After sale Bi-xenon mount

Recommended Posts

Bi-xenon is extremely expensive here in Denmark (like £2.200) , so I wondered if it is possible to buy original xenon lights somwhere and mount the bi-xenon myself.

Secondly, is it a plug-n-play installation or do I need totally new wiring ?

The law may be different in Denmark but xenon headlights must be accompanied by the automatic self-levelling system and headlight washers.

These are extremely difficult and cost prohibitive to retro-fit. Suspension sensors, new front bumper, larger washer bottle, CANBUS coding etc.

And this is all before you have even bought the actual headlights. Xenon headlights for the Octavia MkII are still expensive and they have been around since 2005. The brand new bi-xenon units for the MkIII with integrated LED DRL's will only be available to buy from a Skoda main dealer and are likely to be very expensive, especially after you have added the ignitors, ballasts and bulbs.

I'd imagine the wiring harness / connectors will be different too.

In comparison the factory order price you mention of £2,000+ will be a much cheaper alternative.

Yeah to retrofit OEM Bi-xenons, cornering and self levelling functions and washer system would cost an absolute fortune, unless you happened to come upon the parts cheap and were competent enough to so the retrofit yourself. If you want the suggest you spec them as comparably the factory option is cheap.

The headlight washers are only mandatory if the bi-xenons are above a certain wattage - Skoda's must be I guess. There are some cars out there with standard bi-xenons that don't have washers for that reason.

An Elegance without xenons still gets the headlight washers in the UK, is that not the same washer system?

I would think so Matt - but do Elegance models in other countries have headlight washers as standard?

In Norway ALL models have headlight washers as standard.

Instead of a Bi-xexon upgrade, have you considered a bulb upgrade like

http://www.ringautomotive.co.uk/uk/products/Cars/Bulbs/Performance+Bulbs/RW1277

I have used them and they are noticeable brighter, but I did have to angle the lights down a little as the on-coming traffic thought my main beam was on.

I had bi-xenons on my L&K and swore I would never drive a car again without them, however I could not justify the extra £1000 (and 3 month wait) even though I do a lot of driving.

so far I have only used light assist once, but for the roads I alwasy liked bi-xenon on, I actaully think Light assist will help me just as much.

I pick it mainly for the aestethics, I just love that bright white/blueish glow.

Secondly there's the safety and lastly the re-sell value.

You can get the "glow" by using tinted halogen bulbs.

Safety - well badly aligned and fitted HID's are a complete menace on the road - and such a high percentage of the after-market ones fitted are this way. So not exactly safe for any poor sod coming towards you.

As for re-sell - I'd ask for a discount if I found a car for sale that had after-market lights fitted as I'd want them out and things returning to original.

So definitely go for OEM's - cause all 3 of the above are negated :)

  • 10 months later...

Will it be that expensive?

The washer is already at the car - at least in the UK an the Nordic.

I guess that the engine for leveling the Xenon light is build into the light - as it is with the regular light

But the front and rear suspension bits so that the car knows if it is pointing up or down aren't

Having washers all the rest is easier.

But still will run you a good cost.

The main price would be the headlights.

What would it take to do it?

I've changed headlight to OE bi-xenon  and tried to adapting it without a malfunction.  I've bought adapter from 9 pin to 7 pin , and I failed to make the lighting stable and always when it work, it`s illuminate and then shut down for more than three time then works...is there any ideas for coding ...?
