Noisy climatronic with poor airflow

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had my new Superb Elegance Estate for a few weeks now (2nd hand, 12  months old 7k miles) and today has been the first fairly warm day when we've had to get the car cooled down.

There's a number of questions I have about the ventilation which I'd be keen to get a bit of feedback on before I set off for the dealership.

1) The airflow on auto mode out of the central air vents is really light. it was 23 degrees outside today, the car was hot, i set the temperature dials to 18 degrees and put it on high auto and while the air was cold it wasn't fast. Just didn't manage to cool the car down very well.

2) While doing #1 there was a really loud air rushing noise within the dashboard from behind the glovebox. Judging by the volume there was loads of air circulating but I couldn't feel it from any of the vents.

3) In an attempt to get more cold air, I switched off auto and switched the fan upto max and switched on the three direction buttons (feet, face and window) in this mode I got loads of cold air for about 20 seconds with no rushing air noise from behind the glovebox but then the noise started and the flow rate really dropped off. The recirculate button wan't switched on and I didn't touch any other buttons.

Cheers.

I'd be tempted to check if the pollen filter is blocked up.

My car had quite a loud ventilation system until I removed and cleaned the pollen filter, it was full of seeds etc,

cheers, I'll give that a shot.

I know the original post was a while back but did you end up solving this?  My 09 is doing exactly this and the pollen filter looks OK, any clues would be much appreciated.

Nah, with the colder weather since my OP it kinda went down the to-do list. Thinking about going to my local dealer to check out another superb, but then again I'm thinking about doing a lot of things on my to-do list.....paint garden fence, tidy garage, build a shed, fix sticky door handle...........

Has yours just started doing this or is it a new car? FYI I did go to the dealer and was told that all was OK with the climatronic

Only had the car a week so I'm not sure how long its been doing it. I can reset the flow by turning ac off and back on but it still goes back off again after a min or so. It seems to be something with the recirculation and I can't see how the car is designed to not output air when its been asked to max flow. Also tried the flap reset from another thread but that didn't change anything.

Still love the car though!

If I come across anything more I'll update.

Noticed the weirdest thing today, when I've got the blower on and I engage reverse, the recirculation kicks in and when I go back into first it reverts to normal again. The switch doesn't illuminate but the air is diverted behind the glove box and I get that rushing noise and reduced flow

I think that's the climatronic system preventing your own exhaust fumes from entering the cabin (which you are more likely to have happen when reversing).

HTH.

Can get mine to go full flow on one side without the recirculating nonsense by going to dual, turning temp on one side of car to max cold and turning the other side of the car temp up above the point where it induces the recirculation and turn that sides vents off.  Works on either side, helps a bit if its just you getting in to the hot car.

Got it regassed by dealer to rule that out and hopefully have some specialist knowledge applied at the same time.  Was not to be ...they just said they had no idea, the recirc thing was not normal as they couldn't get it to cool and they'd like a further £75 to read the codes please.  Going to try independent aircon specialist instead as dealer didnt inspire me with confidence that they had a real working knowledge of the system.
