EPC and TCS lights constantly on

Featured Replies

Could anyone kindly advise. Since yesterday the EPC and TCS lights have been on. My model is a Skoda Fabia 2 1.6 Petrol DSG version, bought and owned from new in June 2007. The car has just over 53,000 miles on the clock. We have always serviced it at the local Skoda dealership. I have noticed that several cars in the VG group have suffered from ESP problems, would this model be using the same parts?

I would appreciate any help/advice forum members could offer. I will take the car to the dealership on Monday, if anyone has had a similar issue it would be good to know. The car has run trouble free since new.

Thank you

Been to the Skoda dealer Elmiside at Elmers End this afternoon. The problem was caused by both brake lights blowing. Bulbs changed and fault cleared. They said It is a common problem.

Mark, welcome to the site. Sorry, don't think many people have seen your post to reply. My first thought when reading your post was that it would probably be something simple. Brakes light bulbs affect your dash fault readings, and of course it's turned out to be just that. I am glad you don't have to spend any dosh (apart from the bulbs). There are other things too that can cause that but mostly it's easy stuff on a car that's not very old. It should run for years yet without a problem.

As it happens, I am just buying the same/similar model as you. I currently have the diesel version of the estate. I bought it new nearly 5 years ago now and it's been completely troublefree. But time moves on and the auto box is a requirement for us now and after driving the 1.6 petrol Tiptonic Estate, I was very impressed. loads of power and very smooth. I'm willing to give up some diesel mpg's for the ease of driving and the fun an auto box can give.

Bye for now.

How are you doing with your mpg's in your everyday running around? Any info you can impart will be greatly appreciated.

Hello

Thank you for your reply and your welcome to the site. Thankfully the problem was cheaply fixed...

We love the Fabia 2. It hasn't been much trouble at all and coming up for 6 years old, just replacement of a front wheel barring is all it has cost us, apart from the dealer servicing. Regarding the MPG. Truthfully it isn't great. Living in London and doing a lot of short millage doesn't help of course we average about 30-35. On longer runs it can be up to 42ish, once i managed 50MPG on a slow trip to Essex. It is quite a big engine of course (1.6). It is a really great car to drive and doesn't seem to show much lag in setting off, the connivance of not having to change gear every 5 seconds more than makes up for the extra fuel cost.

Any other questions let me know. All the best

Mark

42 mpg regularly on my 1.6 petrol Fabia. 25 mile commute.

Thanks guys for the info regarding fuel economy. I'm expecting much less mpg with the 1.6, but as you say Mark, it can be worth it to have the ease of driving, and for me it's going to be a must have thing. One thing I noticed was the huge amount of low down power the engine has as she rips through the cogs in the box after take off. That surprised me and it felt almost diesel like with the amount of torque it had on tap! There is no doubt that auto tranny gives a different slant to the drive! All my life I've been a diesel driver, apart from my motorcycles, so this is a whole new experience for me going to petrol. It's slightly cheaper cost than diesel will help offset the lower mpg's so I'm not worried about that side of it too much.

As yet I don't have any car documents or manual for the car I will be getting. What oil do you guys put in at service and for topping up (if required)?

The car feels very powerful. But being a Skoda driver i mostly like to potter about. In fact i was thinking of getting a "the closer you get, the slower i go" window sticker made as most people seem to follow about 5 feet behind my bumper whilst i stick to the speed limits. :) I must confess, i have NEVER put any oil into the car. I (maybe mistakenly) think that if the oil was low i would get a warning light on and then obviously top up, i have never had a need to top up.

As i mentioned in my OP, we always get the car dealer serviced once a year, they change the oil when they see fit so i'm afraid i can't help. Do you have a local Skoda dealership? i'm sure they would help you find out what oil is good.

Hope you enjoy your new Skoda as much as we have, it really is a great car. I guess coming up for 6 years old it is time we thought about changing it but to be honest, it drives as good as the day we picked it up.
