Chrome Trim on the Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

I think the Chrome Trim on the Steering Wheel on the Superb looks really good, and I want it for my Fabia 2, and WITHOUT swapping the airbag (money), if swapping is even possible :) . You know - like this:

I have searched on Ebay, but I can't find one, and I have thought about trying to make one myself.

I am the only one? :D . Help?

But I am not even sure that it is okay to glue a Trim on the Wheel yourself. I mean... there is a bomb underneath. I guess it has to be made of a soft material.

I don't think you read the last bit of my first post.

You can buy genuine airbag covers on eBay with no airbag.

No idea if your current airbag would fit inside it or whether it would fit your wheel.

And they are expensive...

Is it easy to swap an airbag? Can I do it myself, and does it affect the warranty?

You can easily do it yourself.

It may affect the warranty - if they will find out that the airbag was replaced / eg. for the superb one/. But they will have to proove it. If so - you will loose the warranty only for the airbags.

YOu can also do it via your dealer - and keep the warranty - but ask them first if they will do so.

Again - thank you very much :-) . I think I'll ask my Dealer. If I get it installed I'll post a photo in this thread.

I have now ordered a cover alone (without airbag) on Ebay, and my Dealer has agreed to install it.

I hope it won't take too much time to install it. Do you have to remove the steering wheel?

I quite like that also bud. The airbag should come off to get to the nut that keeps the steering wheel on so no they shoudnt have to take the whole steering wheel off. To be honest i wouldnt think it would take very long to do. There will probably ony be 2 bolts/screws keeping the airbag unit on.

Okay, sounds good :) . Yeah, it looks good - and not that expensive. I ordered it here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-II-SUPERB-II-ROOMSTER-AIRBAG-COVER-BRAND-NEW-/121073703698?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D6842030625247521300%26pid%r3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D121073703698%26

About £52,- with postage to Denmark included. I hope it won't be expensive to install - but from what you tell me it doesn't sound like it :) .

It would be no good for mine bud as i have a mk1 octavia vrs. sounds like you have getting a good deal. Should have asked your dealer how to supply and fit one. In my opinion it shouldnt take them any longer than an hour to do it. There will probably only be 4 small bolts/screws keeping the cover on too. Dont hold me to this though as i could be totally wrong.

I did ask my Dealer, but it wasn't possible for them to get me one without an airbag. I don't know why. But if they could get me one it would probably cost me more anyhow.

Probably due to greed! yer thats true, probably double!

Perhaps, but I don't think so. They have always treated me very well and given me more service than they had to. I have no reason not to trust them.

nope. It fits without removing the steering wheel. Should take no longer than 20 - 30 minutes.

Glad to hear it :)

I liked these too but not paying to swap!

I got the cover two days ago, but unfortunately it had a scratch, so I am going to return it and get another one.

A man. :'(

I got a new cover in perfect condition today, so now I just need to get it installed. It will be this week or the next.

Can you post pictures of the before and after, please?

And any you can get of the fixings behind the airbag.

Thank you.
