Vrs TDI black line fuel economy

Featured Replies

I've just recently bought one of these. I'm a tad disappointed with the fuel economy at the minute. It doesn't seem much better than my old mk5 gti. I expected higher results. I'd be interested to know what other owners are getting. Will the mpg improve over time? Mines only done 6900 miles.

Really depends on type of journeys you do and how much stick you give it. Knocking round town on short journeys I get around 40. Best I've got on a trip is 53 on the maxi- mine seems to be about 2-3 mpg optomistic and my brim to brim figures are between 47 and 49 actual.

I have 13K on the clock since Oct and I can average anything between 52mpg-56mpg on a run based on the maxidot values. This heavily dependant on the traffic and road types.

I have just less than half a tank left and its showing 145 miles left. That can't be or right surely?

What do you guys get from a tank?

Well mine indicates 225 miles to just shy of half of a tank. It depends on how you drive. If I rag about then it returns about 40-45. On a run it averages around 50.

My CR returns about 40mpg on shop/school runs around our village. On motorway runs at 70mph it'll do about 50mpg. And it reads about 250 miles on half a tank.

My petrol vrs says 200 miles left on half a tank i think something fishy is goin on here.........

I get 37 knocking around doing short trips. just done a 330 mile round trip and averaged 45mpg @80mph so well happy with those figures! Maxidot said 51mpg so a little optimistic..

Well I haven't worked it out brim to brim manually but the Maxidot says we average 50mpg and I have had 62mpg on a long run which is great because I only get about 27mpg in my TFSi although I have managed 40mpg on a very long run to cornwall.

I tend to fill mine up when it first gets to the red zone. 45L yeserday 470 miles on the trip. Couple of runs out with the IAM observer so tended to use a gear more suited to control than economy mixed motoring the rest with a couple of spirited sessions thrown in

The maxidot computer works out the range against they way you drive...i.e litres left against average mpg and gives a range but if you boot it for a few miles it will drop the range dramatically.

When I fill my TDI to the brim, it initially says 600 miles plus but soon settles to around 540 miles.

I get approx 47 mpg as an average on a mixture of A & B roads and city driving.

I've never done a brim to brim calculation in my Blackline - but get about 540 ish miles before the orange light comes on - that's 500odd miles on the motorway, plus a bit of pottering round over the weekend.

Are you hammering the aircon? That might cost a few mpg

Thanks for the replies. Could be the initial hammering as I've only just got the car. I'll check again on a refill. I am using the air con a lot in this heat.

I can get about 38-40mpg from my petrol vrs at that speed......thought the diesel would be a lot better than that.

Now north of 40k in my CR170 and regularly getting in excess of 600 miles from a tank, if I take it into the red. On trip to Lancashire last weekend averaged 52mpg (actual) using A82, M74, M6. Interestingly, maxidot was showing 51mpg.

Sarge.

how are you working it out? I forgot to mention I had aircon on all the time for the 330 mile trip.. if I dropped to 70 mph the mpg on maxidot went up considerably..

I use fuelly to work out actual mileage. Google it.

That's good to know. How long have you had the car and did increase after a certain mileage?

Aircon makes no difference, especially on a diesel.  The compressor is running all the time regardless and it is climate which is a lot more efficient than normal AC.

that's funny, why does it have an AC button on the dashboard then? just curious as my old Audi didn't and that had proper climate control..

It would have had an econ button instead.  Opposite of the AC button now in that pushing it turned the AC off instead of on.

The AC button will engage the AC.  Don't know how it works but i have read on here many times that the compressor is always driven.

My own tests have shown it makes absolutely no difference and has been the same on my Bora and Polo prior to this which were both diesel with manual AC and climatronic manual AC.

Using the app Roadtrip i have averaged since new 38.5 mpg. Car now has 5200 miles on it. mixture of town and dual carriageway.

Mines is DSG also

My understanding of depressing the A/C button is it allows the chilled air into the cabin. So the compressor may be continuously running in the background whether the A/C button is depressed or not.

Work it out manually by filling tank to brim. Maxidot read 42mpg..and that was also with aircon on.
