iPod Connector in '06 VRS

Featured Replies

I've read several other threads about iPod connectors, but couldn't find the answer I need.

I've got a VRS on an 06 plate (Mk II) and I'm trying to figure out what audio capabilities it has. It's got a 6CD changer in the boot and the head unit says "STREAM" on it. There's also a cable in the armrest box with a triple adapter - iPod, USB and 3.5mm stereo jack.

Questions...

1. Will the CD changer support MP3 CDs? I read somewhere that it might but I've not tried it (I don't have any MP3 CDs and didn't want to go through the process of converting a load of M4A files just to test it).

2. Does the head unit CD player support MP3 CDs? Or does it need to say "STREAM MP3" for that to be the case - again, not tried it.

3. I can't seem to get the iPod connector to work. I plug in my iPod and start a song playing, but can't get it to play through the car stereo at all. There's no obvious button to press on the head unit. I've tried pressing the CD button a few times, but that just toggles between the built-in CD player and the CD changer.

4. Likewise with inserting a USB stick with MP3 files on - doesn't seem to do anything.

Thanks.

I may be wrong but im pretty damn sure the stream isn't ipod/aux compatible so I've no idea where those cables go?! Maybe the car was previously fitted with a Bolero or something else with an aux in? Same response for the mp3 cd compatibility... don't think the boggo stream is compatible.

You need the Stream MP3 as normal Stream isn't compatible.

in fact, does the cd changer work? you can get a cable that plugs into the cd changer socket which acts as a auxiliary in. maybe there's a cable for the ipod connection dangling free behind the head unit if the changer is working?

On the Stream MP3 there are 3 spare connectors which are Aux in but on the Stream there isn't. There won't be any spare wires or plugs to access.

@DaveyBoyWonder Yes, I assume that must be the case then, as the CD changer is working fine.

I thought I was just being a bit simple by not being able to get the iPod cable to work. If there's a strong likelihood that it's not even plugged in to anything behind the head unit, then that'll explain it.

Is the Stream MP3 the one to go for then, if that's the only functionality that I'd want above what the standard Stream does? Or is there another unit that's much better but not costing hundreds extra?

Thanks for the help so far, chaps.
