New oil usage figures?

Featured Replies

All this really makes me wonder. I wish I could somehow see a comparison of costs to VW for three things:

1 - The cost of replacing so many engines under warranty.

2 - The cost of making the 1.4TSi engine Euro5 compliant properly, i.e. sorting out any issues before they let it go into production.

3 - The cost of EU fines if they had used the tried and tested (and reliable) Euro4 compliant version of that engine instead.

If cost No. 1 is lower than either No. 2 or 3, then clearly, VW is having a laugh at the expense of all their affected customers. And that would be a disgrace!

  • Seb, I spoke with Mitchells just last week about trade in of our Fabia, even with the oil usage that they dealt with I was offered a respectable 11,250 for a two year old Fabia VRS 2011 with 6,000 mil

  • Just because SKODA/VAG print something deep in a badly translated to English Owners manual does not mean that you have to listen to their cr4p. If they want to make out that their products might cost

  • Ring Skoda Customer Services  Tip: be nice and don't scream and shout it's amazing how helpful they are when treated like human beings

Contacted Skoda UK today and as expected, they have not revised the oil usage figures.

They advised me to contact my dealer for an oil consumption test, which I did, but I'm waiting to hear from the dealer because they need to contact Skoda to find out how to carry it out.

Hopefully that won't be too long!

Give it 3 days and then chase, if no response then back to SUK

MilgeS,

ask the Senior Tech if the Youngest Mechanic was at the loo or having a fag when they were talking about Oil Consumption tests,

Or if he was even where he said he was!

Do they communicate by Email with Skoda by any chance, no other vehicle that passed their way needed a Consumption Test?

george

Maybe it needs done differently now.

I wonder if your Garage can find a scales and a clean container.

& a digital camera...

So, from the above information, will they dismiss mine until it's covered another 2500 miles?

I wouldnt think so.

That was originally posted almost a year ago when Skoda were really pretending there was no issues.

Lots of Oil under the bridge since then.

There must be more recent Technical Advice & procedures than that.

If they are approving the Consumption test it is because they no longer can carry on with the 3 Monkeys line.

All the best with it.

george

Mine is currently using about 400ml between a tank and a quarter. That's about 300 miles for me

Mine is booked in for oil consumption test on March 6th, I'll update with results then. Thank again everyone, this forum is so helpful.

What im worried about is i bought my vRS second hand, however it was from a reputable company.

To see if i had oil issues i topped up my oil to the maximum level, since then i have covered 245 miles and would estimate i have used around 250ml of oil.

Do you think SUK will do something about this or am i on my own?

welcome to the forum.

What age of car with how many miles on it?

Where did you fill the oil up to, was it the top of the crosshatched area when the oil was hot?

Was it checked hot, then checked the same way when hot again.

george

its a 60 plate with 16,500 miles on the clock.

it was topped up to the top of the crosshatched area when hot and then checked again when it was hot.

When was it serviced and does it show what oil was used?

Has it had both the 10,000/1 year service and the 20,000/2 year Inspection service?

I would put a few miles on it and just see that the level does not drop too much.

Do not keep topping up until you see if that is the level it stays at.

but do not let it go too low tho.

You have a long enough Skoda Manufacturers Warranty left & i would hope you have a Warranty with the dealer you got it from.

george

It had been serviced at 5,000 and 15,000 miles both by the same skoda dealer however doesn't state which oil was used. But yes the second service was the inspection service.

I'll keep monitoring it, but I've been keeping a log in regards to mileage and estimated amounts of oil used.

I'm still in warranty with the dealer I purchased the car off, just hope skoda would oblige if a new engine was needed for example, but touch wood that won't happen!

Is there anyone on here that hasn't been hit by this terrible oil usage? seems strange that some are worse than others.

Lots with no oil problems and 30,000 plus even 40,000 plus miles.

Was yours possibly a Dealers Demonstrator that was serviced possibly at 5,000 miles.

Are you the 3rd registered keeper now.?

george

I see. In the Service book the details of the first keeper are in there stating she had taken dilvery of a new vehicle etc. so it's not a ex demonstrator vehicle, and the second keepers details are on the logbook.

Yeah it makes me the third registered keeper. I've got a feeling that the previous 2 keepers couldn't be bothered to try and chase SUK to fix the oil issue!

You could be right.

(the first keeper can show in a persons name even tho a Company owned, ie Demo car)

My daily drive was rejected by the first owner that had bought the ex demo & the engine was rebuilt before 5000 miles.

Uses no oil at 17,000 miles but did use a little up till 8,000 or so.

Call SKODA UK & ask if there was any Warranty work on your car already.

george

Just finished work so got my car up to temperature, got home and looked at the oil to see if there was anymore usage.

It now looks like mine had used approximately 750ml in 351 miles which is outrageous!

Really love this car but that can't be right!

Does not sound good really.

Were is the oil showing on your dipstick when the engine is cold and not been started?

This pic was taken earlier and oil level at the orange top marker. (3.6 litres of 5w 40)

After its been warmed up and then thrashed it will at the top of the cross hatch.

Tomorrow morning cold at the orange marker again. (hopefully!)

How it should be really.

george

You should only use 5w x30 not the 5w 40 , later only used for top up and not full oil change

Well if your oil being used is in the engine is fully synthetic 5 w 40, its the idea to top it up with that,

that is if you need to top up, which i do not.

If using the recommended 5w 30 as your oil, i would top up with what its filled with.

george

Bought loads at much cheapness of £6.99 a litre 'Home Bargains' and will be getting used for vRS oil changes for a while now when not using 5w 30.

The 5w 40 is Providing Good Lubrication, operating oil temperature, performance, fuel consumption & no engine failure.

But then not concerned about making a warranty claim so free to use what ever.

This is the stuff I bought bought from home bargain but mine runs on 5w 30 so all the ones I bought will now be used up in the arosa as that's 5w 40

Phoned the dealer today about my oil usage 3000 miles 4lts he said thats fine if it is still using as much after 7000 miles they will do an oil test because it takes that long for the engine to run in properly

Hi,

I've just rejected my VRS as I was having oil problems. I had a new engine, oil breather kit and nothing made a scrap of difference. I was using about a litre of oil every 600 miles. Mine was an ex demo with 2900 miles on it and I had problems within the first month on ownership. I have had an oil check since January 2012 every 600 miles (my local garage have been fantastic and I'd recommend anyone to use them). I've finally given up and am handing the car back in a few weeks as I can't afford the oil and petrol is consumes, not to mention trips to the garage every 600 miles. Skoda UK have been awful, so good luck with them. I did my checks and issues through my local garage as they were far better and actually knew what they were talking about. I don't want to put anyone off as I have read there are some good VRS's out there... I was just one of the unlucky ones.

Unlucky Vicky...Good luck

Had our engine replaced last month..Not used a drop since

@ George:..........There was no stress..no frantic calls to the dealer or SCS.no looking at different oil, no denial from the dealer or Skoda, no endless posts. No problems at all

The dealer did two oil checks...Said it was using too much oil, despite the Breather pipe fix done a month earlier and ordered a new engine

Engine was fitted in two days at a cost to Skoda of £3500

Simple and Solved!!
