Poor Dealer Experience

Recommended Posts

I picked up my new Scout today and have to say I am really pleased with the car. I am however less than pleased with the dealership. Having told me it had Sat Nav and Bluetooth (see http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/275391-help/ ) only to discover on handover that it hadn't, I've got it home, washed it and dried it (it was pouring down when I picked it up and the car was outside) to find the car is covered in glue, no doubt where the protective sheets have been held on.

I suspect all the dealership has done is jet wash it with detergent and leave it at that as there was no beading of water on the surfaces. I've just spent the last 3 hours going all round the car and getting the glue off ready for a good polish tomorrow. I have never had such a badly prepared car and I am just glad I didn't take them up on their offer to polish it for £399!!

Great car, cr@p dealer!

So the dealer misinformed you about the spec of the car before you agreed on the sale price?

When you picked up the car you noticed that they'd got it wrong?

It is at this point you need to negotiate a partial refund or agree for them to retrofit the two features at their cost.

Either way I'd be making a formal complaint about this and the condition of the paintwork to the branch manager followed up by a call to Skoda UK Customer Services (08457 745745 - option 4), they love to hear when dealers get it wrong.

Dealers are sweet until they get your money, and the farewell. I picked up mine a week ago its 6 years old i know shouldnt be that picky but i am. Anyway, the dealers were great ish until we closed the deal. After that i raised few isues via email, guess what havent heard since. Will be giving them another week and then Skoda customer service here i come. Basically i didnt notice that car sealing cover was quite dirty at the back, and saw some blood stains i think, havent cleaned yet just took some picks and emailed asking for some refund towards cleaning costs. Hmmm silence........

Thanks for the PM, I've just replied.

I was still at the dealers when I discovered the spec had been incorrectly given so we came to an agreement although now I think I may have been to hasty having seen the cost of adding the options.

There was no way I was paying £399 for a bit of polish to be slapped on by some yoof on an apprenticeship scheme, I wouldn't have given them £150 as in my experience you get a better result by buying some quality stuff yourself and spending a good day getting a few coats on. Admittedly I am a bit OCD when it comes to cleaning cars but I do think I do a better job than any dealership would do.

Thanks for the Skoda Customer services number, I'll give them a buzz on Monday together with an email to the dealer principal.

To quote Web Ferret, why can't the dealers be as good as the cars?!

darius 28, I would have thought on a six year old motor that you don't stand a chance of getting things cleaned unless this was pointed out and agreed prior to the deal being sealed

Regards all

I think they would have cleaned it if i would have taken that lifetime shine **** for £400 lol. When i bought a different car a year ago with similar option, the car was immaculate as brand new being a 6 year old, so it makes me think i still have got a tiny chance.

That's the same cr@p I was offered, how they can ever say it's a lifetime shine I do not know! I think that's their attitude, if you pay us £400 we'll clean it, if not you can make do with a jet wash! £400 in their dreams, together with the other 2 £399 options - tyre insurance and gap insurance. Thanks, but no thanks!

Id have probably rejected the car myself; the dealer systems tell them exactly what spec stock cars have on them when they go through the process of allocating them with SUK; they've either accidentally allocated the wrong car in the right colour or they knew all along it didnt have nav and bluetooth but sold it you anyway on that pretense.

No disrespect intended but are you certain you havent misread the spec somehow, something lost in translation between you and the dealer perhaps? I get the impression most of the last run of Octavias in general were more or less built to base spec, just in different colours with choice of transmissions and any dealer worth their salt should know the models they are selling and what the spec should be on it.

I did think about rejecting it but having spent 3 days last weekend trying to buy a car, I was losing the will to live at the prospect of going through it again. Added to that my trade in needs a service and MOT on the 20th of the month which I got away with on this deal but might struggle with as it gets closer, plus I'd taken a day off work etc etc I gave in and took it. Ad attached, you can clearly see at the bottom of the spec Sat Nav and Bluetooth. I'm more inclined to think they knew all along, as when I asked about it last weekend he was quite vague which was why I made a point of checking it today.

lifetime shine don't even exist, this is call Lets rip us off!!! I use to work to Assured Valeting clining company for 12 years and I know what I talking about. The bag with that polishes cost 28 quid, we sell for a dealers £80 and dealer charge us £400, stupid. Valeters from Eastern Europe or Africa even don't know how to apply those three stages of polish. My God

Those adverts are always rubbish, half the time spec is missing from them but you have it the wrong way around, if you have agreed a deal on that and you are happy then thats fine.

I collected my wife's new car yesterday, and usually I dont allow the dealer to clean it from new, apart from removing teh covers to check for damage, but on this occasioan purely as I have loads on at the moment I allowed them to clean, my dealer knows my fussiness and to be fair they have done a fairly good job, no wash damage as such, yes it was given a quick coat of Aitoglym SRP and some TFR to remove the glue and a bit of tyre black and that was about it but for presentation to my wife it was perfectly fine, I will do it properly in a few weeks time. But it sounds to me like your place has really done the minimum of work or even less, there shouldnt be glue on it still, but, generally sounds like you have had a bad experinece and thats a shame as buying a new car is all about enjoyment and its always a shame when you feel disappointed.

when I agreed a time to collect my Blackline up they said they had to prep it and detail it 1st so I though OK, I'll wait and drive off in a spotless shiny motor but got a shock when I saw it!! it looked better when it was say on the forecourt a week earlier :wall: and I'm glad I turned down the protection package although it will effect the trade in value at some point :notme:

if you want a good job doing do it yourself, that's what I always say and it's true.

If you look on the Skoda Used Car web site it states that all Fabia MII Vrs's have " Auto Dimming Interior Mirror ", but they don't

Looks like a standard Spec sheet of what you " Can " have

Don't think the DSG Gear Box is " Semi Auto " either

I guess it isnt the end of the world really and gather you negotiated a slight futher discount on the car to compensate.

The built in nav and BT is a nice to have but really not essential; the Bolero is a nice HU anyway with 6 CD and SD capabilities and at least you still have the touchscreen.

Factory BT isnt impossible to fit in any case and if you so wanted to you could fit an Amundsen/Columbus and BT at a later date yourself or get a specialist to do it for nit huge sums of cash.

Anyway nothing wrong with popping a decent Tom Tom or Garmin in, debatably better nav devices anyway. The factory systems look great and add a dimension to the sophistication of the interior but I wouldnt say they are that brilliant at yhe navigation part. I've got Amunsden + and BT on mine but it came as factory fit equipment (BT sort of did anyway!) but id probably not have paid for it if it were an option.

Why do you think it will affect the value?

Why do you think it will affect the value?

when they were giving me a trade in quote for my old Audi QS they asked if it had been given any paintwork protection system from new, I just laughed at the salesman when he ticked the "no" box, he knew fine well it was probably the best example of it's kind on the road! I just went along with their silly games as I was going to sell private anyway..

I used to be a sales exec, if they ask you have you got it just say yes and it's crap and you wouldn't waste your money on it. It makes no difference to your trade value.

I also agree that it's a **** product. I sold loads of the stuff. Easy way for the dealer to add £350 profit into a deal.
