Fuel consumption

Perhaps only loosely related to topic but my vRS TSI is returning 34-35mpg in normal use about town/commuting and I've got a pretty heavy foot. A weekend away where I was cruising on A/B roads at 60-70 and not using hard acceleration up to speed but overtaking using full power I returned 45.3 on comp and verified 44.6 when I filled over 385 miles (tank wasn't empty). I'm only doing around 9k a year in it so cost wise it's not justifiable running a diesel, it reinforces my argument tho, i'd sooner pay a small premium to have the enjoyment of a petrol engine, clean hands at the pumps and no fear of dpf issues!

  • Have you checked to see if an old coke bottle or tennis ball has rolled under the 'loud' pedal?

  • Apologies for a possibly daft question, but is your system definitely calculating MPG in imperial gallons rather than US gallons?!

  • A lot of diesel owners on here feel the 'need' to justify the mpg claims of the Diesel engine. In reality they get nowhere near the 60mpg daily figure but they won't tell you that. I drive a LOT of di

Not quite the same car but over 2.5 years mine has averaged 51.1 as shown in my signature. Not entered it yet but got 55.7 tonight filling up.

I drive 25 miles to work through Reading at rush hour so I think the return is good. I do tend to let the engine do the braking and look well ahead so I don't brake very often. That would be my only real tip.

I have the pd105 performs better at 65, above that and it just drops below 50mpg. Basingstoke to Portsmouth at 60mph got me nearly 60mpg. I wasn't in a hurry

Oooooo you are awful..... How's your cam chain tensioner LOL!

It's a 2012 MY so its all good thanks, none of the pre wk20 2010 for me!...however, If it starts to rattle it'll be getting changed out ASAP!

Quicker than my CR can get to 60 no doubt!

Anyway, re. maxidot accuracy, my last fill-to-fill (almost only town driving) was: 15.9 km/l on maxidot vs 13.7 km/l "real". That's over 15% "optimism"!

On the PD engines the Maxidot MPG accuracy is all over the place......mine was 9% ish optimistic, but I've seen lots of other reports of over optimism or under optimism to varying degrees.

I thought on the CR engines all this would be solved but apparently not!
