What tyres ? for what Rims. Alloys.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Skoda Fabia 2003 1.4 Elegance 100bhp Petrol Car.

It currently has 185/60R14 82H Tyres on all 4, when i search online it says the cars tyres are 165.

Is my car okay with the 185s?

I have no idea how any of this works but maybe you guys can help please?

Basically I want to get some alloys wheels and i find some that have 195 size tyres etc, the ones i have now look too small so i was advise to get low profile tyres.

Please advise of what i can do to get bigger alloys to fit my car without ruining anything. As in which ones to buy to fit my car.

Thanks in advance :)

depends what size alloys you wanted. If you went 17s for example, which were 7j you could use 195/40/17 tyres

what you mean 7j ? .. so 17 alloys will work with 195/40/17 on my car which currently has 185/60

7j is the width of wheel. Which would be 7 inches.

Have a look at rimstyle.com and searching for the Fabia. Should give you a nice choice.

Hey thanks for your help, i've found some 205-55R16 wheels with rims - rimstyle has only these two for 16's: 205 - 45 - 16, 195 - 45 - 16 ... my question is will the 205-55-R16 be alright for my skoda fabia? Thanks

Don't think so, you'll need 205/45/16

aah :(

205/55/16 is a much more common size and is used on many many 16" wheels across plenty of manufactureres (Golf use them as standard but so do Peugeots)

The standard 16" tyre for a Fabia, as the factory fit on the VRS, is 205/45/16

If you google "tyre size calculator" the tools it brings up will do all the relevant math for you.

You need to keep the rolling radius (the outsiode of the tyre and wheel combo) as close to the same as possible to avoid screwing up your speedo/mile-ometer readings.

You have the right size tyres fitted, I wouldn't go bigger than 16" if I were you, and since you have a petrol I would use 195/45/16 since that'll give you a circumference very close to the size you have now, 205/45/16 as fitted to the standard VRS alloys increases that circumference and gears the car up which isn't good on a low torque petrol engine like ours.

So 17 won't be okay?

aarg, just found some 17s that will fit i think they are - 205/40/17 - but now i see that the stud diameter is 100, and offset is et40, will that be an issue? does the diameter and offset matter..

or can i just get any 17s that are 205-40-17 with 5 studs to fit my car? this isamission!

i'm using 205/55/16 at the moment, much better ride but does tend to when cornering kick the back end out which at first is quite scary get used to it now and i had to remove the plastic arch covers because the nearside tyre was rubbing it and it does throw the speedo out a bit. can't wait to put 205/45/16 back on.

So they are

17"

5x100

205/40 tyres

Et40

If thats all true ^^ they will fit. With no problems ;)

They will indeed fit, however you may need to install a dialysis machine at home because your kidneys certainly won't be working properly after driving anywhere on 17's!

Lol,, ok so il stick with 16's - everybody agree that 205 - 45 - 16's are fine, safe and cool?

Nope, if you read what I said in my earliest reply I suggested you fit 195/45/16 because you have a low torque petrol engine that will be noticeably less nippy with the fatter VRS-sized rubber!

Ok lol - so 195/45/16 - Final answer?

Yep.

ok cool - one more thing, can i just buy these and chuck them straight on... some come with spacers n stuff, i'm not too technical so please advise - i'm looking on gumtree/eBay.

Will depend entirely on what wheels you end up buying

In theory though as long as you buy 5x100 PCD with an offset of around ET35-40 they should bolt straight on.

If it was me I'd stick with OEM wheels though something off a Leon/Ibiza/TT/Golf/Polo will make things much easier than trying to make sure you buy the right kind of aftermarket ones
