Looking at coming back to Skoda, quick question?

Featured Replies

Since I had my VRS stolen a few years back I have been very happy with my Leon FR 2.0 TDi 170 BTCC. We are looking at getting a car for the wife to use, she also loved the VRS when we used to have it. She is only going to be doing mainly short journeys, her current 2010 Seat Ibiza 1.6 TDi CR is not the best for economy and also needs to have the odd blast to keep the DPF clear. I remember back to my VRS I used to achieve around 50mpg when blasting around no problem.

I'm hoping to find a VRS under 45k miles which are rare but possible, hopefully an SE. Anyway, as its been a few years, what does it cost to fill up the VRS these days and how many miles do you get from a tank/MPG?

Thanks

I usually put near on £70 into mine using the expansion part of the tank too and easily get 600 miles doing nearly all motorway driving between 70-80

The Mk1 vRS has a tank capacity of 45 litres and should comfortably get high 40's mpg round town and much better on a long run.

We used to get 450 to 500 miles to a tank in circumstances like yours but my missus has a heavy right foot. :)

At current prices you'll be looking at about £65 to fill it to the brim.

I wouldn't recommend a vrs for short journeys. You'd be much better buying a small engined na petrol.

Agree with that they're not best for cold starts and short journeys. I get 30 if I just use it to pop to the shops etc but I travel all over the country for my job so makes up for it on the motorway

I assume that the Ibiza is the 105bhp model? If it isn't good for economy then a car which weighs roughly the same with 25 more bhp isn't gonna put any savings your way!

I thought that, the Ibiza does seem to be very poor on economy, but I remember the VRS being good. I guess it will be sensible to look down the 1.2 petrol option.

If you're doing short town journeys then they're not but doing a longish drive you get 50mpg+

Diesel and short journeys/low mileage? This is getting to be like the glove box switch question :(

Seriously just buy a small petrol, the published mpg will be lower but you'll actually stand a reasonable chance of achieving it unlike a diesel which as she's already got one and found out is only really economical for longer runs. Switching from one diesel to a bigger car with a more powerful engine will not save you anything at all. As to the DPF comment it's easily remedied by either using the car as intended or removing it. Both options are a lot cheaper than the option of selling it and buying a VRS.
