  • It's taken me a week to read this thread after my own Superb purchase! I can only say how gutted I am you sold Audrey! It was like a soap opera I didn't want to end. What am I going to do tomorrow?!

  • That's one hell of an aerial on the back there!...

  • It's not an aerial; it's the pole that makes contact with the ceiling grid.

think the cam belt is at 80000? at least that what the octy was at, i do over a 1000 miles a week, allot of people don't believe me but my week day school contract is 62 mile in the morning and 62 in the afternoon again and then i do taxiing in between that so it really does add up so my 1st service is only a few month down the line

Audrey s gone blind in one eye!

Auto with DRL:

Looking at 1st pic

The left bulb was dull and the right bulb bright

The 2nd pic ...easy to change bulb?

Pic 1 looks like sidelights (the projector ‘eyeball’ is the dipped and main beam bulb)

Pic 2 the DRL’s should not work with any of the other lights on

Pic 2 is the cornering fog on, wheels must be slightly pointing right.

Thks Martin.

The side light is on in Pic2 coz in auto-light mode.

So i guess the side light was automatically switched on with DRL?

Spence: Cornering fog? Pls enlighten me?

Cripes mate,

Have you slept yet since picking her up as I've seen many photos taken in the dark!

Anyway WRT the servicing deffo go fixed on 8k a year mate. The Octy brochure covers fixed vs variable and as you've got the same engine as me? seems logical the same rules would aply to Audrey

Cheers

Service Intervals

When you order your Octavia, you can choose whether your car is on a fixed or a

flexible service regime. Your retailer will help you decide which regime suits how

your car will be driven, enabling your car to stay in the best possible shape.

Fixed regime: Service every 10,000 miles or one year (whichever comes first).

This is recommended if the vehicle is likely to be used in the following way:

> Driven fewer than 10,000 miles per annum and/or

> Mainly short journeys, drive mostly in towns or cities and/or

> High vehicle loading/towing and frequent hill climbs and/or

> Heavy accelerating and braking, using high revs

Flexible regime: Sensors in the engine detect when a service is needed. You will

be informed of this by a service light which will show at any point between 9,000

and 20,000 miles, up to 24 months (whichever comes first).

The flexible service regime is recommended for vehicles with a daily mileage of

more than 25 miles where the vehicle is driven regularly and mainly at a constant

speed with minimum vehicle and engine loading, minimal towing and driven in an

economical manner.

Cornering fog? Pls enlighten me?

A very rough guide to the light switch positions with xenon lights on the Superb

Position 1/ Light switch in off position (all the way to the left) DRL’s on (outer bulbs in the fog light housing), NO other lights are on.

Position 2/ Light switch in ‘Auto” EITHER DRL’s on or dipped beam on… depending how dark it is, AFSII (bending headlights and variable beam pattern depending on speed) will ONLY work in ‘Auto’.

Position 3/ Side lights, small W5W bulb in innermost part of the headlight illuminated (as well as tail lights / numberplate lights).

Position 4/ Dipped beam, outer (projector’s) lights in the headlights

Main beam, Bi-xenon same bulb and housing as dipped beam, plus the inner part of the headlight (where the sidelight bulb is located) has a halogen main beam bulb (this is the only bulb used when the headlights are off and you flash someone).

Front fog lights, pull the light switch out 1 click for the front fogs (bulb next to the DRL)

Rear fog lights, pull the switch out another click.

Cornering fog lights (only when the headlights are lit):

When you indicate left the left hand front fog light illuminates likewise when you turn the steering wheel approx 45º to the left (no indicator on) and your speed is lower than 40KPH the fog light will light up, same procedure for the right hand fog light when indication right or turning righ below 40KPH.

One dead giveaway for the cornering foglight is the light illuminates and goes out gradually.

When the car is placed into reverse both front fog lights can illuminate.

(cornering fogs can be enable / disabled by a dealer or someone with VCDS)

are the cornering fogs available with a s spec 62 plate?

Wow

Thks Martin!

Ok.

Pic 1 above: Audrey is in posn 3 (sides)

So this explains sides on and fogs on

Pic 2: Audrey is in posn 2 (auto)

This explains dipped beam (at night) with no DRL, but corner right fog on (as u explained Audrey facing right)

- Yes! The OUTER DRL bulb was never on!

So there is NOTHING wrong with Audrey!

I KNEW we shud have gone to SPECSAVERS!!!

Just ned to chk later if the DRL comes on in posn 1.

Martin!

U like a living Skoda encyclopedia!!! :-)

Thks once again!

PS: strange wil the cornering fog it is as it is (i know its more illumination)?

PPS: has anyone been stopped by POLICE who thinks we have fog lights on (whn in fact thy are DRLs)?

That certainly look to have been refurbished, they come like this:

themisto1.JPG

As you can hopefully see the front face of the spokes is polished (with clear lacquer over it) water gets under this lacquer and makes the polished part go white (called ‘white worm’) nothing you ca do about it, so providing they have done a decent job on them yours are now better than when they leave the factory.

(this was the main reason I chose the ‘Luna’s over the ‘Themisto’s)

Thks Martin for the clear explanation and pics too!

Top tip - use blutack so that they don't come off when you're driving and those with itchy fingers are discouraged when they try.
