HET1 the YETI?..... Maybe not.

Featured Replies

Having bought the Yeti for my wife just over 2 weeks ago now she has declared she now loves the car in all respects bar 1. Being a bit of a superstitious soul she still has reservations about having the 13 plate on the vehicle.

The obvious way round this would be to buy a personalised plate, so I thought long and hard about what would work well and came up with HET1. That seemed to be a good idea until I looked on line for availability. Yes it is available if you have the odd £25,000 to spare.

13 plate not so bad now is it dear? Anyone else got good plates or names for their pride and joy?

I suggest you look up some posts from Bossfox......I think he has the ultimate

Personally I have 2 plates...3 numbers and my initials and another that spells my surname without any bad spacing or extra bolts. To most people its just an ordinary plate but to me its special and that suits me.

Or you could up sticks and come and live on the isle Of Man.No year designation and no MOT. If you are a fan of the Red half of Manchester you can get a MAN *** U reg.

Look in the Yeti Project section at The Twins thread.

Sent using whatever device I'm using at the time.

Don't think of it as unlucky, think of it as a bakers dozen. ;)

Ha just had a look.

I did try YET1 and saw it was unavailable. I wandered if perhaps it was a Yeti owner who had it. Quite a project that, nice one.

I went the less expensive route and changed my name by deed poll to CS211DY, now I have a free personalised registration number!

How are we pronouncing that....castoooneonedy?

You may be - but I don't think I'll even try! :whew:

CS for short...

S1 YET is available for £499 on DVLA. Quite a few more reasonable plates for £250

What about YE 71?

Andy

How does it work buying a private reg from dvla for a new ordered vehicle?

Do you just let the dealer know what your reg is going to be?

What DVLA sell you is a certificate which you give the dealer who then uses it to register the vehicle.

It was available for several years, but some idiot bought it December just gone.

YE13TTE is available from DVLA for £399

Sorry to BossFox (et al) but the daftest thing (in my book) you can do is spend money on something that spells out the name or make of the car you're driving. Like as if you will be driving a Yeti or 911 or whatever for the rest of your life... Your name on there? Dafter still for when you want to go rob a bank ( :giggle: ) - but at least it makes sense when you move it onto the next car. Putting YETIYAY on your new Jaguar will look really silly.

Just buy the cheapest old style one you can find that remotely has your initials in it or your house number or whatever. Mine has nothing to do with my car but has the first letter of my name and the month and day I was born in. And I paid the princely sum of £250 for it. I like it since it looks pretty (and it looks as if it is spelling something else from a distance (clue is in my profile name!), whilst still being totally legally spaced) Thus it hides the age of my car, so that if washed, it still looks as if it was bought yesterday (thanks for delaying the facelift Škoda!)

We tend to let the dealer register it as normal and transfer the plate on later. When we sell then beforehand the plate is put on retention.

Both my wife and son have cherished plates, in my lads case it's in homage to his favourite si-fi character D*** **O; a blue Fabia we refer to as the TARDIS after said characters mode of transport ;)

There are quite a few who have personalised plates, but we are not as bad as mini drivers, cant recall the last time I saw one with a "proper" plate. Mine is our first name initials / year of reg / and YTY - which wont look totally daft if we ever transferred it to another vehicle.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH. I Hate personalised number plates !!!. Not popular comment....but I dont care.

I'm with you, way too "Golf Club" for me I'm afraid.......

It's a good job we are all different. :)

For me it's a harmless/fun way to personalise a vehicle a little without losing a lot of money.

If you spend it on a better car, you probably lose 50% in three years. 80% in eight years.

If you spend it on nice wheels or other add ons, they are probably worth less than half after three years. Nothing after eight years.

I've got several and if the money was needed, they'd go.

Generally they retain value quite well. Some I've had/got have ended up going up in value by a reasonable amount. Some lose a bit.

While I'm not a fan of cheap £59 specials that make no sense at all, it takes all sorts.

There is a Yeti round here (not one of ours) with SK0*YTY, * being a number.

OK it probably only cost the owner £300 or so. But I like it.

My wife uses her Yeti for about 2k-3k miles per year and wants to keep it for 10 years to get the value out of it.

Guess where the YET1 plate is going when I change my car for something else! :D

While also car specific I've already had two offers for my 3GTR plate.

Both at more than I paid last year.

Can't complain at that, could have bought a Range Rover instead and lost over double the plate value in the first year.

Sheila said we should have kept the reg from the last Freelander as it began with SD, her initials.

Tend to agree with Johann, I have had this plate since 1965 taken from my first vehicle I owned a 1958 Ford Anglia 100E, and switched to so many cars over the years. It means nothing and apart from memories and an instant recall of remembering your reg. number easily.

And yet you bought extra chrome bits for the car to personalise it.

Money you won't see back come resale time.

I'm not sure we are all really that different. ;)
