removing interior for a 1/4mile, worth it?

Featured Replies

So going to be doing a few sprints on next Saturday and I was just wondering if any of you 1/4 mile goers think that taking my rear seats and sub box out would make a noticable difference? Its my first time so I haven't got a time to go against but if others have done runs with and with out to compare did it make a noticable difference worth taking them out. If its like .1 then there is no point as you can do better by just having a good run. So any advice please fire away.

Depends on your intensions mate, just a laugh, to beat some one else, or to do best you can? If so every bit of weight you can save id do, spare wheel and tool kit, seats, junk from the boot, engine covers etc etc, done it a few times and gets addictive trust me ;)

Its worth removing the sub and upright bits of the seats. Upright bits of the seats weigh about 15kg on their own I think.

and if you want to go further a bit you can take off the front passenger seat. It is about 8-10 kg. Don't forget the spare wheel with the tools. Off course you need to keep with you the wheel nut key and fix a flat can.

Don't forget to take a ****e before you go!!

The ones in my Polo were nearer 20kg, so I'd expect the Fabia to be around the same!

I've got the rear seats and the spare wheel and bits out Joe, I can feel a difference

I want to do the best i can to have a decent time to compare for when i get a new clutch and the hybrid mapped in. For the sake of half hours work and about 30-40kg for the seats and sub i think i might aswell do it. I havnt got the spare and tools anyway. Cheers for the input guys.

Any tips on getting the best launch bearing in mind i have the standard clutch, dmf and no lsd.

I've launched mine once with the launch control it's got mapped in, set at 2.5k, it was dry, didn't spin up and had 2 budgets on the front... Took off :D

I know your car doesn't have the same interior as an SE, but this was the weights of mine when I stripped everything out and weighed it.

I stripped mine and fitted a couple of carbon seats, which did make it quicker for the quarter mile (by very little, around 0.1 seconds, but different days/conditions...).

Driver seat with height adjustment = 22kg.

Passenger seat, no height but 6 disc CD = 20kg.

60% rear back cushion = 15kg.

40% rear back cushion = 8kg.

60% rear base cushion = 4kg.

40% rear base cushion = 2kg.

Spare wheel = 17kg.

Tools in spare wheel = 3kg.

Parcel shelft = 1kg.

Total = 92kg.

I think I worked this out on a site, theoretically to make a difference if your not going to shed 60kg or more don't bother.

It takes me roughly 60 seconds to take the rear seats out now, even if it only makes a tiny difference must be worth it. Good luck and half fun!

half hour? back seats come out in about 2 minutes! :D

My sub aswell mind it will take abit to get my set up out the way its in there.

It seems you practice that a lot :p

Try and run with 1/4 of a tank of fuel or so. Carrying 30 litres of extra fuel equals another 30kg!

I don't practise. My back seats remain in the shed, along with all the seat belts / reels / fittings. :D

I would say don't bother IMO

Your time is more likely to be affected by how you launch, how you drive and how you change gear, etc.

The car can cope with the slight extra weight

To put this into some concept, my mate did 5 runs y/day in his motor, at no time did he break past around 150mph@1mile on his timed runs without a passenger at all.

Then we did a spectator ride past, with my extra weight in the car (at least 13.5 stones) he still got a 150mph on his first pass. Then he got slower after he turned off traction control etc! We put it back on and he was getting back to that kind of figure.

So that are factors that will cause you to lose time but most important of all is how you drive, not minor fluctuations to weight in the car.

Should the on button in the cubby be in or out for best results?
