Where to get 7Jx17 Steel wheels from for Winter Tyres at sensible prices/

Featured Replies

Hello,

I think I have discovered a flaw in my plan...

My old yeti had a very good set of Goodyear Vector 4Seasons with about 6mm tread left. My new Yeti will come with standard summer tyres - fairly useless in the winter where I live, So, I thought, buy a set of part-worn or budget tyres for old Yeti and keep the 4Seasons for the new Yeti and swap them in the Winter.

Rather than keep swapping tyres to the standard alloys I thought just buy a set of steel wheels for them. Simples?

Can anyone recommend where I can get a set of 7Jx17 steel wheels from? Most of the discussions over winter tyres are for 16" wheels. Ooops. didn't think about that!

I suppose the alternative is to get another set of alloys but suspect this won't be cheap!

Thanks.

Simon

I think you'd struggle as 16" is usual and cheaper than 17"

Hi

I have just sold (hopefully) my set of 17" Dolomite alloys off my new Yeti ,2 weeks old and unmarked at not much more than you would pay for a set of new steels if the deal does not go through would you like me to contact you ? I will know tomorrow ( monday )if they are available or not.

Not too sure of your location as sat nav does not recognise it.

Skospares bloke is really helpful. Probably Octavia or Superb wheels will do the job....

Whats the wheel Size/ETP/PCD etc for a Yeti

Yes please. Alloys with Winter tyres on an L&K would be much more preferable.

I'm in South Derbyshire - DE12 ish.

Look at the second link in the first post of this thread I started in the tyre section:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/217746-vag-group-steel-and-alloy-wheel-part-numbers-and-specs/

It will help find alloy wheels on eBay or point towards which cars might have 17" steel spare wheels.

You won't easily find steel 17" wheels though. The only ones I know about off hand are for the VW T5 when they have engines with higher than 180hp. And they use a different stud arrangement so won't fit a Yeti. BUT some big Audis etc could have 17" steel wheels as spares. But as others have said in the long term 16" winter rubber is appreciably cheaper than 17" ones and far more plentiful.

Sorry Muckypaws sold to a bloke from Worcester this morning, just had a feeling he would not come up with the money but he nearly had my arm off.

Sorry to raise your hopes and I do hope you get fixed up.

As a matter of interest TP wrote a post about suitable rims and tyres which I found very helpful.

Also I should check with your insurance company about allowable rims and tyre sizes as mine have informed me they will only accept 205/55/16 94H/V for winter tyres which SUK recommend (I did phone them ) even though my Yeti came with 17" factory fitted as standard
