Hi all, has anyone fitted any gas lifters to their bonnet like VWs get? I've had a look round for kits, but they all seem a bit pricey/naff. Is there any easy way of adapting a golf lifter to fit at all?

Cheers!

Get One from superskoda like I did

Can't find them on the superskoda website now.

I've been looking at this mod and noticed Superskoda no longer list but Milotec still offer a kit, Product No. 62405, for 75 Euros (101 euros inc shipping)!

The extended bracket the kit includes is the plus factor as only one strut is used.

Alternatively, if one of the guys that has fitted this kit could pass on the strut dimensions.......!!?

in for results!

Nice one. I reckon a slimmed down bit of stainless angle section wound act as a good bracket to mount a ball to the existing bonnet hinge holes. Anyone got any other suggestions?

In the past i've read that it's pretty hit & miss as to getting the right combination of bits to avoid overstressing the lifter, getting the bolts to fit, not clipping and edge, etc. so if you've cracked it a guide or a few detailed pointers would be handy... :)

Once I get round to doing it (too cold now and have no garage!!) I'll be sure to get plenty of pics and a guide together.

Will do, I'll post some photos shortly, weather is foul at the moment so it will probably be a couple of days before I can get out to get some good photos, in case anyone looks at it and wonders about the durability, its been on 2.1/2 years and no problems.

I actually bought the ball joint screws from VW to ensure the correct fit.

Any joy with pics etc?

Looking to do this. ;)

I would also like to do this mod, I cringe every time I open the bonnet thinking I might drop the strut on the wing!! it may be a small niggle with such a good car but it's one I'd like to fix..

Mark.

Me too would be interested if it's not too much of a hassle to fit on.

Yes. Id like to do this mod as well.As Im not too adept at DIY Id really appreciate an idiots guide on what to do

You will need to strengthen the upper attachment as Milotec does. Otherwise it will bent the upper attachment and eventually the hood.

Had the Milotec part in my VRS and that worked well. Pricey but does the trick.

Otherwise a group buy at Superskoda to minimise the postage costs.

You can take a look at the milotec pages to see how it is attached and see how they strengthen the upper joint.

I'm interested in this too. I've tried to find the milotec kit but it doesn't look like they do it anymore. Not too keen on just sticking a golf strut on for the above reason.

Have you witnessed this to happen?

See post #4 re latest pricing from Milotec.

The Skud used a strut that was 730mm with a 310mm stroke and it appears to do the job. My brain hasn't enough cells left to calculate the force/ distance/ weight numbers when using the longer strut against the shorter job but it may be the better combination. http://www.sgs-engin...lculating-force

The overall closed length to fit on the existing mountings is around 300mm and although the guy in the film fitted one, I don't know what it is. For those that want to trawl http://www.cargasstr...e99e3f2bb763f1e

Nope, but i did change mine and the upper mount is easily bent (you have to bent this piece of metal so that it has 90 degrees).

And the force you need to compress the strut.

Two things that were reasons enough.
