Early Superb spec?

Featured Replies

Hi all sorry if this has already been covered I did look but could not find the answers

I have a 2011 170 SE estate for work and love it so much that I'm now looking at a Superb 170 elegance hatch for the family

but am looking at a pre 2010 car due to budget and have a few questions about the spec of early cars

I no some early cars where PD not CR is there a way to tell?

What age cars come with DLR?

Is there a way to make the Columbus sat nav full 7 digit?

Was there anything added or taken away from the early Superb's that came out

Thanks

Pre mid-2010 had only rSAP bluetooth support.

All 170 diesels are CR in Mk2 superb

All 140 diesels were PD before 2010

Map upgrade disc will add functionality to 7 digit post code

DRL - no idea, my 2010 has them.

Hope this helps!

But you'll need to upgrade the firmware to get the 7-digit postcode function.

I had a really early Superb 2 170CR Elegance, it was an ex demo from Oct 08 on a 58 plate. Between it and the new one I got just after Christmas there are only a few things different.

Enabling the DLRs just put the main headlights on at 80%.

The MFD didn't show time until next service unless it was due.

I upgraded the firmware and maps on Columbus to give me 7 digit postcode support

The Bluetooth was indeed RSAP only.

To put the main beam on you pushed the stalk away and it stayed there, until you wanted it off and then you pulled it back.

You couldn't keep the footwell lights on dim when driving.

Park Assist only worked in reverse, it wouldn't tell you to go forward and still steer for you.

No SMS on Columbus, but that could have been a firmware thing as I didn't upgrade again after 7 digit postcodes came out.

No Bluetooth music streaming to Columbus.

No Suggested Gear displayed on the MFD.

No Oil Temp in the MFD.

Can't think of anything else right now.

The Bluetooth was indeed RSAP only. What is RSAP?

Many thanks to everyone that's posted on this thread

Hi, my 2009 170 CR Eleg is being returned to VAG Group Leasing on 31 May, if anyone is interested, I'll gladly pass on details for you to make them an offer, it will have almost 90k on the clock. They quoted me £8,825 to purchase but I decided to go for a change. The columbus was replaced about 3 months ago and is now full 7 digit search, but still got the old rsap bluetooth, 4 new tyres last month but they will not do the cambelt!

Can you pm the details please

When I turned on the option for day light running lights rather than the bulb in the fog light housing coming on the main headlights came on at 80%.

I did the software upgrade myself, with information I found on here so it was free.

RSAP = Remote Sim Access Profile. Basically the car has a phone built in, when you get in the car virtually takes the Sim card from your phone and uses it. It gives you much better reception as it uses the car antenna, but not all phone support it. Most note worthy iPhones do not support it and so will not work with older cars. You can change the phone module for about £100 in 5 minutes.

Thank you all for the info if anyone has anything else to add it will be appreciated

Map upgrade disc doesn't allow for 7 digit postcodes in all cases. I've a Dec 08 car and it didn't work, needs a firmware upgrade I think

How can firmware upgrade be done?

Correct, upgrading to even the latest maps will not give you 7 digit postcode search if you have the old FW loaded.

Installing the updated FW is the same principle as updating the maps… burn it as slow as possible onto a quality CD / DVD and insert it into the head unit, once the FW is updated then you can update the maps.

  • Author

how much is it to update the firmware

Dealers will not do it, the only cost will be in burning the disc as you can legally download the FW.

AFAIK, the Shark-fin includes an amplifier for Navigation systems. It may well be the aerials are for non-sat-nav cars?

I don't think its that as I'm only looking at elegance models which has nav as standard

Yep, sorry forgot about the FM aerial, the early ones did indeed have it on the roof. It moved at some point to be part of the rear quarter light window I think, it has certainly gone from the roof. The shark fin is still up there for the sat nav.

My early 2009 elegance doesn't have a sat nav

I thought all elegance had sat nav

All UK ones do, but in other countries it was/is and option. Maybe Kilkenny is not in the UK or has an import?

No I am on the Mainland.
