Good to know..Thanks

What did you dislike about karcher Chris?

  • Author

Just the qualityof it

Its been a great washer over the last 3 years but its time to move on

Nilfisk are better made ..I'm hoping it will last longer

Is it " Alan " proof Chris? :giggle:

I was also looking at the same one. The cheapest I could find it, was £180 delivered. In the end I bought the nilfisk centennial from homebase , it was meant to be £100, but they had 20% off, so I had it for £80. The do the e140 washer, but I think you have to order it in. Hope this is any help,

George

Did exactly the same last weekend, now just got to get the snow foam!

Great for mud under wheel arches and for lightly spraying bodywork I would avoid too much pressure on the body as it can scratch it. I've never used a car wash always hand wash but noticed after a couple of sprays with a jet washer it was starting to look a bit cob webby so had to polish with a swirl remover, I'm sure the jet wash had a lot to do with it.

:wait: .......Ive been using a pressure washer for many years and never has one ever scratched the paintwork

Its handwashing without a prewash regime and one bucket/sponge that is swirling your paint NOT a pressure washer

Had the same model (E140.2-9 S X-TRA) for nearly a year trouble free!

Its used every week on the motor and has worked a treat on the block paved drive.

This is my second Nilfisk (gave it to dad) after having a Karcher(lasted 14 months) Aldi special (3 years) and a Basic Kranzle which is heavy, noisey and far to powerful (in garage).

The Nilfisk to me is the best compromise for power, portability and price.

The lance hose is a bit of a pain when your winding it in on the reel especially in winter when it wants to crease/kink every couple of feet other than that its a goodun!

Nice to know I made a good purchase. Thanks

its also the way a vehicle is dried that also inflicts damage

dried? Is that what the sun / wind does? :D

I always use a Premium Microfibre drying towel..that minimises any chance of inflicting scratches

(Chemical Guys Wooly Mammoth Drying Towel.....The best I have ever used))

I would never use a Chamois leather or a harsher MF , as that will scratch paintwork eventually

Todays acrylic water based paints are much softer than the previous generation cellulose based laquers and so require a more gently gently approach to cleaning

Unfortunately, some manufacturers still appear tp ignore this and will happily sell you a leather and sponge!!

But strange it only happened after I used a pressure washer, and never on any of my previous cars, which have all been hands washed from new. So gritty mud blasted across the car at high power won't damage the paint I think not!

Ok ......you didnt mention gritty mud....my....

My car never gets that dirty or any ones I have detailed

Always run a low pressure stream of water on thick mud, then use on high power afterwards in that case

Do you live up a muddy lane?

I read comments on a site known as DW and subsequently bought a Nilfisk. Good buy at just under £60 and would happily recommend them to anyone.

I am getting more and more tempted in buying a pressure washer. I know it's against some recommendations, but I was thinking of going for a Yellow and black one. This one http://www.cleanstor...uct.asp?ID=7696 It seams to do to what I want. It's under £200 and being compact, should fit into our small shed.

I am planning to buy it from a shop, so if I do have a problem I can easily take it back. I wonder if places like Homebase or B&Q can price match the above price.

The only concern if I bought a Nilfisk is from a review I read. He said, it broke down, took it to be repaired, to be told there are no serviceable parts on Nilfisc machines. I have no idea how true this really is. See: http://www.reviewcen...-review_1895699 and http://www.reviewcen...view718480.html

I have a kew alto, which is now nilfisk and have replaced both the microswitch and pressure relief valve, so spares are available for mine. Try putting the model number you're interested in in google and see if it finds anything spares wise.

I always get mine from Karcher Outlet. Yes there refurbed as in someone bought it a didn't like it or a part broke, but they are all retested and come with either six months or extended to 12 month guarantee.

There is the same one your looking at and a same spec model on the site.

The one your looking at is £147.99 and the same spec (but different model) one is £114.99 in sale from £155.99.

It isn't the same spec as it doesn't come with the 'T-racer' patio cleaner thing. That's an extra £35. Plus new Karchers come with a 3 year warranty.

I've just seen B&Q are selling that one I wanted for £190 (20% off their normal price) so might go for it.

I've never had need of the patio cleaner, which is okay if your going to use it so didn't think about it. My bad.

As for the guarantee, I've never had to use it, but for extended piece of mind I guess it's a good thing.
