Uhoh - Yellow lights and 'bong' noises...

Featured Replies

Started out on Friday with just a 'bong' noise and 'Engine Fault Workshop' error every hours driving or so.

Yesterday the exhaust management light was on solid and and 'Engine Fault Workshop' error every hours driving or so.

This AM the exhaust management light is on solid and and 'Engine Fault Workshop' warning occurs every couple of minutes and the glow plug light flicks on during that warning.

It seem the double dip recession has meant every garage is fully booked for days. :(

Limp mode hasn't been activated yet..

Anyone want to hazard a guess ?

EGR? Mine has a odd spell like this - EGR changed and fixed in 10 mins!!

Ooh I could have a look see if it's filthy. If not cleaned in ~40k I guess it could be caked eh ?

Easy enough to find ?

Depends how you drive, they clog up fairly easy!

Doesnt take long to pop off to be honest, easily replaced in 20 minutes and sorted - cleaning has a lot of positive feedback, though it always seems to return and at £40-60 a part, it might aswell be replaced if its bad!

Cant think of anything else, then again - I am new to diesels!:)

I just thought as I had the exact same symptons on my EGR! Do you not have a code reader?

No, not anymore sadly - but I'll take it to diagnostics read first.. This EGR is all fancy pants electric so I may leave it to local indy to swap.

Cheers!

Could be the common 'exhaust gas pressure sensor' for the DPF.

DPF faults don't always flag up the DPF light.

The EML (Engine Management Light), DPF light and glowplug light are used to signal various faults.

The only real way to know is to read the fault code.

Exactly the same problem after I filled up with fuel. Turned out the carbon canister was goosed.

Wow - first time I have even come across one of these... Is there anything that goes wrong with modern cars that isn't directly related to saving the environment ? How much fossil fuel do we burn replacing these parts every 5 minutes ?

Turned out to be Throttle Control Valve...

Expensive?

Just shy of 3 hundred including diagnostics and an attempt to clean / de-gunk before full replacement... so not the end of the world.
