RNS 510 update from 1164

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I hope I can bother you once more for another question:

Apart from my MFSW upgrade, the installed Columbus with recent maps I have the desire to upgrade to a good BT module.

I've seen plenty of intro's on how to do it, so I guess I'll be making a start soon.

However there is the question of which module to choose from, and currently I have my eye set on the 5N0035730C.

I've selected it because it has dual protocol functions --> BAP and DDP.

Will it correctly work after proper coding with my columbus and the O2 pFL? It has a function call rSAP which I am completely unfamiliar with, so if anyone can shed some light there it will be much appreciated!

Thanks again :)

Thanks!!

Arjan

It does work using DDP on the 02 pre FL maxidot.  It is RSAP only which means the car takes over the SIM car and becomes the handset, but this means you can only run it with certain handsets that support RSP (mainly Nokias, and Samsung S2/3/4 but not iPhones for example).  The Ross Tech wiki which says it also supports hands free portocol is incorrect.

Checking your phone compatibility is probably the most important thing when choosing a BT module.

Search this forum and check Skoda as there is an official (if limited) phone compatibility chart available on the Internet.

The premium modules require an additional aerial to be plugged into the BT module. This can be a short circuit board with plug, an antenna on a longer cable or a proper roof mounted antenna.

Okay reviewing the Phone Compatibilty now....

So what would the difference be between the standard and the premium models? I've retrofitted the Columbus, and also the BT module, which basically means I have no additional wires / antenna's anywhere.

I would want to have the functionality of having everything on the Maxidot and also on the Columbus....

Okay a lot of info on all boards, maybe it's better to ask for your advice then.

I only use Android based phones and will most likely never change to anything else. My current phone is a HTC One.

Which P/Ns should fit my needs? I'm sorry, but it is a long list on the Ross-Tech wiki, and really doesn't tell me what premium / standard / low / high would do.

Thanks!

Only Nokias and Samsungs work with the premium functionality out of the box. Other Androids need rooting I believe. This is rsap where the car takes over the sim.

Hands free protocol is limited in functionality but works with all phones.

There is no single module which does everything on a pre fl. You can either have rsap only which works with some phones and maxidot or hfp only which works with all phones but not maxidot. Streaming is not present on the older rsap modules either.

There is one sort of alternative which i am testing cuurently but its not quite working as hoped and not cheap either. See: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/299614-trying-a-fis-link-box-to-install-premium-bluetooth-in-prefl-octy-with-maxidot/#entry3588268

There is also difficulties getting the right module to integrate with Maxidot as well.

I believe you need one of the versions in the large metal boxes (and they are expensive).

Oh Wow!

That sounds like a terrible hunt with little to no gold at the end....

So if I'm correctly reading this, I would be best off with a HFP version and DDP. I'll understand that Maxidot integration is then not working, but will this unit be correctly talking to the Columbus?

I've heard of the fiscon option, but man---- these are 299,- Euro for the Basic-plus version. A little too much for just some BT addition nowadays....

Thanks!!

Arjan

Dont know much about fiscon but apparently it can be made to work, although its not oem. You can use a BAP one and it will talk to Columbus but it wont work with maxidot. The only ddp that does hfp is 1z0035729b but also v expensive.

5k0 d or above will be good and integrates with Columbus. There is someone selling one on here I noticed.

Check my signature for part number, but I have a relatively cheap Skoda BT module that integrates with my Columbus.

The only things it doesn't do is work with the Maxidot (not that I have it) and, for some reason, won't display the address book ordered by first name despite the option being available.

It doesn't need the extra aerial (although I have fitted one whilst fitting the GPS antenna) and works HFP only, so no text messages on the Columbus.

Hi,

Okay, just reviewed the 1Z0035729B and the ones that are available start at 300, so also a definite no-go.

What would you say regarding the 1K8-035-730 series? These are more readily available and show DDP protocal and A2DP music streaming...

I'll start checking out the prices for 5k0 series as well!

Thanks

Told you he 1Z0 metal boxes were expensive.

I have seen the right ones that do integrate with pre-FL Maxidot go for around £120-140, just the module, on eBay.

I can't remember which suffix revision does work properly though. Sorry. There is a thread on here somewhere that has the info.

Try eBay.de as they are sometimes on there as well.

5K0...D or later is the easiest option though.

Hi Guys!

I just bought the unit from SlavishSpace, and it will be sent here shortly!!

So just waiting on the module and after installing it and coding I will get back here with some results :)

Thanks again!

Hi All,

So in preparation of the delivery of the BT module I'll have to ask a few questions:

1. I will need to code the Module. Anything I need to take into account?

2. Will I need to code the Columbus also to support the BT module or is this working by default?

3. If I had to recode the current Head-Unit where my Navi is shown on the MaxiDot (Which is really really helpful) will that be untouched?

Any other things I might have missed that you guys ran into while retrofitting the module are greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

Arjan

As I recall coding of the module  is all that is required but it will probably work anyway without coding, albeit with the previous users settings.  Coding covers things like voice control, the way the phone book is displayed, some diagnostic features and the like.  You will though need to tick 77 in the CAN gateway (module 19).

You will need a loom with voice control and a mic to maximise functionality, and you won't lose nav in the maxidot.

Code CAN gateway to tell the car that BT is fitted.

Any other coding is optional and for setting it up how you want it.

Okay, good to hear my maxidot will still be showing the step-by-step route while My MP3 list is on the HU.

Loom (with voice control) and install plate/cover + Mic in the ambient-light space has been order on Monday, so hoping that will all go well.

CAN gateway install I'll do, and let's see what other options are available on the BT Module!

After that is successful I will do my next project, which is upgrading from PDC to OPS ;). The controller and CAN cable is already delivered!

Contemplating the climatronic upgrade also, but not digging the price difference in plastic covers:

1Z0858069ACBE9

~70 Euro

vs the original one:

1Z0858069A

Which has cost me 7,60 brand new from the dealer

3T0907044

The unit itself

~100 Euro

Maybe even with Air Quality sensor:

1K0907659
70 Euro

That would count me up to 240 euro + having fun on installing it - merely to have it displayed on the Columbus (and a better look, granted).

Currently very happy with the 1 minute button-off-mod by the way!

Yeah not all for a single month!!

Do it all in one hit.

Saves removing trim twice...

True if your pocket allows...

That's why I've had stock piles of stuff in my garage in the past (with another on building now).

I haven't the same level of patience, probably a good thing given I don't want the similar stockpiles...

Hi Guys,

Sorry to say I gave it my first try on getting into the CAN gateway.

Pulled apart the wiper assy (as my car is a 11-2007 model). Opened up the box and was expecting to see the gateway there...... Nothing :(

So made an effort in putting the stuff back on, and removed the glovebox now fully convince the gateway would be there.... again..... Nothing!

Now I do see some remarks of tapping into the Xenon gateway, but I have no idea where that is or how it looks.

I Hope you guys can help me out as it's been a frustrating and unproductive day so far!!

My gateway is an L by the way.

Thanks,

Arjan
