Octavia VRS LTD EDITION 2.0 TSI BRAKE PADS

Featured Replies

Evening all,

The front and rear pads on my car are nearing the need for replacement.

I'm not a mad fast driver so I'm not really looking for anything fast road / track spec, just something that's gonna keep me out of a ditch and preferably not cover my ally's with dust.

The OEM pads have done me well, is it worth sticking to them, or does anyone know of anything cheaper / better?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Try ferrodo pad ive always used them and they are good quailty and last a while. Not too expensive either not 100% on cost for a octy as ive never bought them for this car.

ebc redstuff are a good upgrade

ebc redstuff give very little dust off and also provide slightly uprated braking.

there is a thread i have just been reading maybe 2nd page in someone priced up all the different options and there is a few posts about the different types

Have I missed something?. Aren't Redstuff 'fastroad' pads?. Thought the OP stated he didn't want fast road/track pads. I'll be a +1 on Ferodo. Put them (the premier ones) on my VRS last year and been very impressed with them.

ferodo ds performance-street, about £120 for the fronts. DS 2500, from europerformance £125 inc del

Any will be fine in that case. They have to be within 15 % performance of OE anyway so any will work perfectly satisfactorily. Personally I'd go with the cheapest branded ones I could find e.g Ferrodo, Mintex etc.

Do VAG do an in house OEM uprated pad?. I know from previously owning a Facelift Vectra B 2.5 GSi that the standard pad fitted to them were what they called 'police' spec pads. Dusty as hell, which didn't bother me but they worked so much better than the standard OEM pad.

EBC redstuff is fine as a normal road pad and produce less dust, and are perfectly fine from cold but provide that extra confidence when braking from motorway speeds, they are around £60 a set so not excessively expensive

op said he didnt really want a fast road pad , but he did say he wanted a pad which wouldnt cover his wheels in loads of dust, hence why i recommended ebc redstuff!

I'd suggest, Mintex, Ferodo, or EBC. They all make OEM quallity pads, however a slightly higher quality pad is always better for stopping. I used to use Mintex or Ferodo, but now only use EBC. They suit our driving style, produce less dust and are kinder to discs.

EBC's Redstuff are designed for cars with 200 BHP or more, so perfect for the vRS. I'd avoid DS2500, as there are legal issues using them (search the forum), plus are expensive and can be noisy.

In EBC's own words:

Most EBC Red Ceramic pads are approved to ECE R90 brake safety regulation

Just make sure which ever pads you choose are regulation 90 approved or you may run in to legal problems if you ever have an accident. That's if you're concerned about that of course.

I need new front pads my self actually

Was going to go for either:

EBC Redstuff

Tarox Strada

Mintex M1144

Graham...

Had Strada pads on my black Fabia, combined with OEM discs and they were really good.

No complaints from me.

Slightly worried about pad squeal when cold or at slow speeds

I recently replaced my j hook discs and pagid rs4 pads (on nqsbbk) with OEM discs and texter pads ( from ECP's using brisk25 code)and have to say the stopping power is about on par.....really pleased to be honest.....and WAY below half the price!

None at all with the Tarox Strada :)
