Das Auto: The Germans, their cars and us,,,,,,,,,

Featured Replies

You actually prefer UK roads to those of Germany, Holland and France? You certainly have a quaint sense of humour! Lol!

?.....Germans started building crap cars,

Which ones?

Cant help thinking we should have similar union laws here. Might help turn around the country and have stopped the manufacturing and coal decline.

It would also require new managerial behaviour and a huge amount of trust between both parties. I think the 'us and them' culture in the UK is too far engrained into the British psyche for any meaningful change. It's the British way of life unfortunately.

To drive on daily, yes i enjoy British roads,  well British Countryside roads, even better Scottish roads, which work quite well in  Right Hand drive cars.

German roads are always available for holidays.

Which ones?

They said early beetles fell apart and broke down more than they ran.

I think they said it took until the late 50s before they turned things around.

Japanese had same issues in the 60s and 70s and also worked on sorting things out.

IIRC one of BL's main problems was that the individual comapnies insisted on using their own engines/ gearboxes/ switches etc etc rather than sharing across the board which further increased costs.
