Keyfob hunt!

Featured Replies

Where's the best place to get a Keyfob other than the huge price quoted from the dealers?!

My e-bay search yields many many keyfobs which turn out to be just cases where the electronics fit! I've got a spare key but I lost the electronics to go with it so I just need the fob!

Any ideas folks?

Assuming your spare has the transponder then buy any VAG used keyfob, follow instructions in manual on syncing key.

eBay, I used a vendor called keyservice(s)? He's not always on eBay though....

If you split your "primary" keyfob the alarm/buttons bit will have a part code on it, barely visible, along the join. Get a new one with the same code.

HTH

EDIT: oh yeah, was £20-£22 delivered ISTR...

Cheers for the tips people I've hopefully got one that will work from ebay for 16 quid..we shall see!

Doesn't even need to be the same part, my Octavia fob has so far worked on the Leon, Audi and Golf. Swapping over the transponder is fiddly but now I use hot glue so it's easy each time we change cars.

I had 1 from a polo but that wouldnt work on my skoda

 Hi All,

New (to me ) car being collected tomorrow.  Octavia 1.6tdi CR estate, elegance spec.

However - only one Key.  Dealer Price seems to be over £150 !!!

Hoping someone here will know if this will this work ?? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/How-To-Program-Reprogram-Your-Audi-Remote-Key-Fob-A4-/10000000010293524/g.html

If I buy one of these .. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-Key-with-HAA-key-blade-and-ID-48-Can-Transponder-Fast-Post-/150976286853?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2326e35085

Seems to make sense, but am I missing something... can a  £10 - £15 fob and a simple procedure really replace a £150+ dealer purchase??

I think that should work looking at those instructions, thats what I did with a second hand flip key.

Two (or three) apparently simple procedures....

1) Cut the key blade to shape so it can start the car.

2) Pair the alarm

3) Pair the transponder to the immobiliser.

Can get keys supplied pre-cut if you've got the code off your current key or if you send a piccie. The immobiliser bit requires minor capital expenditure for the kit and software to do the job. Some members have the capability, as do some VAG friendly independent garages.

Check the group buy section. There's a guy with a mobile business who offers a great service on supplying, cutting and programming.

I got mine done through the group buy

As Dark_Hero has said, it's his job cutting keys and travels around. If there is a few people in your area getting keys cut you split the fuel costs.

Another happy "actionman" customer mentioned above :)

That programming guide is only for the remote locking which the keys you have linked do not have. If you buy one of those keys you will have to go to a locksmith and get the blank cut and the immobilizer chip programed so the car will start.

A locksmith might be able to set you up with a second remote locking key for the same price as the dealer will charge you for a normal key

that would be me :)

it does have to be the correct part number! Octavia, Leon & Golfs if of the correct year range all use the same part number remote. For example a 2001-04 Oct uses the same part number remote as a facelift mk1 2002-06 Leon or facelift mk4 2002-04 Golf. Then a 2004-08 Oct uses same remote as a mk2 2005-09 Leon & mk5 2004-09 Golf.

There's about a dozen or so different VAG remotes that look the same but aren't cross compatible. I mainly do VAG keys, last year with all the group buys i did through other forums & groups I easily did 250+ VAG keys. I always have loads in stock & i've tried using different part number remotes with different cars to see if any are compatible so i don't have to have loads of different remotes in stock.

Audi have their own part number & aren't compatible with Skoda, Seat or VW.

Got a new Key via Craig this weekend - top guy.  Friendly and knows his stuff - if  you need a new key, would recommned him 100%.

Also - Craig has sent me a text to ask I put a message here confirming he IS still coming up to Scotland as arranged - but has lost his internet access during a house-move, in case anyone has sent a message via his website.
