Mobile headache

Featured Replies

Had a phone call from Orange (EE) about up grading my phone as i have had mine for 2 years. At the moment i have a Motorola Atrix which isn't the best phone but it is ok.

I was given a choice of phones but i got it down to 3 phones, iphone 5, Galaxy S4 and the Nexus 4, all great phones and made it difficult to choose.

Went on to review websites, youtube and asked people on Facebook which gave me a headache.

In the end it came down to 2 phones, the iphone and Galaxy S4 and in the end i chose the iphone 5 as it had the better camera, faster on downloading and also the size difference between the two. The Galaxy is too big as it is like a small tablet and will have problems getting it into my poackets and the Iphone is just a tiny bit bigger than the phone i have now which is just right.

I hope i have made the right choice.

I am now going to sit down and have a beer after all that researching.

I'd have gone for the S4, but that's because I point blank refuse to buy anything Apple make :wonder:

I know what you mean as i don't buy Apple stuff but the size of phone what did it for me.

i had the same decision to make, i went for the galaxy s4. The galaxy has a better camera than the iphone 5 and better in every other department with regards to processor and memory. i would have gone for the iphone 5 but its hardware looks a little outdated compared to the latest smartphones. the only place i would say that the iphone wins is on build quality and feels a more premium product. my last 3 phones had been iphones and i also have an imac and 2 ipads so im not bashing apple as i use and enjoy them but they really have to bring something new to the table regarding phones.

I have the iPhone 5, had it for about a month now and I am very happy with, EE however is another matter, it would seem 4G is only in certain areas and not as Mr Bacon suggests. "Everything, Everywhere" not quite true, more like somethings, somewhere!

I can only hope it gets better. on a positive note there are some great features with EE, go to the website and register for the hot spots and also they do a voicemail thing where your mails are on your phone and you don't have to call to retrieve them.

Enjoy and like me hope it gets better

The iPhone 5 Makes good sense.

Texting is easier as the screen is narrower than the S4

If you eventually get an iMac, Macbook or iPad, the info on the iPhone will 'sync' across to the other device so all your data is kept fully up to date

Whatever app you download, is guaranteed to be safe for use, unlike Andriod apps on the s4.

You have made a wise choice.

First world problems, eh?

No idea what your post is pertaining to daiking.

Are you sure it was EE?

I've NEVER been contacted by Orange, T-mobile or EE about upgrading and neither has SWMBO or family members. But we have been contacted by firms claiming to be them as they get a load of commission for you renewing/upgrading your contract.

I concur, my contract was up last October, and despite being a customer since Orange started - no call offering me a juicy new contract and phone - so after more than 6 months of silence I ditched them and switched to Giff Gaff where I have a phone and a netbook as I dont like having to charge a phone every single day.

I knew my contract was up in a couple of months and rang them up and they told me i was due for an upgrade.

I'm in the same boat. I'm eligible for an upgrade at the beginning of July. I'm looking at the HTC One, Galaxy S4 or holding out for the release of the next nexus device. I'm surprised you didn't look at the HTC One it is a very capable handset.

My wife has a HTC and we don't like it.

yep- i have six months to go on my Orange contract. and keep getting calls from 01844398604 - supposedly an approved 3rd party but looking online they are just looking to get commission for tying you into another contract.

That number is now automatically blocked on ny phone.

From memory if orange call it'll show on your screen as 150 or the mobile version which iirc is 07973100150.

Any other number isn't orange. Tmobile is the 0845 number on their website.

Ring Orange up direct to see about phone upgrades as they will give you a better phone.

Got my iphone 5 yesterday and so far it's not bad once it is set up and it took me hours to type in all my contacts, just mucking around with apps now.

Not much help to now mate but you could import your Google contacts to yahoo. Then import the yahoo contacts to your iPhone. I had to do this for a work colleague once, it was a bit of a faff but so much easier than typing them in.

This whole "upgrade" thing is nothing more that a marketing scam. What they've done is get you to sign up for another mobile contract by making you feel like some high-end business traveller. I'll wager that there was nothing wrong with your old phone, and that you could have saved a good few quid by just grabbing a sim-only.

I mean no offence, and maybe you haven't signed up for anything, but mobile phone companies don't give things away. They certainly don't care about their customers, just their bottom line.

As long as what you pay monthly doesn't increase I don't think it matters. I have a galaxy s2 at the minute and I pay around £25 a month for a good bundle of minutes data and texts. I'm toying with the idea of Sim only rolling 30 day contract, but I am a tech head and I *want* a new handset. I know I don't need one but my contract has been around the same price for 11 years. Sure I could save around 10 quid a month (compared to giff gaff similar offer) which is £240 over 2 years. I'm happy to pay that for a new phone. It is less when you consider my phone is still worth around £100 used if I decided to sell it.

The upgrade scam works everywhere from cars to mobiles to computers to home furnishings to broadband. It all depends what you use your phone for.

My old phone which is a Motorola Atrix is pretty crap and looks very tatty so new phone needed really, i have been with the Orange network since 1993 and never had a problem with them.

I have had my iphone 6 days now and i do love it apart from the battery does not last as long as my old phone but i was told that before i got it.

Sounds like the "Macs don't get viruses" all over again, to me. It's more difficult to get malware on an iPhone, sure. It's also more difficult to get the apps that you want, and that your acquaintances have, because they haven't jumped through all of Apple's hoops yet.

Horses for courses, as with every single one of these threads there's no concensus, just a load of waffle (from both sides, I'm not just fingering Apple fans as it would appear from my selective quoting) and then the OP goes off and does what they want anyway :)

There are enough anti virus /malware apps for both os, and ios is attacked just as much just via targeted website and email attachment rather than apps.

As for texting, SwiftKey which isn't available on ios. Apple are developing their own as the next OMG you've never seen this before for ios7

Same with all modern smart phones, My iPhone 5 is charged to full daily, I do it at work so it costs me nothing. First thing I do when I arrive at work is plug the charger in.

Same here, plus any other electric devices which need charging (garmin GPS, bike lights, work mobile). Thinking about it I should get myself an electric car :giggle:
