RNS 510 update from 1164

Featured Replies

Hello, i have rns 510 with SW-version 1164 and HW-version H11. Question is what is the latest version i could try to update to? The reason is this one doesn't read SD HC 8Gig card.

Also what version maps could be set upon newest available version to columbus?

Any chance to hang rns on update process?

I can't advise you on the software version but I believe that the latest maps are v9

Hope this helps

Go on to 'My GTI' website and read the threads about firmware updates to the RNS 510 and decide if you want to go through the process or not.

Yes, it may damage your HU. But only in a few cases: although nearly everyone has had a scare or two!

Maps v.9 = 7920, so your 6317 is very old (its v.3).

I believe the latest for mine rns would be 4020. Just a question, is it ok to go straight to that version or need to upgrade to some other version before? I mean do 4020 cope with all that hdd formating and partitioning or it only upgrades on already partitioned hdd? Any ideas?

4020 will re-partition your hard drive, so any maps and music will be lost. You don't say what your build year is, or your HU Revision letter, but it is probably safer for you to use firmware 38xx with a "B" HU than 40xx. You will get the re-partition with 38xx, so a new map loading will still be required.

I dont know if it will help, but its only the date of txt file. Don't see any revision numbers. (maybe its on a label, or seen in VCDS?):

That is not a problem if i loose everything, because going to upgrade maps too, no music yet.

You mean safer, in what kind of risk it is safer? Do i understand wrong if it would fail to upgrade i could always downgrade to lower version (ie. if 4020 fails, i can try run some latest 38xx CD?).

And also if anything goes wrong there is always SWL recovery CD! So chanses to break HU is minimum.

By the way if we started to talk about 38xx. Are there any noticeable differences to 4020?

My build year is 2008 and I have a "B" revision head unit. I tried upgrading the firmware to 40xx, but lost some functions. I reverted to firmware 38xx when I discovered that this was the latest firmware that could be used on "B" revision head units (without the firmware being specifically altered). I have had no problems whatsoever with firmware 38xx, which is why I recommended it over 40xx. Sorry for any confusion.

I have a 2010 3T0...A unit running 402x firmware (last upgraded from 38xx) and can't say I've noticed any loss of functions since upgrading.

What have you lost Ray and I'll take a look at mine?

I lost the on-screen clock and some elements of voice control, AFAIR.

Looking at the first picture posted by the OP, the HW Veh 0xC201 line shown would indicate that the OP has a revision B unit. This would be confirmed if HW Radio 0004 is also shown in the version info page.

Thats correct. I have radio 0004. So the revision would be B. conclusion - i will try to upgrade to 38xx. Thanks for help. Will report status.

2013 L&K HW version H09, SW version 5238, Map version 7918.

I contacted Skoda.uk on map version, informed that the latest genuine update is being finalised this month, and should be available in April.

If members are using the so called VW version 9 7920 of maps with speed cameras or version 7920 without speed cameras these are just a copy and are usually on a CD or DVD RW. If opened you will find alterations to the original program.

Grenuine Navteq / Skoda maps do not have speed cameras.

It is easy to install these as a POI on your hard disc, this method has been covered many times on the forum.

Might as well go for 40xx before you put maps and music on it...

The only advantage of the 4020 is the radiotext. So.. not so needed :)

Radio text? Not on mine...

When I went from 38xx to 40xx I did notice a slight improvement in speed & response as well as extra functions in the Sat Nav.

I admit its nothing amazing, but I had no issues doing it.

According to My GTI these are the actual improvements (no mention of radio text):

NEW Faster navigation and user interface

NEW Automatic illumination control

NEW Enhanced destination input

Hi, I have a MY10 Superb with a retrofitted RNS 510 with the same config as in the OP. 3T0 035 680  SW1164, HW11. Build June 10

This information was taken forn the labels on the unit as I cannot open the hidden menu.

It looks from the thread that Ver 3180 is the best to go for. My confusion is which version modified or not. I have seen on other sites that Version A,B & C require modified software or does that relate to other units.

There is a guy on ebay that is selling a Firmware disc + V9 Maps which I intent to use.

Any help would be greatfully received

Sorry above should read Version 3810, bit of a typo

With your Columbus you can go to 4020 firmware without issue. I've helped two people do this recently who had the same part number but lower firmware.

Yours is actually an 'A' revision of the Columbus.

Will give it a go, just hope I don't brick the unit.

Thanks

I have this unit HW H42, SW 3810, 3TO 035 680A. Tried 4020 the other day and it stopped at 42%. I downloaded the firmware from 2 different locations but it stopped at the same place 42%. Each time it meant I couldn`t use my RNS510, I thought I`d bricked it. Luckily though I could re-install my 3810 firmware using Josi`s recovery firmware, which for the moment I can`t find a link to but its on gpsunderground somewhere

ashfan: no reason why 4020 won't work.

Try burning the firmware again as slow as possible on a different media.

KBPhoto: Do I need the modified software with my unit or the standard.

Thanks
