Anyone know this car?

Featured Replies

I'm looking at buying a 2nd hand MK2 VRS at the moment. I've noticed on the car that it has a Shark sticker and from speaking to Shark they said its had a Stage 1 remap. I wondered if anyone on the forum recognises the car as a ex-members as they obviously looked at making changes to the car.

The car was traded into a main dealer who has then passed it onto the independant that I am looking to buy it from.

Looks like one of the first MkII vRS's with it's 17" Zeniths and green calipers.

Looks clean though.

It being traded into a main dealer would make me feel better, sounds like it's been a good'un if he's swapped it for another one. Probably bagged a deal and swapped his early MkII for one of the last!

They look like 18's to me???

I was going by the gap between the top of the tyre and the bodywork, it being on level ground too.

I can't get my hosepipe under the wheelarches on my vRS with 18's whereas I'd have plenty of space on this one :giggle:

Before lowering it, my vRS looked like a Scout, even lowered -30mm I can still get my hosepipe under the arch...... :p

Although not at the moment, as it's sitting in a body shop having a new wing, headlight and bumper fitted after I I let swmbo drive it in the snow last week!!! :@

Look 17s to me,car looks well in black

Definitely 18"

He never asked for wheel sizes lads come on.

Tidy looking motor.

Don't know whose it was though. Ask to look at the V5 and ring 118 - I have looked up and called previous owners, you sometimes find out about all the faults that made them trade it in as they don't have a vested interest any more.

There is a picture of the alloy (with tyre size) in the original ad.

It has climatronic, jumbo box/armrest and rear electric windows - so I wonder if they also upgraded the alloys?

The online tyre retailers suggest it came with 17's as standard, but mentions 18's were a cost option...

Get some metal polish on those tail pipes!!

One carefull lady owner drives like new ;)

It looks good enough to go and test drive. If you can look at the V5 while your there you can phone the previous owner for my details.

45.6 mpg  Dont expect to get any where near that. Its a 2.0 TFSI engine not the PD170

Think I looked at that car when I was looking for one, they had 2 or 3 VRS's at the time including the one I eventually purchased. It had 18's on when I looked at it, and was in pretty good condition just a few scuffs which are to be expected on a 7 year old car.

Just a word of caution their warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on and I ended up with a pretty large bill within 6 weeks or so of buying my car and they were not interested at all, and didn't return phone calls.

Incidentally mine was also traded into a main dealer before they got it and it wasn't until after I bought it that I did some digging ( on Briskoda as it happens) and found out it was traded in due to misfire issues that the dealer couldn't solve, and the previous owner having had nothing but issues with The car. Having said all that I couldn't prove that they knew any of that, and touch wood I've had no further issues in the 6k miles I've done since, but you live and you learn and I would definately recommend contacting previous owners before committing to anything.

Good bodywork nick for 7 yrs old, however that don't guarantee the engine has been looked after and maintained the same way. Judge book and cover.. Check, check, check and check again!

You wouldn't want to call me up over my previous VRs! Expletives would be ringing in your ears! Yet the new one from day one I can vouch for just about every mile so I could give you a warts and all on that one. Its part of the gamble buying second hand. Been stung 3 times before, reason we bought new so we could ensure History. Not every previous owner treats or cares for their car like you would hope you would like to think they would. You only have to see how some folk point their cars in the road aimlessly in the misguided hope that A. They have seen you. B. They aren't pssd or on mind bending tictacs. C. They may possibly be insured or then again not. D. That crashing into you may cause disruption to their status on Facebook. God Forbid... The list goes on......

End of the day it's a roll of the dice but try and trust gut instinct. Good Luck.

It's my old vrs. Definitely 18" and is indeed sharked. Pm me if you have any questions about it.

That's exactly what I did, got a 12 plate black estate petrol vrs.

Cam belts done at 60k, just had a new rear offside wheel bearing. Uses oil, but not as much as it first did when I bought it in 2010. I used 5w 40 which helped. There is also an intermittent issue with the turbo, which generated a p0299 code IIRC. The shark map was tweaked to overcome it, the RR measured it at 237bhp and 297lb/ft. No other problems with it, apart from the rear screen washer doesn't work.

More pics of the old one here.

If it has jumbo, climate and rear electric windows then it will have 18s since these were standard with those options at the time ( yes at that time they were optional extra). Without Climate, jumbo etc. would have had 17s as standard.

Thanks for all the replies.

Was meant to be going to see it today but after a last minute decision went to see a blue (my preferred colour) one yesterday which had only just appeared on auto trader. The trader had only just driven it to his showroom when we looked at it (i.e. 2 hours prior) and we went for it. The fact that he had another 5 calls for it while I was looking at it suggests I got a good deal :)

My car had all those options but was on 17's
