MPG Again!

Featured Replies

I am running a DTUK box and on setting 2.2 it really does seem to be giving good MPG when driven as Normal. Happily put it up against a TSI any day!. 3rd and 4th gear are just a joy.

As a comfortable well equipped family car thats also got a bit of sporting pretense as well as being extremely frugal I dont think theres much out there that'll beat it...also the fact the MK3 vRS CR is barely any quicker makes me even happier with my decision.

I put my TDI CR vRS on a dyno, and got 136kW/361Nm... Remind me again, what were the power figures for the Mk3? ;)

Only things that would affect power on at the time were cat back 3" exhaust (no difference cause DPF in the way anyway); APR Carbonio intake (no real benefit via butt-dyno); 98 duro torque arm insert (no power difference, but no more wheel hop out of corners! ;)); and some BP premium diesel.

I dunno about the UK stuff but the BP PD here really works... Apparently. :p

With 100 miles solo and 60 miles towing a large caravan the Scouts display is showing 46mpg which I know is 11% optimistic.

Really pleased. The engine just seems to be loosening up at 17k. Would love to take the dpf off and a stage 1 remap tho

I did 240 miles the other day on a clear motorway at 70mph and the computer said 68mpg. Admittedly it is a 1.9TDi 105h but still very good. When I filled up last night I'd done 707 miles exactly since filling up last and had about 40 miles range left. Calculating the real consumption for the tank came out at an average of 60.1mpg. I love my Ocy!

Carried out a totally unscientific experiment tonight in the Blackline to see what kind of average mpg could be achieved.

Run 1 - me and dog only in the car and drove like a grandad up local motorway 25 miles, average 56mpg

Run 2 - return journey , family of five plus dog, used the 170bhp, average 50mpg

Conclusion - it would appear that when fully loaded up and making good progress the mpg penalty doesn't appear to be severe (10%-ish).

In my old petrol 1.8 Polo GTI you could lose up to 20% fuel economy with a heavy right foot.

As others have said this is the best all round family car right now and really pleased with it. I only do 6,000 miles a year and don't see the problem in having a diesel - as others have said the initial higher purchase price compare to the petrol variant was off set by leather seats, maxi dot, DAB, sat nav, rear sensors...

I average about 38mpg from my tsi which is mostly mixed driving of town and country roads (no motorways) which I think is excellent given the performance (remapped as well). If I sit at 70 on motorway it will easily achieve over 40mpg. My last 3 cars were all diesel and I originally intended buying a vrs diesel as I do about 20k miles per year. I bought second hand and the equivalent diesel would have been about 2.5k more plus longterm more maintenance ie cambelt change, likely to have to dmf at some point as I will keep it for 5years. Also got a good spec on my tsi - maxidot, acoustic park, xenons (which was a must have and can't spec on a blackline), proper spare wheel, bluetooth. Bought it with 20k miles on it year and a half old for 13k which I think was good value given list was about 22k with the options.

I was a bit surprised with this when I got home:

Wow.

The best I've had (after a 120km trip, though!) was average 3.7L/100!

(about 76.3MPG UK)

What is the "A" in the top right corner?

What is the "A" in the top right corner?

That's the automatic stop-start symbol that comes on when it has stopped automatically. Wasn't so good today only 65mpg ish.

I know it's been discussed before but here goes again! Just ran my Blackline from Cupar to Doncaster (270) miles sat at 70mph most of the way , gave me a return of 57.6mpg. I thought that was pretty good.

Well that,s kinda spookey as Ive been toManchester and back today and got the same MPG. Filled up at the garage on the way back and got 51.6 brim to brim. Very impressed given the performance available too.

Can't argue with the Blackline for performance and value for money. I can achieve mid 50's mpg steady driving according to the computer but overall tank to tank according to Fuelly it's currently 45mpg. That's mostly shortish journeys and giving it plenty of teddy so can't complain at all.

Best car I've owned - fact.

My 4x4 returns 46mpg on average, more on a warm day or a long run. My best ever was a tank (measured fill to fill) of 53.5 computer was a bit more optimistic at 56.2. Hopefully the new oil might make a bit of difference ( yeah!)

Just got back from a week in France with me driving, and the manual calculation has come out at 56MPG both times. At one stage, we had done just over 400 miles with the fuel needle just on the halfway mark (I know it does fall a bit quick after that), and I would have loved to have seen what I could have done to a tankful, but we were returning the next day, and I had to top up for the 380 mile journey back to Calais, and the "Gazole" down in Colmar was around 1E30 per litre - £1.11 a litre!!!!

The mpg of my 1.9 tdi 105 improves as the mileage goes up. With 78k on the clock I'm averaging around 58-59 mpg (calculated brim to brim). Longer motorway runs will give 62-63. Shorter runs in the winter produce the worst consumption figures of c. 53mpg .

Compared to my previous car (Impreza STI with 325bhp), which averaged 23 to the gallon and I ran for 6½ years, the 35-38mpg I get from my Manual VRS is brill...... OK, handling is pants compared to the Scoob, but I'm living with it... don't do much motorway driving any more, so I'm happy with the VRS consumption and my wallet certainly is!

just travelled from Sheffield to leeds and managed to get 19mpgs must admit I was well chuffed with that lol

After filling up my blackline with normal supermarket diesel Igot this

That included some hard accelerations off of roundabouts (up to the speed limit and when safe to do so) and over taking a few cars on a single carrageway road. I was also stuck behind a lorry doing 40-50 mph for about 20 miles to get the range that high tho

The trip had been reset when I filled up
