Redbull are going to be a bit ****ed although what else could they expect with all the times they have interpreted the rules in a favorable way to then be told to stop doing that.

Wow, impressed with Pirelli and Merc clout! Did not expect thant one really! At least fines should have benn on the agenda...

I just wonder who's pressure was more acute, Pirelli's or Merc's?

I have a sneaky suspicion it would have been Pirelli. Given that there is what, a month? left before next year's tyre compounds have to be confirmed, the FIA would be in a bit of a pickle if they punished Pirelli and find that Pirelli decline to sign a contract for next season.

I think you might be right...

Oh, it was showign 3333, I know, rather sad

That was a bit of a cop out. Shows FIA were partly guilty else they would have made Pirelli and Merc pay 50% each. Rules will be tightened up and will be business as usual. The only loser is Sam Bird the Merc test driver

If charlie hadn't basically said it was fine, Ross would have been hit hard and looking for a new job.

FIA will be adding to the rules frantically the to avoid a repeat.

Here is the Horse Whisperer's take on it:

Officially, Ferrari has never been in the habit of commenting on verdicts.

However, as you all know, the Horse Whisperer is a free spirit who sums up the mood of millions of fans, especially when certain incidents get him worked up.

Have you ever faced accusations in a tribunal? It’s never happened to the Whisperer thank goodness, but it can’t be pleasant. But today we learned, that even if one is guilty and in this case that is an indisputable and verified fact, there is always a way of muddling through as best one can. One only has to suggest to the judge what the penalty should be and even better, why not make it something light like a rap across the knuckles.

It is somewhat perplexing to say the least to see that the guilty party can get away virtually scot free for having derived “an unfair sporting advantage.” Don’t tell me that testing for three days on your own at the Catalunya circuit is the same as doing so with nine other teams at Silverstone with a host of young hopefuls at the wheel, in an area where the weather can still be changeable even in the height of summer. And what if this whole incident had taken place after the young drier test, what would have been the penalty then? Would they have been forbidden from holding an end of year dinner?

In one sense then, it’s a bit like when a ghost goal is scored against you and isn’t disallowed and then your opponents are incorrectly awarded a penalty, which has no effect on the result, incidents which both the English and the Germans ought to remember well, don’t you think? It’s not something that can be remedied with a penalty in the next game…

The way things are going in Formula 1 at the moment is becoming boring: you make a mistake, you race with an illegal component, but then you are told to just change it for the next race and we’ve seen what we’ve seen…

All this reminds the Whisperer that if he ever finds himself running a Formula 1 team in the near future and that he gets off to a difficult start to the season, then all it needs is to organise a nice week of testing at the right moment and then maybe have to skip a later session, by which time, everything could be done and dusted. What do you reckon?

PS: Oh, and to those who jabber on about transparency and credibility, the Whisperer would remind them that the rules are very clear: you cannot test with a car from the current year. With those that are at least two years old, you can run when you like, where you like, with any driver you like, dressed how you like, inviting who you like.

Cue everyone dusting off their old stock and going testing......

That's kind of an amusing view point considering it wasn't long ago Ferrari were in the dock for breaching clear sporting regulations (team orders) and their defence was: yes we did, it's a stupid rule. A view with which the FIA agreed!

Thought they'd already voted to return to in season testing from next year?

Meant for the rest of this year. And Ferrari have their own track, so very easy to muck about with a 2010 or 11 car and a few minor mods that could be fitted to the current car.

Oh look, we've found this wing just lying around, couldn't find one from that year......

Is anyone going to the British GP ?

A family friend who works for one of the teams is trying to score me a ticket.

looks like my ticket is confirmed

Is anyone else going who wants to try and meet up ?

If you buy me a ticket I can meet you up ;)

Ticket sales for Silverstone are slow in the build up, and for the first time they will sell tickets on the gate.

Doesn't surprise me. I love Silverstone. But it's so fecking expensive!

Aye. I've never been. Would love to go. But just can't justify (different issue to 'afford') the ticket prices. I find I get much better value for money as far as motorsport goes by watching the British Superbike comp. Wanted to go to the BTCC at Oulton Park as well but circumstances made that one a none starter :(

Le Mans was apparently really cheap. That's on my list just for the experience. Silverstone just can't be justified. If I could ever time it right I'd go to Suzuka so I could visit my cousin and see the GP with him

I just had a look. The cheapest General Admission ticket for Silverstone race day is £190.11. And then add on top of that £70.68 for parking.

I know a few people who've managed to grab cheap last minute tickets in the past, but how they came about those I've no idea as they were very canny on subjecet.

And that's without fuel there and back, accommodation, food when there. By all accounts the American GP was expensive too. A fan Will Buxton retweeted worked out it would be cheaper for her in America to fly to Spa and see the GP there then go to the one on her doorstep. Madness

Blame it on Bernie; the only money the actual circuits get from holding F1 is ticket money.

Same here Martyn - once my boys are older (only 7 at the min) I'm planning on going. Would love to take my Dad with us aswell but don't think we'll manage that now he's in his 70s :( Goodwood Festival is another on the list, I've done before but not with the kids

Bonkers. I've just priced for 2 adults, 2 kids and park & ride in the cheapest seats - £615 before anything else like food, drink, programmes etc. Like both you and Martyn it's not the afford bit I have a problem with but the "justification". It's gonna be close to £800 by the time the weekend is out. I've heard that Spa GP is cheap, I could probably do Spa and Le Man for that kind of money.

Also, let's be honest, Silverstone is hardly the best circuit in the world for facilities is it?

Unless you like a mud bath :D In comparison Goodwood handled most of their mud well. There was one muddy slope where you walked up to the top of the hill but all round the manufacturer displays were locking metal boards. Was run very well.

My neighbour goes whole family every year for 3 days camping. It's like a religious pilgrimage for them, no matter the costs.

I've been to Silverston GP once and that's it for me :). No Barcelona, Spa, Germany are on the list.

I am trying to get my brother in law to go to Goodwood, would be nice as he's a big fan of classics. I could take my son with us together as he's 10 now and loves cars :)

For £800 you can go for a week of budget hols in the sun - no contest ;)
