  • It's taken me a week to read this thread after my own Superb purchase! I can only say how gutted I am you sold Audrey! It was like a soap opera I didn't want to end. What am I going to do tomorrow?!

  • That's one hell of an aerial on the back there!...

  • It's not an aerial; it's the pole that makes contact with the ceiling grid.

Thats wot the AA man used - but it had a swivel at the bend.

That is what I use (breaker bar) you have to be careful you do not over tighten the bolts though, so a torque wrench is better for the final bit of tightening.

Thks Martin.

Did think abt getting one.

Torque wrench only £14.99 at LIDL.

But not sure if i prefer Torque Wrench (more accurate)

Or Wheel Brace Socket Wrench - fills more natural.... ?

Anyway - i deffo need one of the above after struggling to remove

the flat tyre last night :-(

torque wrench is the tool for the job makes it easy to remove bolts and get them back to the correct torque setting.

Cheers Bill.

Can i ask where do u find the setting for the Torque Wrench for a particular car?

Thks.

Normally in the owners manual mate- mines in the glovebox and it's raining but might be different for the Superb to mine anyway. Your local dealer would ebe able to tell you what it is though (think mines 120 nM from memory). In the Octy manual it's tucked away somewhere obscure if I remember correctly- not in the wheel changing section!

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht141-1-2in-drive-torque-wrench

if the torque wrench is similar to this it'll be ok- if it's the type that the shaft bends and there's a gauge showing the n/m ft/lb by deflection stay away from them as they're rubbish.

As an observation you shouldn't be using a torque wrench to undo bolts, it's not designed for that purpose as to release the bolts it's likely you'll have to go past the setting you've set the wrench to (when it clicks at the chosen setting) and strain against the backstop.

cheers

Ade

P.S you've got a pedal missing :giggle:

I love the fact of an auto but don't like the reliability of them suppose the vw DSG is quite a sturdy box and like the fact of not having to change gears by yourself , but not for me i have never owned an Auto but driven a few donkeys years ago when i drove limos but they were dead slow to change gears, never drove a car with a dsg box though but according to the reviews they are nice to drive

I've only had my DSG for two weeks, but I don't think I'll ever be going back to a manual again. You simply don't notice it changing.

I wasn't critisizing the DSG's, just teasing Wayne a bit ;)

I haven't driven a DSG either (but wish I had because many owners rave about them) but have driven autos in the good old U.S. of A so I can appreciate the benefits - especially if you do a lot of commuting/get stuck in traffic as they are brilliant at avoiding the' left leg constant operating the clutch leg ache problems' I don't communte in my BL so decided not to have one but I bet they are great 'grabbing the next gear' when youre giving it the beans on an overtake.

Sorry Wayne if I've taken this off topic- hopefully ths post will get your OP back on track

Its ok guys.

Going a bit off course is fine - just shows how passionate and eager

we are to get involved in discussions :-)

Lol Ade!

U mean u actually have THREE legs?

Show off!

Size NEVER matters! :-)

Yes.

Its like the Torque Wrench in tht link.

I understand.

Normal Wheel Brace Socket Wrench to remove bolts and

put back on - but not tight.

Thn use Torque Wrench to tighten.

Cheers guys!

oh my god doesn't sound too good at all and I'm sure it wasn't you that done it so I'd go back to the dealer and get them to check it out. Maybe they didn't check the exterior due to the weather at the time but I'd go back to the dealer tomorrow and see what can be done

Learn from it.

NEVER drive with any snow on your car. Apart from being bloody dangerous...its illegal.

hear you go wayne page 222 in the manual

Have the

tightening torque checked with a torque wrench as soon as possible.

Steel and light alloy wheels must be tightened to a tightening torque of

120 Nm

Cripes mate,

I laughed like a drain at your 1st reply then was gutted when I read the 2nd. How deep are the scratches? if they haven't gone through the clear coat they might come out with a professional polish.

What was the dealer like? I'd ring them up forst to see what they say. If you don't get a positive response take some photos showing the scratches (put a ruler or something like that next to them so they have something to size them against) and email the sales person you bought it from and the sales manager with the photos stating that it was covered with snow on the test drive and was raining when you picked it up so it's reasonable that you were unable to inspect the car fully at the time of purchase and because of the distance were unable to see the car at any other time. If you have photos of when you picked it up in the rain that will help too.

Ask them what they are going to do because it's reasonable to expect that a car of this age at this pice would not have the damage you've found at was the first oportunity due to the weather since you picked it up. What did it say in the advert- did it mention condition. if they said it was good/excellent etc and all the scratches are not in the same place then you can argue reasonably that they were not done at the same time so must have been done prior to you buying it.

I feel for you yet again mate

Cheers Racing Boy.

Dont think there will be any comeback from dealer now :-(

My words against theirs and i m not even sure myself :-(((

I think i just have to swallow this one....

Cheers Mandp.

Yes it is illegal to drive with a unsecured roof load

- including snow.

Cheers Bill.

Will think abt the Torque Wrench.

Would b most handy whn i need to swop in/out summer/winter tyres :-)

Looks like you need some mat fixing clips there Wayne...

Sorry to hear about the roof.

Fraid Audrey is permanently scarred.

Its gone thru to white undercoat :-(

I ll try to dig out some photos of her and check original descriptions.

U know wot?

Every car i bought in the past i am very meticulous.

And always asked abt bodywork.

I even take a small magnet to see if bodywork has filler (repaired).

And any car over £10k i would get the AA / RAC inspection.

Not this time.

I think i just wanted the car so much - i just assume everything will be ok.

Fraid my heart completely ruled my head this time.

Blinded by love for Audrey!

I ll try to retrace my journey from Birmingham,

and try to figure out the chain of events...

I dont think i have any recourse from original dealer.

But would be miffed if it happened AFTER my test drive

or at Skoda Leeds...

...these are the only times potentially the scrape was caused (unless always there)...

Cheers Jake.

Mat came with fixing screws, but i cant seem to get the screws into the

tiny holes in the floor.

Anyone any tips?

  • Author

Just my luck.

Most dealers usual provide a physical inspection of cars.

Error 1. I failed to inspect the roof

Error 2. Black Horse didnt provide one

Error 3. Even Skoda Leeds neither too

Else at least it would b picked up by the above and can pin point whn it

happened :-(

well the only upside is that it is repairable but i doubt that the scrape was done when you where in ownership of the car, if it was on the side front or back maybe a bit more suspicions, but on the roof? i mean the superb is no double Decker so it must have been done by the previous owner or at the dealership so you should go back or phone up and enquire

Thks Racing Boy.

I can ask - but i will be very surprised if thy will be willing to throw money

at me and repair for free ( or even split the costs).

But i will enquire if thy noticed it or have a record of any inspection.

Cheers.

well it needs to be repaired, keep Audrey on top form they might just do that with the 50 50 split but they should hopefully be of some help

Racing boy has a point mate. All u can do is try and get something from the dealer. If you get nothing you're no worse off than you are now.that's not to mean hash mate, are the scratches new? Might be worth subtlely mentioning you came about their website via britskoda, I.e. the inference is you have a big audience to share your experience with good or bad. I know how u feel about blind love- I was like that with my 1st wife! Lol. Cost me more as well!!!!

Very nice motor and nice colour.
