James Gandolfini has died on holiday in Italy. He was only 51.

Big shame he was great in lots of film and TV and awesome as Tony Soprano.

The Sopranos was one of the few TV series I made a point of watching. I then bought every DVD and watched the whole lot again, over the last few years.

I found James Gandolfini eminently watchable as Tony Soprano and found it fascinating that he came to acting relatively late, having worked as a bartender etc.

He was certainly typecast as either a mobster +/- authority type figure (usually an amercian general), although showed his range with his portrayal of a conflicted / gay hitman in Gore Verbinski's The Mexican

I also very much enjoyed his all too brief appearance in "In the Loop" (the movie).

He will be missed!
