cthe engine oil consumption

Featured Replies

Hi I have had a new engine fitted in my 2011 vrs and im told is the new modified cthe but keeps the orignal cave code. I have done just over 2000 miles since it was fitted and has used half a litre about 1000 miles ago and another 50 miles ago.just wonderingif anyone has this new engine and does it use oil but not as much? Or none at all? Also how long after it was fitted did it stop using oil as they said will use oil during the breaking period? Thanks

Welcome to the Forum.

I would expect to have to run in easily a new replacement engine and oil usage might be slightly high in the first few thousand miles just as with a new vehicle.

Did the Dealership give any advice on the matter, write up the Service Manual with the New Engines Installation Mileage or any such.

?Did they state that it was a CTHE engine they fitted?

Could you look at the ECU fitted on your car and see what type it is, a new CTHE type or the original type that came with the CAVE engine.

Do not overfill it.

?? Are you sure they filled the engine with the correct amount of oil,

Did you check it when you collected the car after the engine was fitted?

thanks for the welcome and the quick reply! i asked the dealership if i had to limit the revs when running it and and they said" let the gearbox change when it wants but dont thrash it.But i rarely let it go over 3K revs. I quired what engine was fitted with phil at skoda UK recently and he assured me it the new model with all the relevent modifications to stop excess oil consumption. i didnt give them the service book when it was installed as they didnt ask for it! but they said they need to put a stamp in it .

TBH i dont know where the ECU is!

Could you please look at the ECU and see if it is new or not.?

It is on the Engine compartment Bulkhead on the Nearside.

Thats behind the battery & Air filter Box/Housing.

I would get the Service book written up so that in the Future anybody knows the Change date,

Oil & Filters, Spark Plugs etc since the engine service times are different from the car.

I Would Ask 'Skoda UK' to provide a Written and Signed Letter that there is a 'New Replacement Engine' fitted,

& its Manufactured Date.

A New Engine or re-conditioned engine.

That is for the DVLA/VOSA in case of questions in the future, for owners in the future.

i will have a look at ECU. i will speak to skoda uk next week! thanks

I also had a replacement engine fitted earlier this year for my 2011 vRS. I asked for the latest CTHE but SUK wouldn't agree to this. Most replacement engines will be factory-refurbished units with the latest mods (whatever these mods might be). Phil at SUK is very helpful but has very little technical knowledge. My ECU is still the original CAVE type.

I ran mine in quite aggressively and I really think that has helped. It hasn't used much oil over the first 3000 miles. You do need to work these engines once warm.

My dealer recorded that the engine had been changed in the back of my service book. The new engine will retain the old engine number.

the sticker says cave 7927 in the top right hand side.

My 2011 CAVE is getting changed tomorrow. Will ask what they are swapping it for and if I get a new ECU etc

I had my new engine last year and at first I thought all was good. 5000 miles on and 2 ltrs used more so just recently. I can see mine returning to its original oil burning status.

with regards to checking the oil george i didnt check the oil when the engine was changed. but i always check it cold as i always have done on my cars.

The thing is, does checking it cold give the same result as it tells you how to check it in the 'Skoda Fabia Owner Manual'.?

EDIT,

'I have Bumped 'sharkriders' Oil Post rather than link it, so that you can maybe see the posts on checking the oil.

Many check cold and get the same reading as when Hot and left to sit.

Personally i do no not.
