is on song though, my god does it go!

I still think for road use a PD150 or hybrid setup is a good option as the torque and power is most 'diesel like', but once you are chasing outright power then the GTB kits are impossible to ignore, however you are making the power band more like a petrol, and it needs to be revved.

Must get mine down on Alan Jeffrey's dyno at some point.

Looking at the figures here, some remaps have got peak torque quite high up the rev range (higher than mine).

One certain thing is, power drops off rapidly after 4,000 on remaps but keeps going on hybrid/GTB turbos

Is that a different map every year? Or just on different dyno?

Humidity and temperature play and part in the figures (but not bad considering the range of say 7BHP average.

Contrary to popular belief diesels like warmer air unlike petrols.

Is that a different map every year? Or just on different dyno?

2007,2008,2009,2010 - Same map, same dyno, IIRC 2009 I added a Magnex decatted exhaust, everything else stayed the same (give or take a few '000 miles) until summer 2010 when the turbo went pop :(

Contrary to popular belief diesels like warmer air unlike petrols.

Explain.

Could my sharp spike and quick loss of torque be due to a leak on boost? Intercooler maybe? It is standard.

Can't really see the numbers proper but its 179bhp and 340 ft/lb or torque IMAG0764.jpg

Probably just the map in general Tom. if you had a leak it would probably make less power and torque.

Just strange how it dies off so quickly?

Thought I'd post this up as a comparison to a remap as a number of members have been asking about digital tuning boxes

DynoPrintOut2011Small.jpg

Light Blue is Tuning box OFF

Red is Tuning box ON

Its a German Steinbauer Tuning Box which was about £500 new, but I bought second hand it for £100 off Ebay about two and a half years ago.

It has smoothed out the torque spike, but not much, but it does make the engine rev quicker higher up (if you know what I mean).

Anyway never had a problem with it apart from it does smoke a bit more than a remap when switched on.

Karl

P.S.

Now most of the time I drive with it off, only switch it on if I need to.
