MPG Again!

Featured Replies

I know it's been discussed before but here goes again! Just ran my Blackline from Cupar to Doncaster (270) miles sat at 70mph most of the way , gave me a return of 57.6mpg. I thought that was pretty good.

Well I ran mine from Dundee via Embra, A701 and M74/M6/M62/M1 to Chesterfield and got my usual smidge under 50mpg. Running at a true 76mph on motorways.

So yes an excellent mpg for you if a diesel- or impossibly excellent if it is a petrol!.

Dont care what anyone says about the 170 CR compared to the 200 TSi but theres no denying its a damn sight more frugal.

Last tank, lots of short journeys, been hammered for most of it and fuel light didnt come on until id done 415 miles, still 65 miles left in tank.

Got 40 on Friday going from Cumbernauld to Perth at 70ish in a TFSI.

Suspect the strong tailwind had a lot to do with it.

I am not to bothered about fuel consumption and am just enjoying the extra power the petrol version gives you and I bought my car new on the 1st of November 2012 and have only done 3500 miles, so this is the reason I am happy with around 35 mpg on average unless I go mad.

Did Manchester to Birmingham and back in my BL yesterday. Sat at 70mph on cruise control.

Returned 60.3mpg indicated.

Very impressed.

we did leeds to northampton yesterday 60 to 65 mph and its says 60.6 mpg

done it by tank to tank on previous runs and it worked out at 58.5 mpg

Having dpf removed soon and remap engine and dsg so it may even go up a few mpg

If I'm lucky (traffic lights not against me too much) I can drive the 8 mile round trip to the office in town and back again and get 42-44 mpg (according to Maxidot) from my 1.6 FSI.

I wouldn't get that in my diesel on that type of run!!

Like I say, if I'm lucky! If I'm not, it'll be closer to 38 mpg.

I'd take that on a town run in mine!!

Ooooo errrr. If I was only getting 35 I'd go mad too LOL. OJ though- I can undestand why you would want a petrol, just that for me it's just a bit too... well thirsty... Which ever way you cut the cake the CR is just a brilliant overall package for anyone wanting both power and comparative low running costs and in the Blackline it was a steal. Enjoy your tsi

I never undrstand why people buy high powerd cars and the insist in driving it like Miss Daisy to achive max MPG,

If you are really that bothered buy a Prius,

Enjoy the Vrs and stop worrying about the MPG

:-)

The TSi running super unleaded is simply a awesome car, :-)

Hi,

I do see why people would want the diesel version speed with good fuel economy but for me I don't see the point as I only do less than 6000 miles a year. I was going into town earlier today which was a 22 miles round trip from my home and the maxidot did show the average when I got home of 43mpg but this was only driving at 50 - 55 mph, I do achieve on average around 35 mpg but this is with some spirited overtaking and a little bit more right foot action but not that often as way to much traffic around where I live.

As I have said before I am not bothered about the fuel consumption but about the pleasure I get from driving my vrs and it puts a smile on my face every time I am out in it.

The only accurate MPG figures are those calculated manually.

Can't say I notice any difference when I've used super unleaded and mine is remapped. Even if it gave a few more bhp it would be hard to notice such a small gain.

I used to think the same, but after using super I would never put reg in again,

More responce & better pull,

IMHO its worth the extra few pence at the pump!

Sorry posted twice:-(

That REALLY is fine by me mate. Like I've already said I FULLY understand why guys (or gals!) want a tsi and all power to your elbow for those who drive one.

I bought my blackline because it was actually better value (i.e. £2ks worth of extras for £800 more than a stock TSi) and will be worth more on trade in. it is also cheaper to run. I wouldn't even begin to suggest that out of the 2 the tsi doesn't have better ultimate performance but the bl is quick enough for me in the real world and because it's so good on juice I can drive her as enthusiastically as I want without getting grief from SWMBO about how much fuel I'm buying. Spirited driving still sees me getting over 40mpg with ease, to get that in the tsi I'd have to drive like miss daisey which would defeat the point of having one-no thanks! Last year new registrations of the CR outnumbered the TSI by 2:1 so there's a lot more tight ar$es like me out there! Again enjoy your TSI. :-)

Glad someone wasnt fluffled up with the MPG figures.

do a brim to brim calculation, i;ve done two now in the new car mixed driving 400 miles of motorway then short town driving (thankfully no DPF :) ) and doing proper calculation we got an average 52mpg

100% with you there Littleade. Got fed up with the poor handling, brakes and average 31-32mpg I was getting out of our Fabia vRS estate; decided to look at Octavia vRS's. Having had no real luck finding a used one (being that the ones I found were going to cost me more on PCP than a new one) started looking into factory orders. I "did" initially have my heart set on a TSi; dealer did both TSi and CR DSG cars I wanted as calculations on paper and despite the fact the diesel was about 1800 more expensive, was going to be about 20 quid/month cheaper due to its comparatively astounding future values. Just as I was going to factory order one, was just at the time Skoda released another 100 Blackline estates, more kit (overall equivalent to 25.5k factory order, my ones stood at 24k) at base price cost. Ended up getting a DSG one in the colour I wanted (white, was going to spec black neptunes anyway) for considerably less a month than the CR factory order I nearly went for.

So glad I did it, even now I still think the car was astounding value for money and regardless of the vRS coming out still have a GFV on my finance of 8.9k after 3.5 years....it'll be worth a bit more than that Im sure if my 18 month old 15k Fabia netted me nearly 12k trade in. Blacklines I feel will always be that bit more desirable than a normal vRS anyway due to the fact that they'll almost always be better spec'd than a factory car (most used cars I looked at only had a trickle of options).

And as far as the drive goes....million times nicer than the Fabia, decent suspension, brakes, steering has weight and in real world with 170hp, a shed load of low down torque its barely slower and only returns less than 40mpg on a really short run when ragged.

As a comfortable well equipped family car thats also got a bit of sporting pretense as well as being extremely frugal I dont think theres much out there that'll beat it...also the fact the MK3 vRS CR is barely any quicker makes me even happier with my decision.

Actually the best car Ive ever owned full stop.

My light has not come on yet and I've done 720 miles on the current tankful.

I never undrstand why people buy high powerd cars and the insist in driving it like Miss Daisy to achive max MPG,

I drive single carriageway roads in a rural area. I'll cruise at 60mph most of the time but regularly I need to get past individual or convoys of the living dead doing 20-40 in a 60. The few passing places mean that it's important (to me) to be able to boot it past these people and get on my way.

The VRS diesel could do it too but I don't do the mileage to justify a derv. Hence the TFSI.

What I really want is a car with a schizophrenic engine. 3cyl 1.0 for cruising and a 5.0 V8 for overtaking.

53.5mpg over 110 miles, rarely over 70 mph with AC on for quite a bit of the journey. Thats the best yet and not bad for a car with only 4.8k on the clock, DSG and no stop start.
