Knee jerk. Not much has changed really. Jean Todt worried he won't get re-elected as President? One idea was to reintroduce locking pins to the wheels like in the refuelling days. Would slow stops down and be safer.

  • I only hope it gets to the last race and Vettel needs Webber to stay behind him so Vettel can win his 4th World Title, only he's done too many laps on his tyres and they won't last to the end if he ha

Whilst it's amazing the car can be serviced in such a short amount of time, I think a fixed time stop would be good. Time to be safe and prepared, also leaves the racing to be done on the track ;)

Would save the teams some money too, no need to 'endlessly' practise to shave MS of times.

Also imagine how fun for the drivers to sit there for 5 seconds, 5 seconds would seem like an eternity I am sure.

Make it 10 so the mechs can be behind the lines for exit.

I do like the leMan style, only 2mechs at a time, oh + helper to polish glass :)

It needs to be something to encourage them to race. Although I think a few drivers/cars are now taking the race to the events, Kimi for one seems to be always charging.

Ultimately speed introduces risk of mistakes, we're human afterall.

I think pit stops should be more frequent and slower. That way the leaders can't gap the entire field pit and get out in front again. It makes it much more interested if they have to navigate back through the field passing back markers etc.

I think pit stops should be more frequent and slower.

Give the top 10 drivers laxitives 24 hrs prior to the race. That ought to do it.

s*** stop :D that's genius!

Yup, fixed minimum time stops.  That'd mix things up.  Say 8 seconds?

I do have my moments, but only when the wife isn't watching!

I'm sat at club watching the young driver test, Ricciardo just stacked the Red Bull lol. Good start.

That video was excellent - really made the hairs on my neck stand up!!!!

The GP the sound footage is from is Suzuka 1989 and it would decide the WDC. On lap 46, Prost and Senna collided at the final chicane, neither driver was giving an inch and they both went off the track. Prost abandoned his car but with nose damage, Senna restarted his and made a pit stop to change the front wing.

Senna came out the pits 5 seconds behind Alessandro Nannini and overhauled him within 2 laps to take victory. Following the race Senna was controversially disqualified for using the chicane's escape road to rejoin the circuit - Jean-Marie Balestre the FIA president made that decision!

As a result, Senna could not mathematicaly win the title and so Prost one. McLaren appealed the decision but the FIA upheld it and also added $100,000 fine and a suspended 6 month ban!!!

Ironically it was Nannini's only F1 victory.

Some of my best memories are watching early F1, Prost, Senna and Mansel. I don't think they will ever recapture those glory years. German Domination doesn't help things.

That was very well done by Honda. Jean Mare Balestre was, to be polite a ****. All because Prost was French. I like both drivers and both were fantastic. Massive respect for both as both when racing in different ways yet both successful. I don't think there's been anyone close to Senna's talent since. He use to talk about racing subconsciously. All drivers get into a zone and us mere mortals may do on a racing game but he was centimetres from guardrails rather than a foot or two. There was a F1 Architects program on SkyF1 with Max Mosely which was quite interesting. He speaks about Senna and that whole incident.

Like this Honda advert/ tribute to Senna.

Completely impractical and not realistic - but wouldn't it be nice if the FIA did this as a weekend prelude at all circuits during the 2014 season where they have data for Senna's laps available to mark the 20th anniversary year?

Didn't really see much of the race - probably last 20-30 mins on highlights but did see Grosjean upto no good again - he got the drive through penalty in the race when overtaking Massa but then got struck with another post race for the collision with Button.

Ferrari have also been fined 15,00 euros after Alonso "activated his DRS while not less than one second behind another competitor in the DRS zone". Although Ferrari have acknowledged that their DRS enabling system was not switched into its race setting and was left in a pre-race mode. The stewards determined Alonso had accrued a very small sporting advantage (less than one second across the race distance) but also accepted he had been correspondingly unable to use his DRS on every legitimate occasion.

Well done to Hamilton on the win, pity Alonso couldn't make up some ground on Vettel though.

Well, I more or less didn't see the Hunboringring race again.

One question though - Why are Farce (sic) India seemingly intent on screwing over Wee Paul?

Alonso is in trouble this year again. Ferrari's wind tunnel is raising is ugly head again and the pace has just gone. A superb drive from Hamilton to get his first race win, Kimi for holding Vettel off despite Vettel getting straight on the radio to whinge. He was asked on BBC would he like Alonso as a teammate and he said Kimi far too quickly then had to rush an answer saying something along the lines of Kimi has always been straight with me, etc. Laughed at his backtracking on the podium too and Kimi just laughing at him. if I was Vettel I wouldn't be wishing for Kimi to be my team mate and praying they get Ricciardo. Kimi came 2nd with one less set of tyres and made places. Vettel went backwards and used an extra set.

The only sticking point for me was Grosjean. On the whole I think he drove well and definitely looks like a man racing for his seat. The pass on Massa he got penalised for was harsh. Vettel and others regularly push and exceed track limits to gain advantage. You hear Brundle say "oh it doesn't matter because they didn't pass anyone." Of course it does! Every tenth you gain on a lap counts when catching someone. If you gain a few tenths a lap that's a lot of time by the end. FIA need to sort this out now. You see stewards following it up in BTCC all the time so why not here and it's so obvious!

Bad race for Force India with both cars out but Maldonado got Williams a point.

Alonso gets €15,000 fine for illegal use of DRS. Another silly mistake by Ferrari.

I don't see what Button gained from complaining about Grosjean either. Ok it was an incident but no more than that. Doesn't make him look any better than Vettel for moaning. Just take it on the chin and move on.The fastest Marussia was over a minute behind the Caterhams. Chilton is struggling but Bianchi isn't really a rookie compared to him. I can't see him being here long though. His brother Tom would probably be quicker. Feel sorry for Hulkenburg and it's a perfect example of the wrong move at the wrong time. Mclaren are improving but are still not good enough.

As for breakdowns and retirements I thought with the heat it would have been worse. When it's turbo engines next year I wonder how much the heat will affect the power outputs.

Either everyone else is finding new speed or Ferrari are really struggling - the latter I suspect, they really need to up their game to avoid yet another German WDC.

Kimi holding off Vettel, and him whinging - yet again another example of the fact that he can't race.

Kimi and Vettel in same team - Kimi would muller him and show him up, he'd better start praying to the RB Gods.

Despite his misdemeanours, Grosjean had a good race and would have been "on track" for a podium, but (quite rightly) he was penalised for going off track and well done to the stewards for applying the letter of the law. They need to clamp down on this now, and apply the penalties to avoid the drivers really starting to take liberties.

The pass on Massa he got penalised for was harsh.

Definitely harsh. But also definitely fair (providing similar incidents are consistently dealt with in the same way).

I do agree with the decision even though Massa was happy with the move. Grosjean wouldn't have done it if there had been a barrier or gravel trap there. It seemed harsh because he'd had such a good weekend. The Stewards have no consistency and there needs to be a regular driver steward. This weekend was Allan McNish who I've always liked. The rightly penalised for the off track pass and just gave a 20 sec race penalty for his Jenson incident. A penalty but not adding salt into the wounds.

One rule that's changed that will be interesting is the 10 place grid drop for any driver released without all 4 wheels on. Wonder if we'll see Ferrari paying Vettel's wheel men off :P

Alonso won't be staying at Ferrari. But there won't be room at RB for his tantrums.

I missed the race, first one this year due to being at the meet and typical its a good one! Watched it this morning, great to see Hamilton finally get a result for Merc. Kimi & Webber done well, Kimi is becoming a bit of a master at making the tyres last, would have been good to see webber catch Vettel. Good to see even though he was on fresher tyres Vettel couldnt pass Kimi :D Shame. :D

Button nearly got smashed off the road while Vettel was just trying a move that was never going to work on Kimi and had room/time to back out of it. Clear difference imo, one got a penalty and the other didnt so it seems the stewards agree. The problem with Vettel is he moans when he doesnt get his own way, so any little reason and he wants Horner to go running to Whiting. Just makes him look a ***** doing it all the time. Hilarious to see him back track on the podium over it, while I doubt Button was doing the same over Grosjean.

Having said that, I dont dislike Grosjean, the boy has talent, he just needs to harness it. His move on Massa while illegal was ballsy and if it'd been a few mm over a fantastic move of the day.

The last real tantrum I saw him pull was at Mclaren, I think he has matured massively over the years, especially at Ferrari. Plus tbh, if RBR put up with Vettel demanding the other driver lets him passed because he cant make the overtake himself then I'm sure they'd be able to live with Alonso. :D

Sure, but they were at the Hunboringring.

Mercedes-Benz has released the first audio of its new V6 turbo Formula 1 engine as preparations continue ahead of its race debut next year.

The lengthy clip, which is a full dyno lap of Monza that has been synchronised with video from Mercedes' simulator, provides the latest clue as to what the new generation of cars will sound like.

Sounds like the engine note is simulated too. :S
